  1. Thanks so much for the information. Will play with that. Just got my remote to work for the first time. Also converted some binary flags to a variable loop counter. Much easier than incrementing flags. Paul
  2. FIXED!!!!!!!! I deleted my scene and reconstructed. Seems to work. Functionality I am going for. Timed pump action on and off at times appropriate for our family activity. On 4 KPL units. LED follows pump on/off regardless of which switch activated or timer activated pump. On each KPL Click on - pump is on 30 min then off. On each KPL Fast Click - Pump is on for hour, then off. On each KPL Click on - pump is off regardless of timer. Thanks for listening and helping!!!! I am testing the code for the 30 and 60 minute timers right now. Paul
  3. Just ran the "Then" portion of the timer program. Pump failed to start and the buttons on the KPLs didn't light. Summary page for programs shows the last run time to be when I tripped the "Then" portion of the program. 4. Sorry, I didn't mean to be cryptic. I would love to get to the bottom of this and will do everything to make your help easier to render. The program: If On Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri Time is 5:00:00AM Or On Wed Time is 6:30:00AM Or On Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri Time is 7:00:00AM Or Time is 5:00:00PM Then Set Scene 'sc Pump' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Water pump on at 5am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for Hillary early start. Water pump on 6:30am on Wednesday for Hillary, late start. Water pump on at 7am for Weekdays. Water pump on everyday at 5pm I have another one similar to this to turn the pump off at various times. The KPL buttons work as expected. Turn on and off the scene "sc Pump" and the LEDs in the buttons work as expected. I have four KPLs and they synchronize with each other and the pump in the scene when activated by the physical button press. The program, however, behaves like it isn't even there. The program fails to launch at the specified times and when I run the "Then" portion of the program manually there is no joy. I wrote a program that turns on the pump directly and that program worked, but it failed to turn the LEDs in the KPLs so there was no indication that the pump was actually on. That program was deleted and there is no other program that is tied to either the scene "sc Pump" or the pump itself. Programs are saved and enabled. I have more complex scenes that control 8 exterior lights at different times and they are and have been working great. They activate at different times of day via the ISY and have been quite reliable. They are all light modules, not the appliance module like the one in use with the pump. The reason I share this is because it tells me the ISY is capable of triggering programs by time successfully. Please don't give up on me. If I have failed to explain anything that needs clarification I will be more than happy to provide the information. Paul
  5. I'm no expert but I think I would use one program for starters... If 6AM to 8AM Then Scene Pump is on Else Scene Pump is off The other thing that would help is to copy the actual program and paste it here like this http://forum.universal-devices.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=5764 Hope this helps! I originally thought of this solution, but want to be able to turn on the pump with the KPL at any chosen time. I can pop this into the ISY and see if it works, but I don't think it will. There is something else at play here that I haven't figured out. Even when I run my turn on routine manually by executing the "Then" portion of the program, it fails to work. Paul
  6. I have a hot water recirculation pump that drives hot water around a loop in my house. Turn on any faucet and hot water appears within a second because hot water is constantly recirculating. I love this when it is shower time, hate it when I think of energy consumption and degradation of copper pipes. I used to run the pump on a timer. On sometimes, off most times. Insteon and the ISY to the rescue. I put keypads in several strategic locations around the house. A button press on one keypad turns on the pump, the light on the keypad link and all the other keypad link buttons associated with this scene in the house. Works like a champ but is manual. Press button on it goes on, press button again and pump and KPL lights go off. My hopes were to program a timer that would turn the pump and KPL button lights on at times and off at other times. I cannot get this to work. I have two programs, one (IF time = 6 am THEN set scene PUMP on) and in a second program (if time = 8 am set scene PUMP off ) . The scene contains the pump switch ( appliance link ) and the keypads. This is as simple as I can imagine and yet it won't work. I have no idea why. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Paul
  7. I just restored all devices and still have the same problem with the scenes where I havent deleted the device and re-added. I am going through my scenes. Once this is done, I will tackle the keypress not activating programs as desired. Somewhere along this path, I want to update to the latest beta firmware as I bought one of the wireless 8 button controllers and I understand only the latest betas will respond or be able to be programmed to work with that device. Paul
  8. I am running a restore device command again in case I did that before I restored the PLM. Afterwords, I will check the other scenes and see what happens. Next on my debug ritual will be to figure out why some of my programs are not running during a KPL button press. Thanks a lot for the hand-holding. In 2008 or so when I installed my ISY, I played around a bunch, but having the system run without modification/inspection for a few years has caused me to basically start over again with figuring out how it all works. Paul
  9. There is still some odd behavior with some of my programs and I will be debugging them as I go along, but the timers that control my exterior lighting seem to be working well. I know there are other scenes that need the delete and restore treatment, and I have yet to go through all of them. Is it possible that there is a refresh function of the ISY software that I am not aware of that will prevent the need to go through each scene? Thanks. Paul
  10. I have been busy removing the devices from each scene and reinserting. Has been working like a champ. Found you can control click and add a bunch at a time... Thanks a lot for your help, I do appreciate it. Paul

