I'm looking at adding whole house surge protection. Will this cause issues with insteon communication?

Not for the ethernet adapter

I have this problem with my ELK-M1XEP! I've been out of town for two weeks and there was a power outage last week that caused my router to hang. I hade my neighbor go over and reboot the router. All of the network devices came back except for the ELK and a Foscam. I ordered the web switch for the router and I plan to put the ELK on an appliancelinc.

I've ordered one of these. http://www.amazon.com/MSNSwitch-Internet-IP-Enabled-Remote-Interface/dp/B00K36JLL0/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1406067933&sr=1-1

Is there a way to have the ISY monitor the internet connection and if there is no connection, reboot the router? Every once in a while something happens that causes the router to lose connection an a reboot fixes it. This is for a vacation home so if the connection is lost, I have to wait until I'm there next to fix it.

I just installed Homeseer on a tiny ECS Liva Windows 8.1 computer. With the Sonos plugin, it seems to be working great for TTS. It's going to take a while before I connect it to the ISY while I test everything out but so far, so good.

Yipes! I guess it's not as straight forward to add voice announcements to ISY as I was hoping. In the early 90's I used Homeseer and it was so easy to do announcements. I have a tiny windows computer that I'm trying to get something working for voice through Sonos but so far everything is a bit complicated (or I'm slow, impatient, or both!)

Is there a way to have the ISY switch the Sonos to line-in and then back to the original source to begin playing music again? Ow about group all the speakers together?
-
I don't mind running one of these since they're tiny and solid state. If I understand correctly, the sonos control and tts would run on the Raspberry Pi and ISY would use network resources to send commands to it? How is the TTS? Is it as natural sounding as Google TTS?

Can you provide a walk through on how you do this? I've installed Eventghost and the Sonos plugin. I haven't integrated ISY into this yet as I would like to get things working through just Eventghost before I start messing with ISY in the mix. I can get EG to pause and play if I already have it playing from the Sonos app but I don't see how to make it play something specific.

I would like to be able to do voice alerts through my sonos system that's triggered by ISY events. Does anyone know a way to do this? Would I need to get a homeseer setup and connect it to the ISY?

Great! Can you give us any details? What advantage will your PLM have over the Insteon PLM?
-
I've read rumors about a PLM developed by UD. I'm sure the company doesn't talk about rumors but I would love to hear some details if there are any. So, how about it?

There seems to be a lot of info on tracking energy usage but most of it is above my head. I'm hoping someone can point me down the right path. I would like to monitor my whole house energy consumption. I don't need anything broken down on a circuit level just whole house. I would like the ISY to notify me when usage is out of the norm (based on comparisons to averages, etc). I would also like to view real time and period based consumption in Mobilinc. I don't have Ethernet near my service panel but there is wifi in the house. What's the easiest way to get this going?

Ahhh, thank you all for helping me understand this! It sounds like I would be better off setting a bunch of my programs up as scenes. In addition to the party scene, I have some like a goodnight program that pauses then sends individual off commands to everything except the outside lights. I also have a program that turns all the ceiling fans on or off depending on variables. These sound like they would be better off as scenes. The party program had to have delays programmed between on/off commands because every once in a while, a light wouldn't get set properly because of there being so many commands being sent (I think that was the problem anyway). I also have a vacation program that turns various lights on and off for random periods of time to make the house looked like someone is home. That seems like a program is still best for that situation. Right?
-
I'm looking for a push in the right direction on when to use a scene and when to use a program. As an example, I have a program called "Party" that sets about 15 lights to various dim levels. Is this something that is better done in a scene? Would a scene cut down on the communication traffic somehow? What would the advantages be using a scene vs. a program? Thanks!

Are there any issues with supplying power to the relay for an extended period of time? Also, how do I set the iolinc up in ISY? Does it need to be continuous? Will there always be 12v going to the WSV? The plumber is planning to install the WSV2 outside in a sprinkler control box. Any issues with this?
-
I would like to use insteon to trigger a 12v 198mA strobe light. I know I can do it with a 12 wall wart but I'm hoping to do it directly from a insteon device. Are there any devices from insteon that directly outputs 12v?

It's happening to 6 sensors and only began after the reboot.
-
I'm running them exactly they way it's set up in this topic. The problems began after a reboot.

When I run the startup program, all the variable 2 programs begin running "then" and set the state variables to 1. The problem is that after 25 hours they all set to 2 and the variable control 2 programs stop running. I've verifies that all the heartbeat sensors are showing as on. Once I rerun the "then" in the startup program, everything goes back to normal for the next 25 hours. What am I missing?

I have about 30 insteon devices in my house and with the exception of 3-way switches, Lamplincs, and to keep keypadlinc button's in sync, most everything is controlled with programs. This includes an all off program, motion, and away mode light activities. I just put together a program to put the house in "party mode" The program sets the dim level of about 15 devices. To me it seemed easiest to use a program for this but I haven't really used scenes for anything. I wanted to check to see if it's better to use scenes for this kind of thing or if programs are fine.
