Back to normal here in NC. Alexa did some weird stuff and started collecting devices with the same name, so I'm going through and trying to simplify things. Probably some house keeping that needed to be done anyway. Everything with a Hue bulb now has an Insteon keypad between it and the supply.

It's just after midnight here on the east coast of the US. Went to turn off the lights using Alexa and it says the skill isn't enabled. Tried to enable the skill and it says something about the portal. Tried to log into the portal and I get a "HTTP 429 error". Google says that indicates I've made too many requests. The admin console says the portal is offline. Not sure what's going on. Any ideas?

Interestingly, the PG3x UI showed the device names updated. The IoX did not update. I uninstalled the plugin and redownloaded it. It's not showing up in IoX at all now. I'm gone for the week, so I'll have to play with it next week some more.

I'm moving Hue bulbs around after adding smart switches at certain locations. I changed the name of the bulbs in the Hue app, but I can't seem to get the Hue plugin to update the names. How do I do that? Query doesn't do anything.

Integrated smoke/CO detector system that won't break the bank?
armymutt replied to armymutt's topic in Coffee Shop
I can't figure out how to get Alexa integrated into ISY. I have Alexa using Insteon devices linked to ISY, but none of my Amazon devices are in ISY. Kind of a one way stream. -
We're about 2 years out from needing to replace our 10 smoke detectors. Last night everything went off at about 4AM. Darkness and confusion made it more fun. I'm trying to figure out what to get to integrate the system so that it will turn on the lights and maybe even tell me which detector triggered everything. Insteon Smoke Bridge seems to be out of stock/no longer produced. EBay has a few, but it's not looking good as a future method. I don't have the Z-wave module in my Polisy Pro. Not saying I can't add it, but the cost needs to be factored in.

I ended up deleting the scene and just using the Fanlinc light part as a device with Alexa. Seems to work. The switch won't be involved, but at least the desired effect is achieved.
-
Yes, the Fanlinc is capable of dimming and brightening the bulbs. I checked a variety of them with the UDM. The keypad is an on/off switch (2487S), so the command would have to go directly to the Fanlinc.
-
My goal is a dumb LED light controlled by the Fanlinc. The Alexa category is Light. When I use the mobile app and select the 10% scene, the light turns off. If I select it again, it goes to 10%. Here are the pics. The light was on at 100% when the screen capture occurred.

Until I decided to Insteon the bedroom while my wife is off traveling, our typical nighttime routine was her telling Alexa to turn the lights to 10% and the Hue bulbs in the ceiling fan would comply. This left the room light enough for me to come in and then turn off the lights when I went to bed. Now I have a keypad and fanlinc. Would like to pull out the Hue bulbs for use elsewhere. I set up a scene in ISY called "Lights 10%" where the action is to dim the light to 10% over 8.5 seconds. I then published this to Alexa via the portal as an Alexa device. When I issue the command, the lights turn off. So, where am I going wrong? I'm not a programmer, so this is all new to me.

I figured it out. First rule of Insteon installs is the instructions aren't exactly right. I had the red wire in the keypad connected to the load wire going to the fan. That would be correct if there wasn't a Fanlinc. Since the Fanlinc is in the system, the load wire gets tied in with the line wire. So, even with the switch passing electricity to the Fanlinc, the Fanlinc was apparently smart enough to not want to link up appropriately. I capped the red wire on the switch, connected the black load wire to the line wire bundle, and everything works beautifully. For those who need a video reference, I found one here:

I wired in a fanlinc and 6 button keypad for our master bedroom. Needless to say that getting this up and running is critical. It is wired in correctly as far as I can tell. The light and fan LEDs are lit. There is power going through the line side of the fan linc. Every time ISY says it can't determine the Insteon engine, even when I put in the device type.

Apparently marinating overnight seems to have done something. I left it in place and went to bed. Woke up this morning, opened the garage door to start working on it and the lights came on.
-
Installed the ToggleLinc. Not super ideal if I lose internet, but it works for now. EDIT: Spoke too soon. The switch controls all power to the fan. If I physically turn off the switch, the fan shuts off and doesn't restart.