  14. This weekend was to be the weekend I was going to fix/update my ISY99 setup. Originally, I had it set up exactly to my liking. Timed events, occupancy sensors, rotating scenes on a button push, etc. Was cool. An update to the firmware ( at least a year ago ) appeared to kill the rotating scenes, but I accepted as everything else worked. Then my other scene buttons seemed to die, but as long as my lights came on and off when I wanted, I accepted. A week ago, my lights stopped coming on and off when I wanted rendering the most important single feature unavailable. I logged on to my ISY and found an error msg that my PLM died. Replace, restored modem, restored devices. I can control the switches from the ISY panel, but I cannot seem to get a single scene to work. When I visit the scene, for example in the following images, the desire is to have all the lights at 100%. They are at 0% and when I set the light to be at 100% I get the error shown in the second image. Any help would be appreciated. Paul
  15. In my home I have a hot water recirculating pump that when on give me hot water at any faucet in a second or two. When off, you may need to run the hot water for a few minutes to get it to arrive at the tap. Before home automation I either left it on all the time or used a simple timer but the timer didn't allow for easily turning the pump on during scheduled off times. Using the Insteon network I now have the hot water recirculating pump on during scheduled windows of time, but also have the ability to turn the pump on and off at will. The programs below show how I use a KPL button to indicate if the pump is on or off, turn it on for 20 minutes or an hour or turn it off at will. The information is a single page PDF document. A screenshot of it is below. Download by clicking the link below the screenshot. A similar application would be control of a light that is on a timer. IF THE ISY COULD STORE THE STATUS OF A LIGHT, the program could run and then return the light to the status before the timeout. i.e., you want a dim light in the garage at certain times, but want to go full bright for a timed amount. Click one time to get 100 percent bright and after the timeout the light could return to normal ( off or on or whatever the status was before the adjustment by KPL button. ====> DOWNLOAD THE PDF BY CLICKING HERE! <==== Paul
  16. You may post the information on your Wiki. I don't mind if you post an original copy or link to the copy on my website although I cannot guarantee it will be hosted forever. Paul
  17. This tutorial was made to help me learn about the use of flags to control program operation. Even if you don't want to control multiple scenes with a single KPL, this will show how to use flags as variables. Hopefully with the next release of firmware, this will be obsolete. This tutorial is in the form of a single page PDF file. Below is a thumbnailof the PDF. Below the thumbnail is the link to the actual PDF. Click here to download the PDF file to your computer. 18. The Smartlinc went back. Too bad it wasn't capable of setting up scenes with programmed levels of brightness easily. If it had, I never would have wanted the ISY. Now that I have the ISY, I am doing things I never thought I could do so easily. All in all a step in the right direction. Paul
  19. Michael, that is an easy question. My iPhone is a much better remote control than the remote control products that are sold by SmartHome! Tonight I will check my ISY via my iPhone and see what it looks like. Paul
  20. I bought a Smartlinc http://www.smarthome.com/2412N/SmartLin ... 12N/p.aspx two weeks ago and was disappoined with it's inability to define brightness levels in scenes. This led me to the purchase of the ISY-99. I removed the Smartlinc from my setup before adding the ISY-99 and was planning on returning the Smlartlinc, but now wonder if I should keep it. Is it possible to link the Smartlink to a scene defined by the ISY-99 or do the two units operate independently of one another. Anyone out here have both? Are you happy with the way they work together or is it porblematic? Paul

    Event viewer codes

Thank you VERY much. That is what I was looking for. I will examine the information later tonight at home! Paul
  22. I was watching the event viewer at level 1 and found the codes used. ST OL RR and was looking for a reference to their meaning. Can anyone point to a definition or provide one? Thanks in advance. Also while viewing the ISY log, I was wondering if there is a reference to the log data. The log result of -2 must be a error condition and I see the user can be system or program, but I also got a user of web. Curious as I have not enabled web access. and was looking for a reference to their meaning. Can anyone point to a definition or provide one? Thanks in advance. Paul
  23. Excellent thread. Thanks. Paul
  24. This is V2 and it looks a little better. The difference is that I stagger the on/off cycles a bit. Still not quite as random as I would like. Paul If On Never From 8:45:00AM For 1 hour Then Repeat Every 0 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Overhead' On Wait 2 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Sink' Off Wait 2 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Undercabinets' On Wait 2 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Overhead' Off Wait 2 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Sink' On Wait 2 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Undercabinets' Off Wait 2 seconds Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')
  25. Hello and thanks for all the good posts. Having read them I have been able to setup my ISY to work with my existing switches and modules. I am very impressed with the hardware and software! The hardest set of programs I have written have been to turn a hot water recirculating pump on and off at prescribed times and have it's status mirrored in a KPL button light. What made it hard is that if the pump was off and someone wanted instant hot water pressing the button must turn on the pump, but turn it off after an hour. I was very pleased to see it work... so far... So on to my question! Given that Halloween is coming up, I would like to take the 5 dimmer switches that control the lighting on the front of my house and have the brightness slowly ramp up and down, preferably between 20 and 60 percent continuously while the kids are out trick-or-treating. I would like them to ramp up and down over a period of a few seconds and not have them all in synchrony. Any ideas? I have been testing my program to do this on my kitchen lights and the effect is pretty lame. Hopefully someone will have a great idea that will put mine to shame. This is the program I am using now. All the scenes this references have a ramp rate of 8.5 seconds. If On Never From 8:45:00AM For 1 hour Then Repeat Every 0 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Overhead' On Wait 2 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Sink' On Wait 2 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Undercabinets' On Wait 2 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Overhead' Off Wait 2 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Sink' Off Wait 2 seconds Set Scene 'sc Crazy Undercabinets' Off Wait 2 seconds Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Paul ps. Also, if there is a better way of starting and stopping the program without setting the time "IF" the way I do, I wouldn't mind hearing about that either. PJ
