Bought and installed a Polisy. It died within minutes. UD sent parts to repair, repaired, died again within minutes. Removed it and returned it for a refund. Meantime, now none of my programs will run. I had done a backup prior to the Polisy install. Restored that backup and still programs won't run. Did the Polisy kill my ISY?

I'm running an ISY 944i / IR Pro unit that is at least 5 or 6 years old, probably more, at my house. I have hundreds of insteon devices that it is running. It's not always happy and I wonder if it's a bit overloaded. Meantime, I want to put some basic lighting control automation in one of my work buildings, at a different location. A dozen insteon devices at most. I thought now might be a good time to upgrade the house ISY and move the existing one from the house to the work building. So, what model should I be shopping for? 90% of what I'm controlling is lights, with a few relays and sensors added in for luck. Thanks!

Yes, I noticed the mistake and realized it was just that, but my point is, the "else" line should not be necessary at all. You could leave it blank. The else line is only for outside the specified hours, except outside those hours, the program is not active.
-
Turns out my test was moot, as it was most likely flawed by the same errant scene that was messing with Zerop's method also. Now that I have it working via Zerop's method, I'm not touching it, lest I break it again!
-
OK, this one showed promise, but does not work. Could be because of whatever you have in "dark outside" that I can't see. Thanks
-
Thanks mate. That works. I initially thought this did not work, but found an errant scene I'd placed the light in during all my messing around that was interfering with the program. The "else" line is unnecessary, as if you're outside the time period specified, the program is off anyway, so won't react. The switch setting under the device listing in the main screen should be set to how you want it to react outside the specified time period, eg, 100%, 0.1 ramp rate, etc. This is probably the default settings when first linked, but I'd messed the hell out of them during my attempts to solve this.

I'm willing to bet that it does work. I just can't make it work. Big difference...... It's confusing to me as to why there are three different device/scene settings that have to be made inside the adjust scene configuration. Not understanding the thought process behind it might be part of my issue, however I have tried every possible combination of those settings without luck. I am obviously missing something, probably simple.

I had not thought of using the off paddle to trigger a program, I've been trying to use the on paddle. I'll give it a shot tonight. Thanks

This won't work. It turns on the light as soon as you enter the time period specified, instead of adjusting the settings when the ligtht is turned on.. Plus, with V5, they eliminated the ability to adjust ramp rate. The only place I can find ramp rate is under "adjust scene" and there is no combination of settings within that, that I can get to work.

Heh. Of course I'm lost again. Got this working perfectly in V4 then upgraded to V5 and lost it all. For the life of me, I can't work it out in V5. Who's turn is it to come to my rescue?

I did not know that. Thanks for pointing that out before I spent a bunch of money on crap I can't use. Not going cloud under any circumstances, forgot to mention that in my initial post. As I also suck at programming anything, I'm gonna guess I'm stuck with the Insteon crap and will live in hope that they get their heads out of their asses and come up with a viable solution. Thanks for the response. You saved me a bunch of problems and cash.

Any affordable options out there? The Insteon thermostats are a sick joke. Looking for something that is at least compatible with mainstream thermostats. I have an ISY 944i/Z so can use Zigbee. I see some options out there but have yet to find any at a reasonable price. I need 15 of them, so price is a serious concern. Looking for folks who have something in operation who might be willing to answer some questions. I've looked at Sinope TH1400ZB. I can use these in 12 of the required locations, but they are heat only, so won't work in 3 other locations. Another option I've investigated somewhat is the ZEN zigbee unit. This does heat and cool but I cannot find information on whether the RC and RH circuits are independent. This is critical. Price is also an issue on these ones. Interested to hear what others are running.

Thanks. Downloading now. Wish me luck, lol

And how does one get V5? I searched the forum and found a beta V5.15 or something, but it said 5.09 was required to upgrade. Found nothing about getting 5.09....

Thanks to zerop who privately sent me some screen shots of how he did it. The hangup was trying to adjust a component with a scene, instead of the component by itself.

Thanks for the tips. I am running 4.7.3, so can't seem to do it purely through programming. I have set up a scene for 50% and 5 second ramp rate and a program to run that scene overnight. I'll report back on how it works.

I can't seem to work out how to do what I want here. I would like a light to come on slowly, and only to about 50% brightness, between certain hours. Rest of the time, come on full bright and fast. Basically trying to save this old man's eyes in the middle of the night. The light is controlled by an Insteon dimmer switch. I'm running an ISY 994i/Z Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

My apologies for some slight mis-information. I am running ISY Launcher, according to the desktop icon. It opens the same old box I have seen for years and the box is titled ISY Finder. Not sure if that changes things. It's really just a rant/moot point anyway. I have an Orbi router, so a simple check on the Orbi app tells me what the IP is for everything connected to it.
-
I am not.
-
Every time I manually enter it, I save it. But then next time the power goes out, the router issues a different IP to the ISY, and the "finder" is blank again. Basically, the finder doesn't actually do anything. If I've saved the IP in the "finder", then it is available for me every time I open the "finder". Until the ISY gets assigned a different IP, and then the "finder" is empty again. I will see what I can do in my router to set a static IP for it. Thanks
-
Thanks. I'll look into it. I do not have 4.7.3. That's another bug I have. I cannot get it to install.

This is an ongoing problem. I have been running ISY for 3 or 4 years and this has been an issue since day one. ISY Finder will never find anything unless I've already told it what IP to look for. I will have to look into the firewall possibility
-
Serious question. If I want to open the admin console, I have to use this ISY Finder thing. 20% of the time, it opens with no info in it. I then have to manually enter an IP address, complete with the http:// bullshit. If the IP has changed, I have to run through various guesses until it agrees that there is an ISY at that particular address. So why is it called a "Finder"? Wouldn't a "finder" scan the network and find the IP address of any ISY on it? Asking for a friend.

That's an interesting thought. In theory, the capacitor would see a larger surge on high speed startup, but the fan doesn't even have the chance to try. As soon as you hit the button on the switch, the LED turns red. A second push of the button and the fan starts up. This fan has so much torque that, from a dead stop, it twists the body of the fan assembly with an audible clunk before motion is transferred to the blades. A small amount of slack in the components, I assume. To me, it would draw a lot more power starting from a stop, than increasing from medium speed, and that is when the issue occurs.
