I second Teken's suggestion ... I have 2 UBIs sitting in their boxes just waiting for me to put them to good use

Wonder if something similar to what's beeing done for Homeseer could be implemented with the ISY And I know that there is a thread fairly similar here in regards to Homebridge and Siri integration. But in light of the new node.js that was just created for the ISY, in conjunction with Homebridge and possibly Polyglot (which I am not sure of it's capabilities) I wonder if something could be crafted to give us the next closest thing to HomeKit. If you want to see what users from the Homeseer forum are doing, Just read posts from user Stipus here: http://forums.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=177016&highlight=homebridge Thanks Bernie

Hi Folks, Hoping that someone can assist and possibly suggest what may be the issue. First let me give you some of the basics: FW: 4.2.27 UI: 4.2.16 Smoke Bridge: R3.2 Smoke Detectors (3): SC0501CN (bought at Lowes) I was able to interconnect all my smoke alarm without any issues. I think, but not positive that I was able to pair one of my alarms with the Smoke Bridge. But attempting to pair my Smoke Bridge with the ISY hasn't worked. I've done several factory resets of the Smoke Bridge and tried to pair either a different smoke alarm or at one point, I tried to pair them all. I've read this entire thread and tried to follow suggestions from the ones that had luck. I am not sure if my issue stems from unsuccessful pairing of the alarms to the bridge or if I have an older version of the bridge. One thing that I notice, is that my model number of my smokes is SC0501CN but I did see somewhere else that others have model# SCO501CN-3ST so I am wondering if the "3ST" makes a difference. These smokes all look alike, I thought for the the one at Lowes is what I needed. Any ideal on how to get me going with this? Thanks Bernie

Sorry to keep derailing the original thread, but I am also interested to learn more about iRule. - First which version do we need to buy? - Second, does it only work by going through the "cloud"? If so, this second part may be a deal killer for me.

Shannnong, This is exactly what I would like to accomplish with my ISY. I am still deep in my learning curve as I am a fairly new user of ISY. Seems like it's the perfect foundation for building a smart home. Any chance (if there is a way) that you can share your programs/routines?

That's good news, I had a similar request a little over a week ago. This is one of the feature that I liked about Homeseer, they would allow you to create virtual devices with unused X-10 house codes. Since X-10 has a possibility of House Code A to P and 1 to 16, the virtual devices had House Code Q to Z and 1 to 16

I hear ya, But in my opinion, a smart home should be just that. I've been putting around with home automation for a bunch of years and I've alway found that this feature ( Is a Holiday) and others like personal reminers of important dates (birthdays, anniversary, etc) is missing from every solution. I would agree with you that the pay off is small if I just wanted to get a reminder for garbage day, but in the grand scheme of things, I also want to incorporate the detection of a holiday with other events at the house. Like not sounding the alarm clock that morning, opening up the shades an hour later. I could even use a "Day.Before.Holiday" variable (if I could figure out how to do this) because I am more likely to stay up the night before a holiday to watch TV or a movie although I know that a simple "Good Night" program could take care of this.

Thanks oberkc, Seems like I am on the right path. As far as how to determine if the day is a holiday, although I haven't implemented it yet, I am looking at the following 2 solutions: http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i_Generic_Calendar_Using_Programs_and_Variables or http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/14096-one-more-date-variable-program/?hl=calendar&do=findComment&comment=117531

Wonder if someone can help me brainstorm this one, keep in mind that I am still in my learning curve period here. Last night, I setup a Pushover notification to remind me on Thursday morning to take the garbage out. But got thinking that what if Thursday is a holiday (like Thanksgiving or any other holiday that may fall on Thursday). At this time, I wouldn't want to receive the notification Thursday, but Friday instead. From what I am seeing, from different examples on the board, the ELSE statement is rarely used, not exactly sure why and if there is a reason. My first thought would be to set up a program as such: If Not a holiday and Thursday at 7:00 AM Then Send Pushover notification - "Take Garbage Out" Else Wait 24 hrs Send Pushover notification - "Take Garbage Out" Then got thinking that I am not sure that I want a wait time that long, what if the ISY gets rebooted in the meantime. So my second thought would be to create a variable called "Day.After.Holiday" (init-0 but could be passed a value from 1 to 7 depending on the day Ex. Friday would be 5) My first thought would be to set a program that would look something like this: If Not a holiday and Thursday at 7:00 AM or If time is 7:00 AM on Friday and Day.After.Holiday =5 Then Send Pushover notification - "Take Garbage Out" Else Set Day.Ater.Holiday = 5 First of all, would this work? Then this is where I get a brain cramp. I need to reset the variable, but not sure I want to do it there since it may be helpful for other programs not to run on a holiday, but the day after. So It should not be reset until 12:01AM the next day. With this being said, would I be better off not to set the Day.After.Holiday in this program, but create a program, (after clearing the variable, and after the one that sets my variable of Is.Holiday=1) that would run and add the appropriate value (in this case 5) to the Day.After.Holiday variable? What would be your best practice? Hope this wasn't too confusing.

Xathros, Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, very interesting thread as I am looking to implement something similar as well. I was not aware of the ISY proxy Will have to look into that ... do you use it for anything else?

I agree with your comments. I am not sure what's the big attraction with the external internet (cloud services) Must be for a newer generation than mine. I installe a Z-wave thermostat right now just to test the waters, but seems funny that with this whole Home Automation craze going on right now, that I feel it's still a struggle to find a thermostat that is a) reliable nice looking c) has direct interaction with the ISY and d) does not use cloud services. Also hard to find anything decent for something to control window treatments.

i was just wondering if anyone explored integrating Honeywell's Lyric thermostat with their setup? I am in need to replace one of my thermostats and I am liking the look and feel of this unit. I can't say that I've found an overall good solution for thermostats so far, I do like the look of the Nest, but don't want to be tied to Google.

So is there a way to put this logic into only one program or would you have to create 4 programs (one for each season) to turn your lights on? I would rather keep it to one single program if i could. An example would be appreciated if this is possible. Thanks

Good idea Stu, For some of us less knowledgable, would you mind sharing when we should advance (earlier), delay (later) or leave alone for the following time for each of the seasons?

Take it for what it's worth, but going back to the original topic, I've had Homeseer since 1997. I am now making the switch to the ISY and Insteon for what I call "mission critical items" things that needs to work. Mostly for WAF and my own piece of mind. I am not sure that HS3 is all that I was expecting and they are still ironing out bugs for a product that's been 3 years in development. They've dropped a lot of other features if a 3rd party already has a plugin for it. (extra cost and at the mercy of a hobbyist that may not be there in a year). I've also had issues, since this all runs on a PC with Windows OS, that I had a hard drive crash 2 night before leaving for vacation. Beleive it or not, I had that happen to me twice in the past 14 years, so now I have to rebuild a system in a hurry so that my house looks occupied when I am gone, one of the reason to have home automation in the first place. Don't get me wrong, HSTouch is nice as well, but honestly, I never finished an entire project, 3/4 into it, I wanted a different look and started all over again, did this countless of times. My attraction to ISY + Mobilinc is that I just want to be able to trigger the hardware that I just added without spending hours designing screen for the different resolutions of my devices. I am not a big fan of the Mobilinc interface, but it's a trade off so that I don't have to come up with a new screen design because I added a lamp module. There is a plugin for Homeseer to ISY, so I will keep HS for the fun and "cutesie" stuff, but moving things towards ISY with Z-Wave board
