  1. Thanks everyone! Lots to think about and consider. I am just now learning the integration of ISY into google home so I might just end up going in that direction. Appreciate the feedback as always! This place will only be 1-1.2K sqft in size so I'm not sure I can fit a rack into the design. Lots to think about and tinker with!
  2. Thank you - this is very helpful info! I will start going down the Z-Wave rabbit hole and see what i find. . . Again many thanks - I really didn't think about that option.
  3. Any advice appreciated: We built our farmhouse about 5 years ago and I went with the following setup for our home automation: ISY for lighting ELK for security Both Alexa and Google for Voice Samsung Frame TV's Nest for HVAC Hardwired HD cameras backing up to a dedicated DVR We are now in the process of shopping for a 2 bedroom condo in San Diego that will be our "Florida" winter home. We plan to do a full tear out and retrofit - opening up some walls and gutting most of the existing interior to fit our needs. It will be a place that our family and friends can enjoy as well. I love my current setup, but I have some concerns on the complexity with guests and possible noise over the existing neutral lines. While I love Insteon, there are times when it does things that are not expected - and some devices need to be reset etc. I also notice that there hasn't been a ton of development on the hardware side for some time. If you were in my situation - what system would you use today on a fresh install to have similar automation for lighting and security that my primary property has in a home that will be 2K miles from your home base? There is a dizzying array it seems, cost is not an issue, but I don't want to do a Control4 type system as I want to have 100% control over the system. I have no experience with systems from Smart Tings or Amazon. Appreciate any feedback!~
  4. Super late to this one - but I used Lutron roller shades and honeycomb treatments. Their little hub can take commands directly from the ISY over the network (similar protocol as their pro line). Very easy setup and all battery powered (shades not drapes). I bought so many I am considered a dealer (could help someone out at my cost if needed). I do not have access to their automated drapery line - but did buy one - it was pricy - but works and is rock solid. https://www.serenashades.com/ideagallery?shade_style=roller

    Question 1

I have two questions I just can't seem to figure out. I would love for someone to explain it to me like I am eleven years old. 1. Is there a way that I can use my ISY that is connected to my ELK to set my Nest to Eco mode if someone leaves a door or window open for 30 minutes? 2. We also have Lutron shades and drapes in the house. I would love to have the Elk send a command through the ISY to the portal so that I can trigger an IFTTT event. So that if I have an opening like a door or window open that has a shade or drape on it - it would open the window covering based on the state of the contact on the elk. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Brad
  6. Upgraded. I had a PRO originally that came with my ELK. I had too many devices / programs and that is what was causing the issue. The ELK issue - just needed to change the port setting to the non-secured 2101 port and that fixed the communication issue. Got all the motion sensors reinstalled and reprogrammed. Thanks again!
  7. You Sir - are a hero among men. Thank you. Worked.
  8. Thanks Jon, I disabled the Elk in the software. No longer getting the traffic. Still can't link the motion sensors... 10. Thanks for the reply. Both the UI and ISY show firmware at v4.3.26. I have over 100 dual band devices everywhere. Even went upstairs next to the PLM and nothing. I have 8 switches within ten feet of me now. I know they are connecting because if I try and link it will show v.0.0 and once I set the sensor into linking mode it will flip instantly over from v.00 to v.41 (the actual sensor version I believe). I have also set the sensor into linking mode first and then tried to link - no luck there either. Is there a version of the ISY that can't connect to motion sensors (thinking I might have bought the incorrect ISY?). Thanks!
  11. I have searched but cannot find... I replaced a bad ISY and imported my database - BOOM back in business! Except that all the motion sensors would not work. I pulled them all down - pulled all the batteries - did a hard reset on one. Removed them all from my ISY Program (Deleted and removed links). Tried to link them using the menu Link Management - Sensor Motion Sensor. These are 2842-222 3413 Rev.2's. I have about 9 of them. Pressed the button for 5 seconds until blinking. Software responds with: "The Following Devices Could Not Be Added: 27.8A.1E (2842-222) INSTEON Motion Sensor v.41 - Cannot add Insteon Device" Any ideas at all? Thanks!
  12. Yep - the PLM has a light and is solid. I will flip the cable tonight - I'm just sure it is more on the other side of the fence since it happened during the upgrade. Last resort is the reset! Thanks everybody - I will update with results.
  13. Well.... I flipped to my work computer. I can now pull up the admin console - but I can't find the ISY. Tried all the IP addresses on the network - no luck. I'm thinking about the hard reset - but now I'm worried that the backup that I just did might be bad... Ugh. Thanks!
  14. So I rebooted everything - the ISY last - All I get is a steady power light - no a flicker on anything else. Can't seem to downgrade to Java 32 2014 on El Capitan... Question - is it possible to send in this thing with my backup and pay to have it un-bricked / reloaded with the backup? Wife's gonna kill me when she realizes that nothing is working right. Thanks again! Brad
  15. Well.... I checked the router and it said the ISY was inactive. I went up to the gear closet and all i have is the power light. Nothing else flashing except the LEDs on the ethernet port on the back. Reset power on it / the switch / and the PLM and I'm getting the same thing. I'm guessing it is bricked? Thanks!
