I set up the ISY finder with both http 8080 and https 8443 ports. I have a single Polisy running ISY on Polisy. When starting the Admin Console, which one should I use? Do I need both? If so, why?
-
After learning how to use SSH, I issued the ifconfig and *none*of the ports had the address on the sticker. I performed a manual update to the sticker using the Tools>Sharpie process.

Z-Wave: The good, the bad, and the ugly.
bhihifi replied to IPapp's topic in Z-Wave - Series 300/500
@asbril My switches were installed prior to Policy. Not keen to remove them. The portable box is an excellent idea; I used one when starting fresh in a new location. Is Update Neighbors the same as Synchronize Z-wave devices? Edit: Found the Wiki entry and these are separate. Do you know if the repeater for Ring will also repeat for ISY without associating it to the ISY? -

I plan to move Z-wave lighting devices off a Ring alarm hub to ISY on Polisy. I will keep my Ring keypads and sensors associated with the Ring Hub because I have a monitored alarm system. Is there a preferred sequence to add new Z-wave devices (closest to Polisy and then further away)? I use a Zooz USB dongle on the Polisy. Will the Z-wave repeater that comes with the Ring Hub still repeat Z-wave signals for ISY even if it stays associated with the Ring Hub? -
@CPrince, I'm a total newbie when it comes to ISY. I have a 2245-222 Hub that failed. I fixed the Hub by replacing C7, but I don't want to stick with an unreliable system. I also use a Z-wave hub for both security and Z-wave lighting. I'm going all in on ISY on Policy because: 1. I like the idea of having all lighting devices on one platform to make scenes and programs combining Insteon and Z-wave devices. 2. Insteon has redundancy because each device stores its own links. So your Insteon scenes will still work with physical button/switch presses even if your controller is disconnected (like when the Hub fails). So I don't need redundancy at the controller level to have the system work. 3. Scenes and programs remain local, so, in theory, even if I temporarily lose an Internet connection, devices can still be controlled. I don't believe the Hub works without an Internet connection. 4. Alexa works well with the Portal and the UD mobile app for devices and scenes. I've read that Alexa can used for interacting with programs though I have not yet progressed to this. I'll try to do all the control at ISY and use Alexa as a human interface device, without it doing automation. I will use the rooms concept in Alexa unless someone can point out an alternative. Alexa rooms allow me to include Echo devices and other things that I don't need to control with ISY. 5. Support for ISY is robust, thanks to this community. Insteon support is now e-mail only, and I'm not sure they have the A-team doing it. If you decide to migrate from the Hub, I suggest you e-mail support@smarthome.com and request a list of devices connected to the Hub. You'll need to give them your user ID and a picture of the Hub with label. This will speed up your task as you have all of the Insteon IDs and your existing labels. They send you an Excel spreadsheet which makes adding devices to ISY by ID easy. This way you don't have to remove switchplates to get ID's. Or you can get them one-by-one using the Insteon app.

@MrBill, I bought the Polisy Pro and it is included in IoP. I see the buttons though I have yet to use them.

Thank you. It seems I have the Pro version since I’m using a Polisy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

After trying the method above, I learned about replacing PLMs. https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:File_Menu#Replace_Modem_.28PLM.29 This method is easier because it is not necessary to delete devices. It works like a Find and Replace. Just make sure to do a Files>Backup ISY before shutting down, and a Files>Restore ISY before doing a Files>Restore Modem. You do not want to Files>Remove Modem because this removes the old modem's links and then Restore Modem will not know what links to replace. I was also able to replace a 2513S with a USB 2448A7 Insteon dongle. All devices previously linked to a serial PLM were rewritten to link to the 2448A7. This means that one could migrate from a serial or USB PLM to the USB dongle easily.

Seems that this process works to test PLMs. Good to know that now before I add a bunch of devices and have to replace a PLM.

