  1. I have previously used geofencing with the occupancy node server. I have used various programs as triggers for the location from the old UDI Moblle app (Discontinued) to 3rd party options. In most cases it worked reasonably well but lately this has been hit and miss. I saw this article https://www.universal-devices.com/geofence/ and set it up using the "new" UD Mobile app. I noticed that using this method I cannot easily include the logic in programs from the admin console as it does not create nodes or servers that can be included in programs. Did I miss something? Is it possible to add the function in UD Mobile act as a trigger for the Occupancy Node Server like you had it before? How are other people incorporating geofencing in programs in a eisy/pg3 world? Thanks in advance Leon
  2. I have a fan that has bond built it. I like it a lot and it is well supported by the bond node server. Currently I have a standard switch which we never touch since I want it to stay on and we control the fan either from the remote or programs running on eisy. I would like to replace the switch on the wall with a Insteon 8 button controller and wire it insuch a way that it has no load. I then want to program the buttons and assign speed and other task to the 8 buttons. I know it is doable but would like to hear if anybody else has done something like that and if so what is the delays from pressing the button to the adjustment happens at the fan? Thanks Leom
  3. I was wondering how much work it would be to add electrical usage as a display to the Virtual Device Node Server? Let me explain... There are many devices out there now that just like remote sensor capture the temperature also capture the power usage at that point. It would be nice to use the Virtual Device node server to be able to display this and for the way I want to use it, I have tested it already and I can make it work... My issue is that my power usage display now shows me that I have used 50 F The numbers are correct and in principal it works but it only allow F or C ... Can you add the option to select W/h as a symbol or measurement choice? Thanks and regards
  4. Ok I have it working. I finally unplugged the ISY and the PLM. Left them out for about 2-3 minutes then plugged in the PLM and then plugged in the ISY. When I started the admin console it did not give any of the errors but opened a window that said "System Busy..." It took a long time to finish but when it finally closed it was done... No more looping. I have tried to link the switch again by selecting "Start linking" and then on the switch holding the program button for 2-3 seconds. That worked without an issue this time.
  5. I am trying to link an Insteon switch and yes my admin console and ISY are both at v5.3.4
  6. Thanks I tried what you recommended and it still did not work. After rebooting ISY and opening the admin console I still get the same behavior but now the error message in in triplicate.
  7. I am using v5.3.4 of the admin console. I have been adding a few dimmers to my existing system that was running fine. On Friday I noticed that one of the new sets of switches did not work as expected. (A 3-way with one controlling load setup using scenes) I did some troubleshooting and could not get it to work. I decided to delete the 2nd switch and relink it to ISY. I reset the switch to factory default and then put it in to linking mode. In the Admin Console I then opened "Start Linking". It never found the switch. After about 5 minutes I stopped the searching on the Admin Console and reset the switch again. I then opened "Start Linking" on the Admin Console. It gave me an error and said "Looking for devices" and it immediately displayed the Linking... messages. This has now been running for two days. I have looked and there was one other topic that described something similar. It never really mentioned what fixed the issue but said that it worked fine if the Admin Console was started using IsyFinder instead of loading it using admin.jnlp. It also mentioned clearing the java cache. This morning I have closed the Admin Console and cleared the cache and tried to start it using both IsyFinder and admin.jnlp and still see the linking loop. From Polyglot I have restarted ISY and reconnected the admin console and the "Linking..." window opened up immediately. I have opened the event viewer at level 3 and the only traffic I can see is the normal zwave traffic but nothing else. I have looked at the list of devices in the ISY Console and none show in writing mode (green 1011) Unfortunately while this is going on I cannot do anything else. Any ideas would be appreciate Any ideas would be appreciated.
  8. Thanks. I was just checking my sanity
  9. I have a little question as i want to check my knowledge and understanding. I just bought another house and noticed the pool light does not work. The previous owner was kind enough to spend an hour or two with me to explain oddities of the house and the pool light and garden lights came up. For the pool light I was told "It has not worked in the 10 years we stayed here... The previous owner told me it works with a remote control in the house but I have never seen a remote control at all" I had noticed a few older X10 light controllers around the yard and smiled and said the pool light is not an issue I will look into it. The previous owner then proceeded to tell me that they have replaced the pool light twice and had pool services and electricians looking into it and nobody could get it to work. After he left I switched off the electricity to the pool at the main breaker box and cracked opened the Intermatic pool breaker box. As I suspected there was a X10 light switch connected to the Pool light breaker. It looked old and very dirty. I removed the x10 switch and since i only had a normal old light switch on hand, I replaced it with the switch. The light worked! The light switch is wired in the load side of the pool light and is connected to a GFCI between the breaker and the light switch. I decided to replace the light switch with an Insteon switch which requires the neutral wire so that I can control the light and add a light switch in a more convenient spot. I now have the GFCI tripping since I have installed the Insteon switch. I am wondering if an Insteon switch can be used downstream from a GFCI? I have put the old switch back and it works fine but as soon as I change to the Insteon switch it trips the GFCI. Thanks for the help.
