  1. So I followed this guide: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY994i:INSTEON_Device:FanLinc-KPL_FanLinc_KeypadLinc_Configuration One change I would add is to set the "Light" to be toggle mode so that the "off" button lights up when off (if in non-toggle on then all buttons are off when not on) But everything else seemed to work great. Both controls from the KPL directly and from the ISY admin area are functioning as expected. However, one thing that does happen is when I control a fan scene from the admin like "KPLFan-Med" On.. it turns ALL 4 kpl button lights on. It does put the fanlinc into Medium speed, but I have to go back and manually turn off the button lights but clicking the physical "Med" button which does turn everything off except the "Med" button. *Note: I use "A" for off and "D" for high which is not the standard way many of you have.. but shouldn't be relevant for this issue. Did I miss anything?
  2. Now that you say it... I realize I knew that.. but in my thinking about it I forgot.. so you are right.. there is no real reason for me to do it manually. Thanks for the kick
  3. I guess the main reason for direct linking is to remove dependency on a hub if the hub goes down. A localized switch-to-light relationship is more ideal, especially since the hub is on the opposite side of the house. But I don't disagree that going against the grain is going to potentially cause future issues. I'll do some more playing around with it. Also, you know you love my anthropomorphic analogies
  4. Thanks for the tips. Luckily the solution was fairly simple It does seem like the "scene" aspect is what was confusing my expectation of the logic. As you noted Larry, the codes to KPL doesn't control the fanlinc.. it just controls the KPL lights... but it's the "scene" that controls the fanlinc which is triggered by the controller/responder relationship of the 2. So I'm tapping on his shoulder, and he says he's going to run and tell somebody.. but doesn't actually do it because he doesn't actually have somebody to tell. So I left the direct links alone but simply setup a separate scene for both devices in ISY. Now it works fine from the switch to the fanlinc with its direct linking... and also has a separate scene for them in my ISY. Since it's just a state machine in the end, the admin ui reflects the current state of the scene regardless of manual switching or programmatic. Thanks again!
  5. That's a bit of a canned answer.. Logically I would think it should work If I tap you on the shoulder and you run and tell somebody "something".. even if I don't know what you are saying to that person, it doesn't change the fact that when I tap your shoulder, you run and do "something". So logically I shouldn't need to know the other device.. I would think I only need to know the KPL so when I tell the KPL to turn on.. it turns on "Something" which means it simply closes its relays. I'm well versed in ISY but sometimes I try to think outside the box.
  6. I just replaced my switch for light and fan with a KPL and a Fanlinc. Everything worked great. I manually linked the two devices to each other directly without the ISY involved. But then I linked just the KPL to the ISY so I could still use Alexa to turn things on/off. I see the KPL in the admin UI and I can see the current status updating when I manually turn the buttons on or off. But when I send an off command from the admin panel for either the light or the different fan speeds, the status updates to "off".. but the actual light it still on. It doesn't actually do what it says it is doing. Any idea why this might be?
  7. Never understood the hate against resurrecting old posts. Why would I want to have to search in multiple different threads for the same topic? This topic is perfectly relevant and might have new progress. You don't put half your conversation in one voicemail then continue it in another.. just keep it going and double tallmans to anyone that complains. Now, on that note.. I too just installed a fanlinc and noted the same behavior... low is a little too low and medium is low.
  8. And what's the bottle neck there as to why we don't have status ability on devices? Alexa or udi?
  9. I'm sure it has been asked before and I searched for this but didn't see any matches in the first few pages of results. Is there a way to get Alexa to get the status of devices like switchlincs, sensors, or at the very least state variables by asking? I tried created a state variable (pseudo virtual device) and asking what the status of it was, but Alexa says its not supported. Is this something that will ever be supported?
  10. NVM I found it in the wiki https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY_Portal_IFTTT_Integration
  11. I just need to make a call to the ifttt webhooks trigger url https://maker.ifttt.com/trigger/<event>/with/key/xxxxxxxx I dont need to parse the response.
  12. Is there a way to make a webcall from the ISY? I have the portal and I know it can receive inbound IFTTT calls and rest calls. But how about if I want to send a webcall when a program executes? I know the old Network plugin would do this, but I thought it was being replaced by the portal which would allow all the same functionality + more.
  13. I feel it's sometimes more the bulb/dimmer fault than it being an insteon problem. I have some LED bulbs from Homedepot in my basement that flicker with a normal wall (non-smart) dimmer, even when set to the highest position. I recently moved some of those bulbs into 2 lamps upstairs that are on insteon dimmers, but still set to 100%. I see the same flicker. So It's the bulb.. not the insteon.
  14. Honestly though probably good for anyone.. I have had a similar setup for the past 2 years without siren where I autoclose the garage every 20 mins ... and I've had a close call where I was actively backing out of my garage right as it triggered the auto-close. It is a quiet opener so I didn't hear it as I started to back out of the garage and I couldn't yet see the door coming down in my rear view. The door luckily pushed down on top of my car and went back up... had it been down 2 more inches though, it would have caught my luggage rack and I would have likely pulled down the door.