I'm trying to add an Insteon Hidden Door Sensor (2845-222) to ISY via the admin console. I put in the address and device type. Screen tells me to push the set button until the green light flashes. I do that and start the linking. I get an error saying Cannot determine Insteon Engine. EDIT: Ok, moving it up closer to the PolISY and PLM got it added. However, it doesn't seem to be working in the program when installed at the garage door. I created a program so that when the sensor is activated - door open - it turns on the lights in the garage for 10 minutes then turns them off. At least that's what I hope I wrote. It worked in my office. Range problem? I put an Insteon Range Extender in the garage 5 feet from the door. Didn't seem to help. Couldn't add it to ISY. Other options for door sensors? Don't really want to move the PolISY and PLM.
-
Do you mean a PLM? I have one of those installed already.

We had a power outage today and the 6-button keypad that controls my office light/fan is dead. The fan has a Fanlinc installed. I don't have a spare keypad but I do have a toggleLinc switch. Can I use the switch to control the light and separate out the fan speeds in ISY, assign each one a name for Alexa and just use voice control to turn on the fan? That would be more desirable anyway than having to get up and hit the keypad. It's lazy, but that's what this stuff is for.

The last time I installed all my devices was when the Hub dropped. I can't remember what I did, but it seemed pretty simple to have Polisy scan the entire network and find everything. If I can't figure that out then can I install them by collecting the addresses and punching the data into the admin console? This is more desirable than pressing the link button on one, adding it to the system, then doing the next, etc so that they don't link together. I'm already having to shut the power off all over the place and pull switches out to get the addresses. I don't know why I didn't act on my thought to write down the addresses after installing the first 6.
-
That failed. Probably because that's no longer the admin login. I also noticed that any changes I make in the Configuration part aren't saved. I changed the IP data and it reverted back to DHCP and won't let me change it. It won't let me change the admin account. Maybe I need to factory reset it?
-
I had to reimage my Polisy. It's now at 5.8.3 I can access it via the admin console locally. It can't reach the portal. I have a static IP on an Amplify router. I set this up a couple of years ago and don't recall it being this difficult. Does the admin username and password on the Polisy need to be the same as the portal? I don't have a firewall on the router that I'm aware of. I don't think the modem does either. In any case, I haven't modified either of them. The Polisy has the same local IP as it had before the reimage. Ideas?
-
Thanks. I opened a ticket. Hopefully it's a pretty simple fix. I'm out of town frequently, so I don't have a lot of time to spend playing with the Polisy.
-
I was adding an Insteon device to my network and the mobile app wouldn't find it. I've tried to update the Polisy via the same app for a while and it never took. IoxX couldn't find it. I ended up using the portal to log in but couldn't make any changes. While looking through the menus I found an updater. Everything seemed to be going well until an hour passed and I still just had the first light solid and the third light blinking and an offline system. 3.5 hours later, I had the same condition so I pulled the plug to see if that would reset things. Just have the first light lit. Still offline.

Now ISY Finder isn't finding ISY
armymutt replied to armymutt's topic in New user? Having trouble? Start here
I did that as well as with an https. I ended up uninstalling Java, rebooting the computer and reinstalling it. That seems to be working right now. Hopefully that isn't the case every time. -
I closed the admin console. Reopened it and it isn't bring up my ISY. Rebooted the computer. No change. Rebooted the ISY via the portal. Heard it reboot. Still not coming up. I cleared the Java cache, reinstalled the launcher, no ISY. Tried adding it with the IP address. No ISY. I can ping it through the command prompt with no issues. It is still showing up as a device in my router. Polyglot 3 appears to be connected to it. It's showing v5.4.3. It is also showing two ISYs - one with the correct MAC address and one with all 0s except the last octet being 01. Polyglot 2 is saying it can see the ISY at the correct IP address but needs a username and password. I've put that in several times with no luck. That's a frustration in itself for another time. At this point, I'd just like to be able to get back into the admin console.

I'm trying to switch over to Polisy from Insteaon hub. I can't figure out how to add devices via the mobile app. It's a pain trying to run from the detached garage through the house, up the stairs in order to get the button on the device pushed and have the admin console searching without it timing out. Barring that, is there a way I can run the admin console on a Kindle Fire?
