@Nikki, I wasn't responding directly to you. I am still a noob despite several years experience. I am willing to help when and where I can. However, after I read the last post I reacted. You got to understand when you got close to 7000 posts behind your name and are as well respected, as some members are in this community, that some will find it offensive to bring up words such as 'dump'-ing and 'alternate solution' in a pro insteon community. And even @LeeG, do I really care what HA tech you want to go with? No. Of course not! Do what is best for you. My issue is when the constructive becomes deconstructive. @Nikki, You came here looking for insteon advice and one of the most seasoned members here says I've dumped it. So really who is being unhelpful?

Folks I have a newer home (built 2007), larger (2500 sq ft) and have no insteon issues. Have I lost a few devices along the way? Yes. Has smart home replaced them? Yes. Has smart home replaced all of them? No. A switch can die. Deal with it. Have you ever upgraded a computer? Cause that's what a modern ha switch is, a mini pc. I can live with buying a replacement if needed, same as I can live with buying a new PC if it dies or gets outdated. So zwave, upb, zigbee, and the like are flawless? I think not. This is an ISY board and not an insteon board. Take it somewhere else. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Hi LeeG. You are correct. These switches and scenes will not be referenced by anything else in ISY. Thank you for the information. Makes sense now! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Is there a way to hide a device/scene from ISY and third party apps? I added some switches/scenes to ISY to program them, but now that they are programmed I don't need them in ISY anymore (they are slave and dummy switches or scenes I would never activate directly). I would create the scene manually outside ISY, but it is too complicated. I just want to take them out of ISY but still keep the programming. 'Remove device' took the programming off the switches. Thank you!

Using Keypadlinc for all lights off but then.... (Prm help!)

Nicely explained. I was struggling with this myself a time ago. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
+1 on the harmony. I got a cheap used one off ebay as well. It has a lot of codes that even the factory remote may not have, like specific power on and power off commands (instead of power toggle). Also used it to get xbox 360 remote codes so I could automate that without having to buy a xbox remote control. Those redeye units look nice. I am glad that it has a rest protocol. Price point is steep though, specially if you need a device in multiple rooms.

The emitter I was using was from my PC TV tuner kit. Outside of your itach and isy and network module you should be good to go. The rest is all programs and network resources. I did eventual get a USB uirt and automation software (Elve). After that I moved my resources and programs off isy to Elve. the Elve scenes can still be run via isy so I get that nice redundancy (able to accomplish same task using different methods). I wrote up an integration article here: http://codecoretechnologies.com/community/index.php?topic=998.msg5456.msg#5456 HOW TO: Run a Elve scene from ISY Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I currently do the same thing with a ip2ir unit and a kpl button. I love it. Fire on the kpl and TV goes on, stereo goes on, set TV input, set stereo input, set stereo level, and wake up dish receiver. I also got it hooked up with a ir receiver so that turning the TV on with the remote fires off the same scene and still turns the kpl button light on. Also works great to fire off the scene in mobilinc or setup a widget on droids. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

After hours of research and log review turns out my wife was messing with me. Consider her mobilinc privileges revoked! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Same issue. What does web mean in the log for control? Not loving the possessed home effect! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I switched out the outletlinc for a switchlinc. Works perfect now. I did have the filter installed incorrectly as BrianH suggested in the previous post. I was installing in a weatherproof enclosure and the space available made it impossible for me to install the filter between outlet and device and keep the enclosure lid closed. Pm me if you want to buy the filter off me. $15, shipping included . Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

My RCS is starting to die and was researching tstats as well . I read a lot of bad reviews on the insteon tstat that the thermostat has to be on to receive commands and that it times out quickly to preserve battery life. Does the insteon tstat play nice with elk? I have had no issue with my elk / RCS setup for 5 years now until this recent issue. If there is a reliability issue, or even a hint of it, I think I would go with something hardwired that elk supports. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Thanks for the reply Michael. I was just looking for my next HA project and thought to look into OpenADR. Any documentation for it? The wiki still mentions brultech. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Having trouble finding info on setting up OpenADR . Is there detailed info available anywhere? I am in CA and have PG&E. Is that compatible? All I could find on PGE website was something called green button. the green button website is garbage and doesn't work. You can create a login but nothing happens when try to use it. Purchased the upgrade today as well. Looking forward to future proofing my automation system! Great sale. Thanks guys at UDI. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Soon, I hope. I don't have anything zwave yet but I would look into it for locks. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I have a scene with two controllers: one a kpl button and the other a light. The cross link works as expected: turn on the light manually and the kpl button lights up. However if i turn the device on from the admin console or mobilinc the kpl button does not light up. Can this be done without a program? Thanks!

The wire-in filter improved lockup of the device, but reliability dropped - less than 50%. Going to return it. I will change to a regular outlet and wire it to a switchlinc relay and see what happens. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

That's a good idea to use an external logger if one is not available in isy. I will try this myself. Please let me know if you are successful and I will do the same. Thanks. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Are program status' logged or can they be? I am looking for something like a time stamp, the name of the program, and status (like 'running then'). Trying to troubleshoot a program... Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Filter arrived today. Didn't have time to do a lot of testing after the install (got the wire in module mentioned earlier). The outletlinc has not locked up since adding the filter. I still have spotty control when using my kpl button. I have flawless control (so far) from Mobilinc, but mobilinc not always showing the correct device status. Next step then is to manual link to a different kpl and see what happens. Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk 2

The plot thickens... the manual set button does not work after the unit locks up. What does that mean? I already replaced it once. Possibly a defective replacement? My filter arrives today so I will do more testing later. Thanks for all the great ideas. This community is awesome. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

This is odd that many are running fountain motors with no problem. My fountain is not really that big either. The outletlinc would just stop responding after a few commands. The only way to fix was to trip the breaker it was on. Then I'd get a few more commands in before it froze again. I thought it was defective so I exchanged it. The new one came and same thing... a few commands then it would lock up and need to be power toggled. That's when smart home tech said I needed a filter and here I am. Does gfci interfere with insteon signaling? Just wondering because the same circuit is controlled by a gfci receptacle. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
