  1. Thank you @Techman and @mmb and @kzboray. I appreciate the time and effort you devoted to helping me. I'll continue to try to repair existing PLMs, and then order a Polisy. I do have have one question. For the Polisy, do I need to add/order anything additional to communicate with z-Wave Plus devices, or is that built into?
  2. Thank you kzboray. The term PLM is used fairly commonly. I'm assuming that "PLM" really means just Smarthome/Insteon 2314S or are there other PLM that would work with Polisy and drive Insteon devices ? (Sorry again for such a basic question...)
  3. My apologies. I'm a ISY994 user with about 150 devices, simple routines, but to be honest up front and candid, I'm just not that smart. My apologies in advance for these questions. I've tried to read the many postings regarding ISY running on Polisy, but I need it dumb'ed down: Situation: My serial PLM on 994 has failed. I've tried to repair using spare USB daughter board approach, but without success. I'm want to know if I can invest in a Polisy, and run a virtual ISY (yes, I understand I will need to need to start from scratch) and if the virtual ISY is a viable option, is there a workaround the need for a serial PLM ? Does the Polisy need a PLM ? Can I use a USB version or some other approach. The lack of serial PLM replacement has basically shut my house down...(lesson learned) Thanks in advance. My end goal would be to be running the Polisy basically to replace the 994, and if it's available, run z-wave plus (if that's available on Polisy) Any directional guidance would be appreciated. Scott
  4. I burned one out by unscrewing a light bulb, while turned on (yes, my fault) which I believe broke in it's base and as it broke by twisting, the hot and neutral wrapped around each other, blowing breaker, but frying Insteon switch before breaker tripped. That was an expensive lesson. (I'm sure the failed dimmer can be repaired, any one got a recommendation or even a service to repair..I'm sure it's a cap or something simple)
  5. Thank you Mwester and rccoleman.....
  6. Hi...has anyone found a supplier of the KPL buttons now that SmartHouse will only sell them as part of their custom engraving offering ? ( I.e. they have the buttons, but don't want us to be able to bypass their custom engraving offerings...very bad supplier behavior ) ...or as alternative, has anyone had luck taking their button sets and polishing/sanding off the printed content so you can use as a blank set ? Thanks in advance..
  7. For anyone else monitoring this, I also disabled my ISY V3 skill in Alexa, deleted the routine, then re-enabled the V3 skill, and tested to make sure that it sees state changes on sensor ( it does, very consistently, ) and then I recreated the very simple routine to send notification upon closure of sensor. It still doesn't work. Based on garybixler's post, I did attempt to cycle the sensor many times, to see if it ever worked, but I have yet to get a single trigger of the routine. I've reviewed a ton of entries in the various Alexa forums, and their developers site, but haven't found anything that gives me any hint or corrective action.
  8. Hi bmercier, Thanks for replying. Yes, I've got Live Update on. I can see the state change within Alexa, i.e. if I go to the Alexa 'devices' screen on Amazon, and then toggle the sensor, I see the state change several seconds later. It just never seems to trigger the routine. I manually can trigger the routine to make sure it works (it's simple, say window is open etc).
  9. Hi...new user..I've read many posts prior to posting, but am still unable to get contact sensor to work with Alexa routine.... I'm using V3 of android app. I added sensor to ISY, and can see state changes. Works perfectly I exposed the sensor to Alexa as contact/sensor via portal I can see sensor in Alexa android app change state when I open/close the sensor I added routine to do something (say 'window is open') and checked it works, it does. I've waited a couple of hours, just in case something needs to propagate between various Alexa systems However, the routine never triggers when I toggle sensor. I'm embarrassed, but I can't figure this out. Any suggestion or hints ?
  10. Deidrich, So far, your cookbook is the best collection of information for ISY that I've found. Thank you! I recognize you want to control/maintain it updates, but is there anyway that I would pay you to print a copy....I'm 60 and old fashion and still live on hardcopy, especially when I'm working through tough issues. If not, I'll understand and still wanted to express my thanks for your time and effort you have put into this wonderful document... Scott