  10. Thanks for all the great discussion. In the old house we had 2 fans with DC motors and obviously could not use the Fanlinc on them. I really liked the fans and the remote they had allowed great control... even switching for summer and winter. The only issue was that I could not integrate these fans with ISY. And then I found Bond and their local API. I had a tough time getting Bond to learn the remote signal but finally got that sorted out. I wanted all my fans controllable by ISY so that I could write a program to turn all fans on low while the A/C was running. This mixed the air better. Then when the A/C shut off the fans change to medium speed. At night the fans in the living areas shut off while the fans in the bedrooms run on low. Using Bond brought some interesting conflicts when using local/remote control along with programmatic control with ISY. I fixed it in a very crude way by sending an off signal, wait 5 seconds and then setting the speed. With that ISY mostly displayed the correct status for the DC fans. I think the idea of adding a box in an accessible location to add a fanlinc is great during a new build but is not always feasible when moving into an existing home. It also means spending money to fix an issue that the manufacturer should address. The other option of using a Insteon Switch to contol on and off, and then use the remote to control speed and direction is good, specially with some of the newer DC motor fans. I question the value of using and Insteon switch in this way if you have a standard fan without the remote from a pricing perspective... The Insteon switch is $49.95 and then i can turn the fan on and off... or I can get a GE Fan Control switch that turns the fan on and off and allows speed control for around $43 or I can get the HomeSeer fan control, have on/off control, speed control up to 4 speeds and use the LEDs on control as status indicators for otherevents in the whole system for around $47. My thought is I bought my ISY994 because of Insteon but it supports Zwave very well. It seems like I now have options that SmartHome has not given us before and these options allows me to build a better overall system to suit my needs. I do find it interesting that when I started this post I also mentioned the Leviton Smart Wifi protocol and fan control. In all of the discussion nobody mentioned it at all which may just be an indication of what people think of that product range. I figure we have some very smart people in this community that does lots of Home Automation for a living and nobody commented on it! Thanks again for the great points everybody raised.
  11. Thanks for all the insight so far. When we moved into the new house, I considered using just an Insteon switch but previously we did change the fan speed. One of the first things my wife complained about in 2 of the rooms was that the chain to adjust the speed was missing and you could only switch on the fan at a given speed. I will try the new GE/Jasco switch and keep you updated. I may even slip in a home seer combination and let you know the difference
  12. It seems like it was 2011 when SmartHome came out with the fanlinc and people have been asking for a switch that will allow control from the wall. It could be that you are using a fan without a light kit or you have a house that is wired with both a light switch and a fan switch. SmartHome has been stubborn in not providing that switch. I have read through many posts and have come to the following conclusions: In the past I have used FanLinc and then put a dummy switch to blank out a hole. With 4 fans I had to replace 3 of the 4 fanlincs multiple times. This seem to be an unreliable proposition. There are at least four options available and none of those are insteon based: GE Zwave Plus Smart Fan Control Homeseer HS-FC200+ Leviton DW4SF-1BW Decora Smart Wi-Fi Fan Speed Controller Lutron Caseta wireless fan control All of the options have at least one issue... The GE ZWave does not report status to the ISY994 when controlled locally..., the homeseer HS-FC200+ works well but the color does not match and therefore does not meet WAF..., the Leviton is not a ZWave switch but use Leviton new propriety wireless protocol and the Lutron requires a caseta hub to integrate which adds to the cost. I would like to hear from others how they have tackled this issue. Is there a way to build an Insteon solution using relays and capacitors?(For obvious reasonsI do not want to use a dimmer to control fan speed) Have anybody used any of the new Leviton SmartWiFi switches and if so how would you integrated that with the rest of your system? I have not seen a node server for the Leviton Smart Wifi protocol yet although I have seen a python plugin on github. How well does Zwave devices work when included with scenes? Can I still use an Insteon remote to set the fan speeds? As for using the Homeseer switches and the color that does not match... I can get around that by buying a Homeseer light switch and face plate so thatthe color difference does not stand out. I am sure I can re-use the Insteon switches elsewhere in the house.