  15. Hmm. Well I have another 2412U but it was certainly a USB-B connector. I don't think the thing you said exists
  16. Well it just doesn't work at all.. so it's no faster
  17. Nah this was on ebay.. sold as refurb... I guess I got what I paid for.
  18. Ok I got a new PLM... but I think it was some Frankenstein module sold on ebay. The sticker says "2412U" but it has an serial jack on it. And it does power the ISY when plugged in. So I think it was some refurb and they swapped the USB port out. But... 1. ISY goes into safe mode when I connect it and restore plm fails with cannot reset the plm 2. I tried factory reset which is supposed to turn the LED off after holding for 10sec and release. But on this one the LED flashes for about 4 mins 3. No matter what I do, ISY cannot communicate with it so I think its a dud. Meanwhile, I went back to my old PLM and did a factory reset on it. Restored the Modem and in the event viewer, some things look better than before. I added 2 new working access points to my house as well. But I think the problem is actually the hops. Looking at the event viewer log, most of my devices are showing hops left :0 What's odd about that is my PLM is on my main floor, literally 10-15 feet from 2 IOlincs (1 communicates, 1 doesn't), 3 switch lincs (1 communicates, 2 don't) an On/Off module, 2 Keypadlincs, and a dual band Lamp module (only 1 month old) which also acts as an access point/mesh repeater. Everything is on that floor and well within range of both Mesh and powerline. I also have some X10 motion sensors going through a TM 751 which has been working fine. So I don't know why I'm running out of hops Event Log for restore of PLM looks good: Event log with hops left at 0 for the failed modules that ran out of hops: Oddly on subsequent plug/unplugs of the PLM.. different modules seem to work at spurious times. Even when the ISY admin panel can't talk to it, the timers I have set for things like the iolincs both function correctly. All 3 switchlincs turn on every night automatically. And at times I am able to interact with the devices through Agave... other times they time out. Seems like maybe some spurious noise interfering or something, but nothing changed that I can think of. Maybe I'll buy a filterlinc module and see if that helps.
  19. I think mine is going bad... but really weird situation Started on sunday... I use door open/close sensors to detect if my garage is open. if open for 15 mins, I have a program set to trigger my iolinc to close the garage door. That day I noticed it going up and down over and over as if it wasn't getting the "closed" signal.. so it just kept toggling. I unplugged the PLM for 10 secs.. and plugged it back in but it didnt help. Then I did an upgrade from 4.5 something to 4.6.2. My outside light programs were still working sunday night so I figured all was well. Monday I saw my side lights and patio lights turned off, but the front door light program didn't. I went to work and had the garage open for more than 15 min and it triggered the close script. I double checked on Agave and it showed Closed for the door sensor. But then my neighbor calls me saying the door is open. I login to the admin jnlp and none of my devices are able to be queried. says it could not communicate with any of them. But... 1. My light timers are still working every night this week. 2. When I do a Tools->Diagnostics->PLM Info it shows Connected 3. When I do a Tools->Diagnostics->Show PLM Links table it goes out and is able to grab 86 of them and the addresses seem fine at first glance 4. Made changes to programs and everything seems to process fine. I see flickering lights on the PLM when I send commands 5. I did a reset of the PLM (plug in while holding set for 10 secs) and then restored modem. That actually gave me "some" of the devices back.. I can now query my front and back lights.. but not the side lights. All insteon dimmer 2477d switches. IOLincs are still not talking. Tried putting the door sensors in linking mode but it still not finding them. So I bought a new 2312S and we'll see how that goes.. but it seems like the PLM is working in general. So maybe something else. Also noticed that neither of my Access points are doing anything when I plug them in. No lights or anything. Held the set button down for some time and nothing happens. Tried hitting it 4 times really fast to enable phase switching mode.. still nothing. So think maybe they are both dead and possibly one has been dead for a while and the second one just died and maybe that is why I can't talk to anything. So I bought 2 more on ebay. Think I will buy a few more anyway. Anyway.... things are a mess right now

  21. Got the 99i on ebay. Just getting started with insteon to replace my older x10 stuff and found a used $50 99i decent for getting started to be sure insteon and x10 is the way I wanted to go. Eventually I was going to add some zwave/zigbee and know I'd need the 994iZ for that. From what I read, the 99i should be able to work with all the original insteon devices and I have all the older Insteons.. the more rounded ones.. not the newer rectangular ones. I only tried "Start linking" and tried added the IR linc and access points. But it seems like they aren't the kind of devices I should be linking. I'll have an appliance linc tomorrow and I can try that which I assume should work. I also have about 7 Keypadlincs that I assume should work and soon an i/olinc for garage use. So I'll try those. Thanks!
