I'm looking to put under cabinet RGB or RGBW strip lights in my kitchen and would like to have the ability to control them via ISY. I'm very familiar with the lights themselves and have used several of the cheap IR and RF basic controllers. I've seen a few ZWAVE controllers (Fibaro) and some Wi-Fi controllers as well. I have the ZWAVE and network module for ISY so I could use either. What I forsee is defining a few preset colors and being able to set those via programs. Im not sure if the Wi-Fi controllers allow you to set the color via http? I think that would be the easiest. I really don't know how the z-wave would work without some custom plugin or something. Has anyone done this?

How To Guide: Getting Alexa to provide verbal responses

Glad you got it... Still might be fun to have her tell you who's awesome. -

For troubleshooting that may be a simpler case. Remove some variable... Literally -

It would just be a static response. Alexa, tell me who is awesome. She should reply, " you are". No program, no variable. Run the resources once, and she should always respond that way, no? Maybe she doesn't like 74.5. Try 74. -

Let's assume there was no variable, just text. Would it still read the text? Seems that it would. -

I think she has picked up the tell me command or she wouldn't have said "There is no response for this input". Make sure your intent matches the utterance field and the network resource. I think she has or she wouldn't have said "There is no response for this input". Make sure your intent matches the utterance field and the network resource. Needs to be exactly the same in all the spots . -

Right, if the variable is zero the program never runs. Running the then statement manually solves that. So does changing to >= -

Try either running the network resource or the programs then statement manually then retest. Also check the Alexa app to see what she heard. Make sure it matches your utterance. -
How To Guide: Getting Alexa to provide verbal responses

My spa status variable is 0 when off, 1 when on, and 2 when in cool down mode. After it's been running, and I turn it off the variable changes to 2 but never goes back to 0 because the program says Spa Heat Status - [ID 0037][Parent 0033] If $SpaHeat > 0 Then Resource 'Spa Heat Status' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Because I don't fully understand "If $SpaHeat > 0" I have to ask, is there any harm in changing it to If $SpaHeat >= 0? If it's doing what I think, I don't see why this wouldnt work. Maybe eventually I'll get creative and figure out how to get alexa to say on, off, and cooldown based on the variable status. Im thinking I could have three different network resources. The program would run the appropriate one based on the variable. The network resource would be hard coded with the proper text, and no variable. Think that would work? Thanks -

I noticed that suddenly when I tell something to turn on via Amazon Alexa, it's functioning like I said off. If I say 100% it does turn on however. I noticed that a lot of my devices now show "On Level (Applied Locally)" set to 0. I changed them to 100 but it only retained that setting for a few. The others reverted to 0. I then restored my ISY using my last backup and all seems well. Does this sound like it could be a failing PLM or something else? Thanks

Concerned! Lots of odd devices added in the alexa app

Ok, thanks. I feel better now. As to my first issue, I know this is the wrong forum but since Ive got your attention, I noticed that a lot of my devices are suddenly show "On Level (Applied Locally)" set to 0. I changed them to 100 but it only retained that setting for a few. The others reverted to 0. Does this sound like it could be a failing PLM? Should I make this it's own thread? Thanks -

I issued a discover devices command. It only found my devices. The other devices remained, albeit "offline." I manually deleted them to see if they come back. Any ideas how this could happen? Very concerned and not sure what to do or what to check to get to the bottom of this. -

How To Guide: Getting Alexa to provide verbal responses
n8huntsman replied to blueman2's topic in Amazon Echo
I'm using an Autelis device to control my pool. The device also passes status, such as pool and spa temp, back to ISY in a state variable. I have been unable to figure out any way of querying alexa for the spa temp variable. This appears like it is my solution. Am I correct, or is there an easier way. I wish variables were treated as devices so I could simply say, "alexa, ask isy the status of variable xyz." -
button controller/amazon echo device contrl vs program control
n8huntsman replied to n8huntsman's topic in ISY994
I added this to each of my program steps. Sunset Bar Lights 3 - [ID 0015][Parent 0012] If Time is Sunset + 1 hour And Status 'Outdoor Bar Lights' is 40% Then In Scene 'Outdoor Bar Lights' Set 'Outdoor Bar Lights' 30.0 Sec (Ramp Rate) In Scene 'Outdoor Bar Lights' Set 'Outdoor Bar Lights' 50% (On Level) Set Scene 'Outdoor Bar Lights' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') 40% is the value from the previous program. This should work I think but it's a little clunky. The only problem I can see is if I manually turn it on to exactly 40% the program will continue but I think this will probably be unlikely. -
button controller/amazon echo device contrl vs program control
n8huntsman replied to n8huntsman's topic in ISY994
I guess I could dedicate another button as a hold. And have the program check the status of the hold button... Just don't like the idea of sacrificing a button and I couldn't figure out a way to use a variable in this situation. -
button controller/amazon echo device contrl vs program control
n8huntsman replied to n8huntsman's topic in ISY994
Correct, but if I use status, the second schedule program never runs. The first schedule program changes the status so the second one thinks I have manually turned it on. -
I have a device (responder) and a KPL button. I have two scenes, one uses the button as a controller to turn on the device. The other has the button as a responder for when the Echo turns the device on. This causes the button to update. I have a schedule program that takes the device through a cycle of varying levels throughout the night. I also have a program to update the status of the device: Bar Status - [ID 0006][Parent 0007] If Control 'Kitchen - B' is switched On And Control 'Kitchen - B' is not switched Off Then - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') the above was intended to know whether the device had been manually turned on to prevent the schedule program from running. The problem is that when I turn the device on using the Echo, the device is not considered switched on, and the schedule still runs. This one is killing me. No matter what I come up with, I run into a roadblock of some sort. Any ideas? Thanks

This confuses me. What would be the case where it is "turned on" but not "not turned off"? Seems like the two conditions are logically equivalent, no? edit: after some thinking, does the second condition cause the program to reevaluate when the light is switched off?
-
So if you like to use your KPL button backlights to tell if a particular device is on or off, would you add the following to all your programs that turn the device on? Then Set 'Kitchen / Kitchen - B' On 15 / Off 15 (Backlight Level) So with the device on, even though the button is technically off, the light will still be on?
-
If a program turns a responder in a scene on, and that responder is part of a different scene that includes a kpl button as a controller, is the kpl button considered "on"? trying to figure out my override variable it's seeming more complex than it was originally when I first thought about it. I was gonna create a scene that includes a kpl button and turned on the bar light. Then a program that says if the scene is on, the variable is true. Then to the program above add, "and variable = false" to the condition and change the scene to a new scene that does not contain the button and simply turns the lights on. My concern is that when the program above executes, the lights will turn on which will, in turn, turn on the kpl button which will change the variable and then cause the conditional argument to fail. Head is spinning! I don't expect anyone to understand what I just typed. I will try to map it out to make it more understandable unless someone has a simpler idea.
-
Gotcha. Makes sense. So I will add an action to turn them off inside the else path. Now I need to figure out an override; for example if I were having a party and wanted the lights on brighter till I turn them off. I'm thinking of using a variable for that. If I manually turn the lights on, it will trigger a manual variable. The program will check to see the variable before executing. I'm starting to get it but I'm sure I'll run into a few more issues.

Thanks. I have updated my folder program to match yours. Ahh, I see. I thought if the scene was already on the program would just update the scenes parameters. I have added additional on commands. Will the scene not turn itself off at 9:00 when the program stops? If not, how would I tell it to turn off at a specific time? When the program "halts" what will occur? Thanks