  13. It seems like SmartHome in their infinite wisdom have decided to stop the manufacturing of the 2477SA 220V / 240V 30 AMP INSTEON Load Controller (Dual-Band). I wanted to use it to switch the power to the hot tub pump. Any recommendations for replacements... I am looking at these: https://www.amazon.com/Aeon-Labs-White-V3-26-AL001/dp/B00MBIRF5W https://www.amazon.com/GE-Appliance-Required-Works-SmartThings-14285/dp/B00YTCZZF0/ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WXLRF2U/ TIA
  14. Thanks Brian for the quick response. I actually remember looking at that thread oh about 6 months ago while browsing for interesting ideas. If you read through the thread it points to another thread where the thermostat is seen sending the remote probe information but the ISY is ignoring it. Part of the reason was given as the ISY not capable to hand the variable setting. I know there are major changes in the v5 firmware. Is there a time that ISY will show the remote probe temperature and when this can be used in programs?
  15. As a follow-up ... I called SmartHome and explained the KeypadLinc behavior and was told that all sounds normal. At that point I asked for an email address and while I had the support person on the phone I recorded a short video whie stepping through some of the things and then sent it to him. End of the story after many tests and resets I was told to return and replace... Glowing red set buttons are NOT normal. Now if Smarthome can only send the replacement item as well as the other two items I am waiting for .....
  16. I am wondering if the ISY994 supports the remote thermostats(2441ZTH) ability to have an addition temperature sensor(2433A3). It seems like you can add you can add a waterproof sensor to the thermostat and it it will display the temperature of the remote sensor on the screen. Can I see this temperature reported in ISY and make decisions based on it? What I want to do is use the 2441ZTH outside in a weatherproof container and have the remote sensor 2433A3 monitor the water temperature in the hot tab. Initially I want to be able to see and report the outside temperature and the hot tub temperature within ISY. Now sometime in the future I would like to maybe have some program react to the temperature being reported but that is not a requirement for now.. Thanks in advance
  17. Thanks Paul, I tried the factory reset and then the device restore and the faint red glow is still there.. With one added oddity. Now when I hit a button, the backlights do not come on.
  18. Over the weekend I installed a keypadlinc to control a fanlinc. I followed the same instructions as I did before and things seemed to work. However as I was finishing up and putting the switch cover on I noticed that the set button had a faint red glow that stayed on the whole time. I checked some of the other keypadlincs I have installed both connected to fanlincs and otherwise. I have not seen this on any of them. I have looked at documentation and have not seen any mention of the set button shining red. Does anybody have any idea why this may be? TIA
  19. I am using ISy994 with UI at 5.0.10 and Firmware at 5.0.10. I added the EZFlora to the ISY and then got the following message during the process: I clicked on the FINISH button and it added the EZFLORA but no Zones or anything is listed: I have also removed the EzFlora and added it back in manually by setting the address and selecting the device type 04.00 EzFlora/EzRain. It then adds the EzFlora but still adds it as an unsupported device as per the screenshot above. ISY-Events-Log.v5.0.10__Sun 2017.08.13 01.23.10 PM.txt
  20. rcwagner, In your post you question the viability of using something else to monitor your garage doors. One of the products you mentioned is the GarageHawk G07.. Although it is a great device, it is not supported by the ISY994. I thought you would like to know that... But your comment made me wonder... What would it take to add support for the GarageHawk myself? Can it be done? Can I access it if I use an Insteon Hub as a proxy? I do not want to derail your discussion but if support for the GarageHawk can be added, it may solve your issue too.. Any ideas?
  21. No.. I have looked and I am using = in the program. Laundry - Variable Control 2 - [iD 0016][Parent 000A] If Control 'Leak Sensors / Leak Laundry-Heartbeat' is switched On Or Control 'Leak Sensors / Leak Laundry-Heartbeat' is switched Off Then $sLeakLaundry = 1 Wait 25 hours $sLeakLaundry = 2 Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')
  22. Thank you very much for this program. I do however have a question since I can not figure it out. I used you program to monitor a single leak sensor and everything worked well. I was so happy with it that I added an additional 2 leak sensors to monitor. Since then the Status Code in the system seems to add up every 24 hours instead of resetting to 0. As of last night this is the message I got: ========================================================= A problem has been detected with a leak sensor. Details below: Sump Pump: 6 Laundry Drain: 14 Basement : 14 ---Status Key--- 1 = Heartbeat OK (normal status) 2 = Heartbeat missed 3 = Heartbeat check program not running 9 = Leak detected ---------------- Note 1: It may take up to 36 hours for a "heartbeat missed" signal to clear Note 2: Status Code 3 indicates the "Variable Control 2" program is not running for some reason. ============================================================ I have deleted everything and started from scratch and I am still having the same problem. What am I missing? Regards