I just set up a new Polisy with the Insteon USB dongle, and added one Insteon Lamplinc to it. I haven't added more devices until I decide how to organize things. Right now I'm still learning about the ISY world. I have both a 2413S and a 2413U that I have never used. I want to verify that they both work in case I need them as spares. If I want to try using a PLM instead, will I have to delete the device, save, then power off the Polisy. remove the dongle, then connect the PLM, power on the Policy, then add the device again? Would I use the same procedure to try another PLM?

@JTsao Answering Q2) The two USB dongles just plug in and they work. I would not recommend plugging them in while the Polisy was powered up. My process: checked both Z-wave and Insteon configuration checkboxes, saved config, unplugged the Polisy power cable, installed the two USB dongles, plugged the Polisy power cable in. After the Polisy booted up, I could add both Z-wave and Insteon devices using both the UD Mobile app on iOS and also via the Administrative Console and then connect them to Alexa via the ISY Portal. I made sure both a dual-band Insteon device and a Z-wave device are both about 10 feet away; the dongles are in an interior closet so the signal has to pass through at least one interior wall. I ordered a USB cable extender as the two USB ports are too close. I'll power down the Polisy before connecting one of the dongles to the extension cable.

@Javi, devices added by UDM do show up in the Portal, and after enabling Alexa connectivity in the Portal, show up in Alexa. My issue stemmed from misunderstanding a support ticket which led me to think iOS had the feature.
-
If I add a device in iOS UD Mobile, Alexa does not discover it unless I enable it in the ISY Portal. However, the device does appear in the drop down in the Portal in the Connectivity>Amazon Echo screen. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

@JaviThanks for the quick reply. I interpret your second paragraph to mean that 1) UD Mobile has to be connected to the ISY Portal and 2) nodes (devices/scenes/programs) I want controlled by Alexa must be added in the ISY Portal using the Tools dropdown. Would you mind explaining "Configuration in ISY Portal will match the configuration in UD Mobile." Thanks.

@aseThank you! This seemed to work. However, still puzzled about the UUID difference.

Here is the screen shot from the portal. Portal Error.pdf

Started getting my new Polisy set up. The sticker on the bottom has an MAC address/UUID. However, looking at the DHCP map on my router shows a different MAC address. The last octet is not the same: 58 on the sticker, 88 associated with an IP address. Using the IP address corresponding to the MAC address ending in 88, I can add it to the launcher and start up the Admin Console. Admin console shows the UUID ending in 88. When I use the UUID ending in 88 portal and before trying to subscribe, a small error icon comes up next to the UUID saying it does not seem to be a valid UUID. What am I doing wrong here?

1. Find a friend with a Chamberlain GDO. 2. Unplug your WiFi router and disconnect it from your network. 3. Buy something your friend likes to consume. 4. Go to your friend’s house with router, hubs, door sensors, masking tape, and consumables. 5. Set up your router in your friend’s house. You can just plug into an Ethernet port. 6. Set up your hubs using your WiFi credentials and your friend’s GDO. Use masking tape to temporarily secure door sensors. 7. Toast success with consumable. 8. Unplug your stuff and go home. 9. Reconnect, and install your stuff at home. Hub should not care if it can’t control an absent GDO. The hubs need a strong WiFi signal, so you might want to use a cheap access point that you can set up as a unique wireless network anyway, and keep it near the hub. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

Unless you have numerous other MyQ products dependent on the MyQ hub, you may want to use Zwave or Insteon. You can probably get back what you paid for it if you sold it. -

I was going to edit and add that and you beat me to it. Add in a Z-wave low voltage relay switch, solder two wires to switch terminals in a remote, connect to the relay switch and you have a roll-your own GDO control. -

Alternatively, you could set up a wireless door sensor at the edge of the door for another system and use it instead of the MyQ. Insteon has a wired sensor/low voltage controller (IOLinc) that can be wired to a spare GDO transmitter for status and control of any GDO. MyQ is nice but you can replicate functionality with other products. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

You may want to ask Chamberlain or check their support forum. It may be possible to set up using a smartphone and skip the pairing step with the GDO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
