Z-Wave Ceiling Fan Controler?
Can someone tell me if either of these (Homeseer or GE) are compatible with higher end ceiling fans that come with a remote control? I have been using Insteon FanLincs and they aren't very good. One failed, and the others don't seem well matched to the fan as far as the 3 speeds go. On one that failed, I just wired in a ceiling fan capacitor in-line to the wall switch (Insteon On-Off switch) and was able to dial in a good speed, effectively making this a 1 speed fan. My understanding is that these fans change speeds by changing capacitance values in-line to one side of the AC motor. Higher capacitance seems to make it go faster. So my concern is that these z-wave devices might be trying to control speed via voltage or some other means, so I am not 100% sure they would work. One specific fan model that I am referring to here is the Casablanca Piston ceiling fan. Thanks in advance for your help.

Z-Wave Ceiling Fan Controler?
To get multiple speeds in the ceiling fans compatible with FanLinc's, you would need something similar to the devices above, but with 2 or 3 AC rated relays that could be used in conjunction with a ceiling fan capacitor. I can't seem to find anything like that. The devices above could only switch a single inline capacitance = 1 speed. I suppose you could use 2 or 3 of the devices in parallel but that = $$$. (By the way, sometimes when a FanLinc fails, I replace it with a capacitor and configure it for a good speed - that is a low cost option that works well if you have separate light and fan wiring).

2845-222 Hidden Door Sensor - No Heartbeat but Reports Open Close
I placed a dual band on-off module within about 3-4 feet of the door sensor. There was already two dual band dimmer light switches nearby about the same distance and the wireless access point was within 10-15 feet as well. Never received a heartbeat. I even replaced the battery and performed a factory reset. In the meantime, the sensor continues to report closures and openings properly but 6 other heartbeat devices are reporting a heartbeat about 1X per day. Strange problem.

OK now I see what you mean I’ll give that a try when I get home thanks

2845-222 Hidden Door Sensor - No Heartbeat but Reports Open Close
Yes I have a lot of dual band equipment - range is not an issue - I started a series of programs to count when heartbeat on or offs are received and definitely no heartbeat in 5 days from the door sensor in question but it works fine for open and close

2845-222 Hidden Door Sensor - No Heartbeat but Reports Open Close
I have 3 2485-222 Hidden Door Sensors (V.45). All 3 correctly change when the door is open or closed, but one of them NEVER sends a heartbeat ON or OFF message. The other two send infrequent heartbeat messages. I have written a program to capture if the heartbeat is switched ON or OFF from all 3 hidden door sensors AND four 2852-222 leak detectors. All devices, except for the one hidden door sensor will either sent a heartbeat ON or OFF about 1x per day. I have factory reset the hidden door sensor, changed the battery, tried reprogramming the heartbeat interval, etc. and nothing seems to be able to make it send a heartbeat, but, it apparently works fine at reporting door opening and closures. Any advice on this?

Insteon Hub and ISY994i
I have had an ISY99 or ISY994i for years but have a question - can the Insteon Hub and the ISY co-exist? If so, would adding a hub offer any advantages? Improved GUI/phone app control? Thanks in advance for any replies

Fanlinc Speed modification
I haven't found a publicly available schematic for the fanlinc. If you know where one is, please let me know. The FCC only has internal photos and a test report which describes the fanlinc as a "inline dual load module". Motor hum does not exist on the slow and medium speeds. There is some kind of hum at high speed, but I am not sure if it is just associated with the motor running fast or the blades. I am going to order some capacitors and experiment.

Fanlinc Speed modification
Thanks for the replies. This evening I replaced another ceiling fan and installed a fanlinc that I modified based on components that I had readily available at work. In this case, I only had a single 1 uF 250V mylar capacitor (same as the two large caps in the fanlinc). I put it in parallel across the 8.25 uF to see what would happen. Effectively, I increased the larger cap to 9.25 uF. I am not sure, but compared to the same ceiling fan in another room with a stock fanlinc, there may be a very slight increase in the medium fan speed. It's difficult to compare because one is upstairs and one is downstairs. So, long story short, increasing the large cap by 1 uF is not enough to raise the medium speed to desired levels. At this point I will have to order some caps and experiment later. One issue is that I see that larger caps are not going to easily fit into the fanlinc enclosure.

Fanlinc Speed modification
Well I took apart 3 different brands of wireless fan controllers to compare to the Insteon FanLinc. I believe they all work by switching in different capacitors in series to the fan motor. All capacitors that I observed were rated for 250V. The fanlinc had two labelled 825K and 475K, which I believe correspond to 8.25 uF and 4.75 UF, The Casablanca controller had 3 caps, 10 uF, 5 uF, and 1.8 uF. The Minka Aire controller had 2 caps, 4 uF and 5 uF. The Home Depot one had a 5 uF and 6 uF cap. My current theory is that I should try replacing the 8.25 uF cap in the fanlinc with a 10 uF cap. I think that the Casablanca controller differs from the others in that the 1.8 uF cap may be used for the high speed, but the other controllers may not use any.

Fanlinc Speed modification
Has anyone successfully modified the medium and low speed settings on a fanlinc by changing the internal capacitors? I installed a couple of Casablanca fans that came with a 3 speed wireless controller - I used the fanlinc instead of the included controller. It works, but the problem is that the medium and low fan speeds are too slow - need to speed them up a bit. I have downloaded the internal pictures of the fanlinc and have found some discussion of this, but no specific details that could expedite a solution prior to me experimenting.

Multiple Programs Waiting on Motion Detector
This has probably been asked before; Can I have two or more different programs waiting for a motion detector to switch on? In other words, will both of them be able to execute properly? For example: Program 1: If Control 'StudyMD-Sensor' is switched on Then $studyMdOnCount += 1 Program 2: If Control 'StudyMd-Sensor' is switched on And Status 'Study Lt Switch' is Off Then Set Scene 'Study' On So in the cases above I want to make 100% sure that the variable would increment in program 1 AND that the lights would turn on every time if they were off in the study (Program 2). There is a specific reason that I don't want to get into why I would have two or more programs monitoring the motion detector. I just want to make sure that both programs get scheduled to run AND that they will both see the switched on condition. I don't want one running 1st, clearing the condition, then the 2nd not working. Also, in general, can this be done with any kind of sensor or switch? Thanks in advance for your help
