  1. I'm am electrical contractor and have worked on proprietary systems(LiteTouch, Lutron) and yes they are expensive and sometimes you have to hire their people to troubleshoot problems or program new hardware. You also have to buy the products from authorized resellers who know there's no competition and sell everything at list price. If you're comfortable with Insteon I'd say go for it. Even the expensive systems aren't bullet proof, I've spent days at a famous rappers house trying to fix problems, it got so bad his daughter didn't want to stay there because she thought it was haunted. Another drawback of proprietary system is you can't just override, or install a standard switch to make do till parts arrive.
  2. Now I'll have to sell my nest, I don't want google spying on me(kind of joking but not really)
  3. I backed a watch on kickstarter and today they announced integration with Bluetooth proximity profiles. I was wondering how this can/could be incorporated into an ISY? What devices would be needed and if it could be integrated into an app? Here's a link to the update- http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sec ... sts/718431
  4. I plan on putting the unit in this week, I'll take a look and what it has. It's been sitting in my basement next to the sump for a year.....I figured I better install it before irony takes place.....
  5. Thanks! I didn't think to search for a current monitoring switch. Appreciate the help!
  6. I was trying to come up with a way to monitor my sump pump secondary backup pump. I was thinking of installing something like this http://www.robotshop.com/en/10a-ac-current-sensor.html but am at a road block on how to integrate it. Maybe a I/O linc? I was also thinking of finding a DC one to monitor if the battery backup was running(in case of blown circuit). The syncrolinc won't work, as the plug that runs sump pump will have draw on it ,as it runs all the time.
  7. Tech- thanks for the link, I can already control it using MyQ, maybe I'll just get a door sensor. Big- not yet but am looking into a elk system
  8. First, I am a newbie so please give me a little leeway- I have a Chamberlain MyQ garage door system and was trying to think of a way to integrate it into my isy. I was thinking if there was a way to find out what the signals it sends to the cloud, the isy could monitor it with the resource monitor and then send me notifications. I know you can use Firefox to capture what is being sent but with the MyQ there is no internet address to use on the computer, it is all done by iPhone. Is there a way to capture wireless signals? My thinking was if it could be done then when I am using Mobilinc's geofence it could let me know if the garage is opened when I am away or if I forget to close it when leaving. I could then use the MyQ program to close it. Am I way off on this thinking?
  9. Thank you for the detailed post!! I just got my 2 sump pump sensors installed no problems, everything works!
  10. That worked. What I was trying to do was set up my Mobilink to work outside my house. For some reason it works fine when I use the IP address listed on my router and the 33443 port When I use myname.asuscomm.com:33443 it locks up. I then read somewhere to use myname.asuscomm.com:3343/admin, that kind of works but locks up halfway through its update. thank you for the reply!
  11. I know this might be a dumb question but I just cant figure it out- Im using Asus dns service. They give me an address to use but no ip. How do I use the address? myname.asuscomm.com? I forwarded 33443 in my router no problem and assigned my ISY a static ip.
