    POE power?

Alas this idea isn't going to work for me, it turns out that 24W is beyond the power budget of a single switch port (UniFi US-8 60W). Oh well, thanks to all for the info! Bruce.

    POE power?

Thanks for the info! I was missing the specs on the input power for the eisy. If and when I try this, I’ll report results back. I just happen to be putting my eisy in a place with plenty of POE ports (need to double check which variant of POE) but not a lot of electrical outlets. It’s not a requirement for me but it’d make some things easier. Bruce.

    POE power?

Just curious, has anyone tried powering an eisy using a POE splitter? Bruce.
  4. Thanks to the participants in this thread! I recently learned of the various issues and concerns over Insteon as a technology and SmartHome as a business entity. (I am much less active in the Insteon / UDI communities than I used to be, so this was a bit of news to me.) Anyway. As a bit of future-proofing, I just purchased and installed a Z-Wave dongle into my ISY994i. So far so good, although I haven't acquired any Z-Wave devices for it to control. Couple of things I discovered when doing the install: When unscrewing the back plate, I discovered that the four standoffs in the main case, where the screws go into, were all split (presumably from over-tightening during from manufacturing?). I was extra-careful not to over-tighten when putting everything back together. Because my ISY994i doesn't get moved during normal operation, I figured it was OK to leave the screws a little loose to prevent any more damage to the standoffs. In the wiki page that documents the installation of the Z-Wave dongle (https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Z-Wave:_Ordering/Assembly_Instructions) the picture for the "Attach the Dongle to the ISY' expansion slot" step seems to show a different dongle...maybe it's the previous version of the dongle? This caused a little bit of confusion. Other than that, the installation process was pretty straightforward. Now need to go find a Z-Wave module or two test with. Happy holidays! Bruce.
  5. Aha, that did the trick...thanks so much for the idea! Bruce.
  6. Just stumbled on this thread after experiencing a very similar problem with a 2477D (v.45) and ISY-994i (software 5.0.16B). Throughout this switch's lifetime (months if not years) it has been totally silent on local button presses. This morning, I did a factory reset on the device. Still silent, as expected. Then I did "Restore Device" from the ISY-994i, and after the restore, I started getting a beep on every local button press. Controlling the switch remotely (i.e. from the ISY admin console or from a scene) remains silent. I've done the factory reset + restore device cycle several times now with identical results (no beep before restore device, beep on local button press after restore). The Options screen for this device shows "Program Lock", "LED on TX", and "No LED", all of which are unchecked. This particular device went through at least one factory reset + restore device cycle under older ISY-994i software (probably 4.7.3), and that didn't enable the beep on local button press. Any suggestions for easy things to try? (Swapping the switch is possible although something I'm not especially eager to do, since in this respect it was working great up until this morning.) Thanks, Bruce.
  7. As a former member of FreeBSD's release engineering team, you just made my day with that completely unexpected comment. ? Bruce.
  8. Brian, just wanted to say (along with many other people) thanks for your work on this set of programs and for making them available to the community. I can't report much yet because I just set them up for my deployment but so far so good. Best, Bruce.
  9. Me too, I'd buy it. Bruce.
  10. That's cool. Completely twisted, but cool. Bruce.

    Ipad alternative

Without making a judgement about the pricing of Mobilinc HD or any other iPhone OS app: It's probably possible to run the lower-priced Mobilinc Pro on your Ipad 2. It wouldn't take advantage of the larger screen real estate of the iPad 2 but it might serve your needs. You should probably seek out an authoritative answer to this though (i.e. post this question in the Mobilinc forum here, or see if someone who's done this will chime in). I have both Mobilinc Pro and AtHome on my iPhone and both work well, although note that their UIs are somewhat different; you may find yourself preferring one over the other. Bruce.
  12. My first post as a new ISY-99 user, thanks for making a great product better! I'm just curious about numbering of releases...the latest publically available firmware I see is 2.8.x, and now there's a 3.1.0 beta in the works? Did you skip 3.0 or did I just miss it? (If the latter, just thwap me with a cluestick.) Bruce.