  22. 99i with 3.3.10. There is no 99i forum that I could see. So I don't need to add any of these devices via "link" ? Why are they (at least the IRLinc) in the devices list for the "Add insteon device" menu option?
  23. I've seen this topic before for other things but I've had almost no luck with any insteon devices and the 99i When I try linking or manually adding any of my insteon devices I get either "cannot add insteon device" or "cannot determine insteon engine". I've tried 2 access points, 1 IRLinc Transmitter, and a Powerlinc Modem. The powerlinc modem is unnecessary to add I believe, but it is the only one that actually worked. I've enabled level 3 details: For both access points it gets: Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:27 PM : Start Insteon Device Linking Mode Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:27 PM : [LNK-BGN ] 02 64 01 00 06 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:48 PM : [LNK-STAT ] 02 53 M(01) gid=00 15.DB.14 000B 92 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:48 PM : [15.DB.14 00] Linked device type=00.0B fw=92 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:48 PM : [15 DB 14 0 ] Added to list of devices to link to ISY Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:48 PM : [LNK-BGN ] 02 64 01 00 06 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:53 PM : Stop Insteon Device Linking Mode, Final processing to follow Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:53 PM : [INST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 15 DB 14 0F 0D 00 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:53 PM : [LNK-END ] 02 65 06 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:53 PM : [Std MH ] Unexpected Ack imCmd=65 cmd1=LTOFF-F 0x14 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:54 PM : [INST-ACK ] 02 62 15.DB.14 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:54 PM : [INST-SRX ] 02 50 15.DB.14 16.87.74 2B 0D 01 (01) Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:54 PM : [Std-Direct Ack] 15.DB.14-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:58 PM : [INST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 15 DB 14 0F 0D 00 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:58 PM : [INST-ACK ] 02 62 15.DB.14 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:59 PM : [INST-SRX ] 02 50 15.DB.14 16.87.74 2B 0D 01 (01) Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:59 PM : [Std-Direct Ack] 15.DB.14-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:59 PM : [15 DB 14 0 ] Calibrating engine version Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:59 PM : [15 DB 14 0 ] May not fully support i2, reverting to i1 Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:59 PM : [15 DB 14 0 ] Using Database Link Table offset 0x0FF8 (reported 0x0000) Sun 03/29/2015 11:37:59 PM : [15 DB 14 0 ] Failed to add device For the IRLinc transmitter I get: Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:53 PM : [20 FF 2E ] Added to list of devices to link to ISY Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:53 PM : [INST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 20 FF 2E 0F 0D 00 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:53 PM : [INST-ACK ] 02 62 20.FF.2E 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:53 PM : [INST-SRX ] 02 50 20.FF.2E 16.87.74 2B 0D 02 (02) Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:53 PM : [Std-Direct Ack] 20.FF.2E-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:53 PM : [INST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 20 FF 2E 0F 10 00 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:54 PM : [INST-ACK ] 02 62 20.FF.2E 0F 10 00 06 ID-REQ (00) Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:54 PM : [INST-SRX ] 02 50 20.FF.2E 16.87.74 2B 10 00 ID-REQ (00) Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:54 PM : [Std-Direct Ack] 20.FF.2E-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:54 PM : [INST-SRX ] 02 50 20.FF.2E 03.07.4A 8B 01 00 (00) Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:54 PM : [Std-Broadcast] 20.FF.2E-->03.07.4A, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:54 PM : [20 FF 2E 0 ] Calibrating engine version Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:54 PM : [INST-TX-I2CS] 02 62 20 FF 2E 1F 2F 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 D0 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:54 PM : [INST-ACK ] 02 62 20.FF.2E 1F 2F 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 D0 06 (00) Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:55 PM : [INST-SRX ] 02 50 20.FF.2E 16.87.74 2B 2F 00 (00) Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:55 PM : [Std-Direct Ack] 20.FF.2E-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:55 PM : [INST-ERX ] 02 51 20 FF 2E 16 87 74 11 2F 00 00 01 0F FF 00 A2 00 26 0A 88 00 00 00 68 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:55 PM : [Ext-Direct ] 20.FF.2E-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=1, Hops Left=0 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:55 PM : [20 FF 2E 0 ] Using Database Link Table offset 0x0FF8 (reported 0x0FF8) Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:55 PM : [INST-TX-I2 ] 02 62 20 FF 2E 1F 2F 02 00 00 00 10 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 BE Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:55 PM : [INST-ACK ] 02 62 20.FF.2E 1F 2F 02 00 00 00 10 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 BE 06 (02) Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:56 PM : [INST-SRX ] 02 50 20.FF.2E 16.87.74 2B 2F 02 (02) Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:56 PM : [Std-Direct Ack] 20.FF.2E-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:56 PM : [INST-ERX ] 02 51 20 FF 2E 16 87 74 1B 2F 01 00 01 00 10 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:56 PM : [Ext-Direct ] 20.FF.2E-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 Sun 03/29/2015 11:10:56 PM : [20 FF 2E 0 ] IRLincTX addr=0x0010 ..
