mbking Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Do Insteon modules broadcast their status automatically when their state changes? I am not getting module status in my ISY-99i after installing an EZX10RF module to receive the X10 commands from my Palm Pads and control the Insteon modules linked to it. That setup works fine, but I don't see the status of these lights change in the console or on my MobiLinc app. I don't see any status information in the Event Log either. I can control the lights using the console controls and status is displayed correctly then, but any external control of the lights is not reflected as a status change in the ISY. I have recently installed version 3.3.10 of the software. I also can't come up with a good program to query the modules automatically. Querying the manually does give me the correct state. I'm a bit of a novice at understanding all the details here, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
LeeG Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Sounds like the EZX10RF was setup outside of the ISY. The ISY will not be aware of any of the Insteon traffic from the EZX10RF when done that way. Each X10 code has to be defined to the EZX10RF using the ISY facilities for adding X10 devices to the EZX10RF. Suggest the EZX10RF and the other devices that have been linked outside of the ISY be factory reset followed by a Restore Device to get each device link database in sync with the ISY. Then add the X10 codes to the EZX10RF. After that each EZX10RF node representing an X10 code can be added to an ISY Scene as a Controller.
mbking Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 Lee, Thanks for your help. You described what I did and I'll try your suggestions later tonight. I assume then that Insteon devices do not broadcast their status when their state changes. Thanks again. I'll post the results tomorrow.

Most insteon devices indeed send out a notification when the local state changes, but they are not 'broadcast' to all but rather to devices they are linked with.
LeeG Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 That is correct. A few devices will send a Group Broadcast message (which has no specific device destination) but most devices must be linked to a Responder before any Group Protocol message is issued including sending the initial Group Broadcast message. In the case of the EZX10RF the number of X10 nodes is not known when the device is added to the ISY. The X10 codes have to be defined after adding the device to the ISY so a new node can be created for each X10 code.
