  1. Yes - I have been using that URL from the notebook, I get the familiar web page with the java icon that begins to 'brew' but then stops giving me the bland x at the top left corner... It was working before the tech guy from Universal Devices (he was in Ontario, I forgot his name, sorry) helped me get the router to resornd to an outside request. It must have something to do with "reserving" the IP address. I'll look at it later. David
  2. oberkc - sorry, I deleted that part of my post. Could you edit your post. I guess Michel wanted me to email him the URL. Do you know how to reconnect a network PC that once worked. I was thinking of rebooting the ISY. I am not so savy with this stuff as I am thinking I should be. THanks David
  3. I also updated the Java on the laptop but still no connection between the laptop and the ISY (again same network that was working just before I updated the program to 2.7.12) As far as the dyndns issue, I was not clear - it is the actual router that will not support dyndns - that was per one of the tech guys at UD. So how do I get the laptop to connect again to the ISY? Thanks David
  4. Thanks I installed the access pints as described so I should not have a problem. I did leave the filterlinc on the computer and removed the boosterlinc. I may get one or two more filter lincs if things are not consistent, but so far so good. Brad77 - I never knew that, good info for this project. David
  5. Oberkc- Yes, I ran a cat5e cable in the crawl space to the ISY that sits on top of the armior that the TV is in and the PLM is on the same circuit though not on the same outlet. If I had been thinking I woud have put the PLM in the closet behind the TV which is on a different circuit, but such is hindsight. I have an access point in the room but a different circuit. the other access point is upstairs and I honestly do not know how to tell if my home has 2 phases let alone how to tell which phase is where... But the farthest in line relay does consistently respond to a remote link even when it is in the distant part of the home. SO I think I am O.K. Do you know how to tell about hte phases? IS it just by looking at the fuse box? In the past, I have had trouble with X10 despite a boosterlinc at the dryer and filter at the computer. Speaking of fiter - you mentioned using a filter on the stereo, I thought those filterlinc's degraded the Insteon signal? THanks for all the help David
  6. Thank guys for calling me back when you said you would and for letting me call you at the end of the day. The ISY is now responding to the IR codes from my old MX-700. yipee... I give up on the access from outside the network as my router is not compatible with static IP address unless I am to "rent" an IP from Quest... Still looking into other router options. So the desktop that was running when the update was done connects just fine to the ISY... however the laptop which was connecting wel for the past few days now can not... I thought to empty the Java cache which went well I think from the laptop. But still no connection. ANy suggestions? Thanks Now onto linking the I/O linc. David
  7. The efforts to get online is really to update the software so that I can load the default IR codes. I have version 2.7.0 and understand that the version 2.7.1+ has a button in the IR config window to make this easy. I like easy after this trial. I as yet can not update and I thought it had to do with the lack of internet connectivity/enablement... Perhapse there is another way. I just registered it tonight and that might have something to do with it. I am told updates occure automatically, but when it did not occur upon initial instilation, I clicked on the "upgrade my lighting" under Tools tab. Perhapse that is for something else. We shall see. David
  8. I have a 2wire 2700HG-D router. My ISY99ir is connected to it with a standard CAT5e cable and I am successful getting to the admin console from a wireless laptop on the network. I can access the advanced set up options for my 2wire (through Qwest, the ISP)... I have read through the portforward.com info as to how to forward 443 to my ISY but the screen shots are way off... But that did not stop me from making it up. I got to the firewall settings and found an "advanced port forwarding" tab and added the following: 'starting port' = 443; 'ending port' = 443; Protocol = TCP (UDP other option); Lan IP address = the IP address found in the ISY help|about menu. In fact everywhere I found an option to enable remote access I changed it to the affirmative. Still no go with the ISY's pull down offering to enable the internet... I rebooted too. Basically, I am not that savy with the network protocol stuff. What else is there to do? PS I am running windows7 on the desktop, but have XP on the laptop. Thank you for your help David
  9. The PLM is plugged into the same circuit as the TV, Stereo junk as it needed to be in visual range of the seating area (for the IR remote)... The computer is elswhere (different circuit). The computer does have an old filterlinc. Also, an old grey boosterlinc was installed when I did this linking but it has been removed. Should I removed the filterlinc? Although I do not use X10 I do have one X10 chime that I want to use - unless there is an insteon chime out there. THank you for the help. David

    link v scene

Another one from new owner... #1) I want to link my controllers to responsers within the ISY as instructed but I can not figure out how. Seems the only way is to make a scene - which I thought was for more complex multi responder set ups. I just want one button to one switch. Must I use a scene? #2) I have read a lot about setting a static IP address as I will not be able to access the ISY with the old address... Is it recommended to set a static IP address if you plan on using the mobilinc on an iTouch for control, and a wireless laptop for all the adjusting? That is, when will I notice, as an end user, the difficulty with addresses? Thanks agian, David
  11. O.K. Yes I have to enter the address and it starts with an 0 not an O. Hate those alphanumeric ambiguities. It's working now. David
  12. New owner of isy99ir, Have 2 remotelincs (2,3 years old I think). I use the link management pull down to get to link a remotelinc and it says to get remote lincs into set up mode... No problem. Light blinks. But I press the "O.K." on the message screen and there is no address listed in the next screen though it doen identify the product as a remote link in the line below. So the Isy is not picking up the signal? The remote link does control insteon items (in line switches) in the home so the access points work. I also typed in the address that I found in the battery compartment inthe address line but the Isy tells me it is not formatteed correctly... What am I missing. Sorry I am new and tried to find the answer in the forums but no one seems to have this porblem. The ISY linked up with the switchlinks and appliance lincs that I have. I am reluctant to add the Inline switches to the ISY (and thereby remove the links to the inline switches) because I control them with the remote links. I need to know that I can link the remotelincs to the ISY. Thank you for your instruction. David
