I can't figure out how to put it in the Scene. I created a Scene and the button is the Controller of the Scene but it isn't a Responder so when I change the Status of the Scene by other means (either the computer or my iPhone Mobilinc app, the KPL button's status doesn't change.
-
I have a six button KPL. One of the non-load buttons I use to Control a Scene that I call Outside Front. I use the Mobilinc iPhone app and when I turn on the Scene Outside Front from my iPhone, the KPL button does not respond. Is there a way to program my setup so the KPL button stays synchronized with the status of my Scene?

I viewed the UDReport and there was no reported activity just before I reset the PLM/ISY. There must have been some sort of loop.
-
I'm reconnected already. All I had to do was to restart the system. It seems there was ongoing activity because I recall seeing the Rx light on the ISY was lit when I first checked it. I suppose there was some loop of activity although I can't imagine what it would be. Is there a log file I can check?

I am using the 2412S PLM with my ISY 99i Pro Ir and today, I couldn't log into the Admin console so I went to the ISY first and checked the status lights. All was well. Then I decided to unplug the PLM for 10 seconds to reset the system and it was hot!!! I mean almost too hot to hold in my hand! Should I return it? What could be causing this?

This morning I found an inconsistency between my actual outside ip address (internet) and what was reported as my internet ip address by the ISY GUI interface. Does that even matter? My router had the correct ip address and I assume that's all that matters for remote connection to the ISY. Is there a way to have the ISY poll the ip address more often or was this just a glitch? BTW, the actual address was only off by a 0 at the end. IOW, the ISY reported address was xx.xxx.xxx.xx0 where the actual address was xx.xxx.xxx.xx

There should be: System, Emails/Notifications, (maybe)IR, Electricity, Climate

I would hang in there. This is one of the best interfaces I've seen. It allows so much flexability and yet so much simplicity.
-
From the computer interface, go to the Configuration tab and then look at the row of tabs just below the Configuration tab. You should see a Climate tab (to the far right of System tab)

. I came away with this same understanding. And I have the same situation as MarkJames. None of mine are consistently consistent because of multiple scenes with the same devices. I would look again at the rest of the statement: I got all of his statement. My problem may be caused by the six older Relays I have in my system since almost all of my "Cannot communicate" errors involve those switches or a Scene in which they are a member of. The other common errors in writing involve my one and only KPL which is so finicky that I just make sure to have the entire panel of Groups Off before I try to write to it. None of my Writing difficulties are much of a problem, I just have this drive to fully understand Insteon (the way I learned x-10 previously). Please forgive me if I seem to ask the same questions over and over, its just that I want to master the inner workings of Insteon.

Thank you Michel for your response. I can write to the device. I only have to make sure to have all the devices in the given scene synchronized to the same state. Then everything writes. Your answer makes sense. The ISY doesn't like inconsistencies. That was the answer I was looking for. Thanks again!

I think it is the 101 green arrow I see. I know which green arrow oberkc is referring to and that is not the one I am talking about. I have to check if there is any batch mode on. When I'm left with the green arrow (presumably with the 101), if I put all devices to the same state within the Scene that I am changing, I can right click and choose the Write to Device and it will write. If the Devices aren't all in the same state, the green arrow stays. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but I want to find out what it is! Thanks for your patience!

Michel, I have often wondered about ACK. Is it possible, either through programming or through firmware, to have the command repeated if no Acknoledgment is received in a certain timeframe?
-
First let me explain that I don't know how to write anything locally to a device, I started my system with the ISY 99i Pro and have used that since the beginning. When I say I can't write anything to a device, I mean the ISY can't write to a device. In my above simplified example, if the two Responder devices are not in the same state (one is on the other is off), when I make changes to the Scene (like adding a fourth device), the ISY GUI tries to write but leaves the green arrow like symbol meaning there is still something to write to the devices. Once I go to the devices and put them all in the same state (either all on or off), then the ISY writes no problem.
-
I fully understand everything posted here. My observation is that if there is a controller of a Scene and part of the Scene is on and part if off because of individual switch states, then I can't write anything to those devices until I make the Scene with the Controller true (either all on or off).
-
That makes sense. So if the ISY queries the Controller, it will say its Off (because it wasn't used to turn on the light), and should cause any errors? I'm trying to figure out why I have unusual behaviors in my system. Like I can't write to my KPL unless all the Scenes controlled by the entire KPL are true and that even means the individual devices controlled by the KPL have to be in complete synch with the status of the KPL.

Sorry if this has been covered before but I'm new and need to fully understand how the logic of the programming works. Let's say I have a Scene that contains three Devices. All Devices are SL dimmers. Two of the Devices have a load each which is unique to the Device (they each control a seperate light) and are Responders in the Scene. The third Device does not have a load and is the Controller of the Scene. If I turn one of the Responder Devices On while the other Responder Device is Off, it would seem that the Controller Device would not be either True or False. Where does that leave the Scene? If I were to Query the Controlling Device, what response would I expect? Would I be prone to getting "Cannot Communicate with" errors?
-
I already contacted them and I will be replacing the Relays. Is it common to get communication errors when all the Devices in a Scene are not synchronized?
-
The other thing I've noticed is that if the lights are not all synchronized, then I get alot of "Cannot Communicate" errors. Once I turn all the lights in the Scene off then on and they are all synchronized, I can query them all and they are again recognizable. And I only have issues with the Relays. There is one SwitchLinc Dimmer in the Scene (and I don't want to jinx it but...) it never gives me problems!

Ok, I ran the Then part of my porch light Program and only three of the four devices responded. The default. But after seeing the viewer data, I changed it to 300 sec. Hopefully that will eliminate alot of traffic. I think I am figuring out where my problems are. It seems that ONLY the SwitchLinc Relay v.2C is failing. I have four of them and three are always the problem area. Is that a known issue with that version or should I call Smarthome and see if they will replace them?

Rand, I did a little experiment from my office (I'm not at home). I opened the Event Viewer and then turned on each of the porch lights one at a time. The first two turned on fine with only one line of info (I'm guessing that's one hop). On the third light I saw this (this includes the first two lights): Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:14 AM : [ B BE D3 1] ST 255 Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:33 AM : [ B BB 7B 1] ST 255 Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:39 AM : [ 13 3E 67 1] ST 255 Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:40 AM : [MOD 2 2 1 11] 50000.000000 Weather - Wind Speed = 5 mph Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:40 AM : [MOD 2 2 1 13] 90000.000000 Weather - Wind Direction = S Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:40 AM : [MOD 2 2 1 18] 25000.000000 Weather - Light = 2.5 Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:40 AM : [MOD 2 2 1 19] 22000.000000 Weather - Light Rate = 2.2 And recieved an error message about not being able to communicate with the Device. Perhaps the porch lights somehow activiate the Climate module causing too much traffic?
-
I had no error messages during those tests. It seems the only problem area I have is with the Porch Lights. All of the lamps in my house are CFL (except for the low voltage lighting which I've disabled until I can get the high voltage network stable). I wonder if I linked the four Switchlinc's correctly. I found each device seperately and removed all links. Then I created a Scene where each of the four SwitchLinc's are Controllers. I want the four SwitchLinc's to act like a hardwired 5-way installation. Maybe I should have linked them independently of the ISY? I ask because when I turn one of the devices On with the software interface, it only turns on the one device (instead of all four). If I turn on one switch (at the Device), it turns on all four SwitchLinc's.
-
One other observation. When I am writing to the devices (including the KPL), it won't write unless I turn everything linked to the KPL off. Weird!!
-
BTW, the lights came on and off just fine!
