Timmerd Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 I'm struggling with the program logic for the ISY and spend a lot of time with trial and error when it comes to more complex functions. Is there a software solution for the less technically inclined? I would prefer something that will download to the unit so the computer does not have to run all the time. When I was using x10 there was a program that fit this description. Alternately, is there a set of pre-written programs that could be copied that would satisfy most standard functions, like thermostat setbacks, lighting on, dim, off times, etc? I have looked through the forum and have not found a collection of these in one place. I am otherwise very happy with the ISY with Insteon, much more reliable than my previous system.
Vyrolan Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Is there a software solution for the less technically inclined? Not really...that's one of the weaknesses of the ISY. I would prefer something that will download to the unit so the computer does not have to run all the time. Your computer does not have to be on for the ISY to work...you only use the computer to program the ISY via the Admin Console...once you save changes and close the admin console, the computer is totally unnecessary. Alternately, is there a set of pre-written programs that could be copied that would satisfy most standard functions, like thermostat setbacks, lighting on, dim, off times, etc? I have looked through the forum and have not found a collection of these in one place. Not really...the programming of the ISY is very custom and not very reusable. Among other problems, there's no good way to export or import programs, so it's hard to really have a library of pre-written programs. It's again one of the weaknesses.
LeeG Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 trdoney Perhaps we can help with some of the Programming questions/problems you are having. Although an ISY Program can handle complex conditions and situations many things can be accomplished with the basic features. Once the basics are mastered then move to the more complex if needed. It is often useful to post the Program in question by right clicking the Program name and select Copy to Clipboard. The Program statements can be posted into a forum post along with a description of the question/problem. Lots of really helpful folks in the ISY community who are more than willing to help along with UDI tech support.
