ISY 994 PRO OADR
Old Surfer Dude replied to Old Surfer Dude's topic in New user? Having trouble? Start here
Here is the system information: Model: ISY 994 1024 Platform: ISY-C-994 Version: 5.0.15 Build Timestamp: 2019-04-10-13:28:02 -
How do I access the Instantaneous Demand from an other program? Background: Quite a few years ago I bought an ISY 994 PRO OADR with the idea that I could monitor my electric meter and compare its data with the two other sources I have that collects energy usage/generation data. I envisioned a program that would request from the device, every 15 seconds, the instantaneous demand and store that data to a file. I got it installed and it is reading the meter just fine, but I never got around to writing the program, mostly because I didn't have a clue of how to access that data. Now I see that the ISY994i is going end-of-life and I have to assume that this device will soon follow. I need to get this done while the device is still being supported. Thus my question. OSD

I was experimenting with status and it appears that when using Status, only the first line of the Then-path is executed. I have that first line execute the Then-path of a second program. Seems to work, but certainly not elegant. MBbathFan Timer 1 - [ID 0034][Parent 0001] If '- / MBbathFan.(ZW 039)ONoff' Status is On Then Run Program 'MBbathFan Timer 2' (Then Path) Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') MBbathFan Timer 2 - [ID 0022][Parent 0001] If - No Conditions - (To add one, press 'Schedule' or 'Condition') Then Disable Program 'MBbathFan Timer 1' Wait 20 minutes Set '- / MBbathFan.(ZW 039)ONoff' Off Enable Program 'MBbathFan Timer 1' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

Firmware and UI v5.30, Z-Wave (21100) If I observe the switch in the Main tab, the state, ON or OFF are indicated correctly When I press the switch on and wait 20 minutes the fan does not turn off. Also, during that 20 minutes, the icon of the program never turns all green. It is my understanding that an all green icon indicates a running program and a program "waiting" is a running program. I confirmed this by right-clicking the program and then clicking on [Run Then]. Attached is the event(3) file "it may use hail so you'd need to set that up" How would I know if it used "hail" and how do I set that up? I tried to query the Z-Wave Configuration Parameters (MainTab-->right click device-->Z-Wave-->Set Configuration Parameter-->[Query] ) which resulted in an Error (dialog box is white with "Error [OK]") ISY-Events-Log.v5.3.0__Mon 2022.09.19 06.45.05.txt

My switch is a EnerWave ZW15XM-Plus I want to turn off the fan 20 minutes after it has been turned on: If '- / MBbathFan.(ZW 039)ONoff' is switched On Then Wait 20 minutes Set '- / MBbathFan.(ZW 039)ONoff' Off Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') This works when I have an Insteon switch, but does with this Z-Wave switch. Why?

Admin Console crashing or ISY994i rebooting itself
Old Surfer Dude replied to Old Surfer Dude's topic in ISY994
@MrBillThanks for looking. I can't say for certain if I did those. I am about 70% confident that I did not do the 8PM one. I hoping that someone else had seen this and had a solution. But now I'll be better monitoring the situation and report back with logs Thanks again OSD- 4 replies

Here are some symptoms: Admin Console unresponsive error box but all white login box login box but all white To recover from this, on my windows computer, I close the Java process with the Task Manager. This is pretty annoy, especially since I'm trying to debug some weird stuff going on with the Z-Wave. This could be related. I thought this might have been related to my unsuccessful attempt at using Polyglot 2.7. I backed up my configuration and did a factory reset. I also factory reset the PLM. I restored the configuration and restored the PLM. This had little affect. Perhaps you know this poltergeist? I am trying to upgrade my ISY994ZS PRO: I found this page which instructed me to download this file ISY 994i ZW, Z, or ZS Series (Z-Wave/Zigbee and/or if you do NOT have a PLM). It is a zip file. I click on Help->Manually->Manually Upgrade ISY->[OK]->[YES]->(find folder, modify name)->[Save]->choose Upgrade File->[Open] and then I get the error "Upgrade Failed :Invalid or incompatible upgrade file". I tried both 5.3.0 and 5.3.4. Clearing the Java cache (Control Panel=>Java=>[Settings]=>[Delete Files]) did not help. I have a second ISY994i with both IR and Z-Wave. I ran the above steps, re-installing 5.3.0 which was successful. I had I noticed that on the previously linked page that one should upgrade to 5.3.2. In searching for that release, I found a page that had a link to 5.3.4 I found this link to attempt with 5.2.0 -- No Joy. Help.

ISY994ZS PRO unable to access dashboard and data
Old Surfer Dude replied to Old Surfer Dude's topic in ISY994
I had to get a new start.jlnp file, But now I can't update to the most recent release -
I got this device long ago with the idea I was going to monitor my electric meter and then compare that data to TED Pro Home and from the data I collect directly from my solar panels. I've finally gotten around to looking at the data collection using the ISY994ZS PRO, but I can no longer even access the dashboard. I'm also going to need some help taking putting that data into a file. I will eventually merge the data from all the sources into a spread sheet for analysis. This is just one of the many challenges of this project. PVPower, the manufacturer of the inverter, has long since closed its doors, but fortunately, the information still exists on the web. I'll certainly appreciate any help I can get.

Setting Parameters on Zooz ZSE18 Motion Sensor
Old Surfer Dude replied to Old Surfer Dude's topic in ISY994
@heardc When I included my device, I was about a meter or so away from my ISY. It was also close when I set the parameters. The magnetic mount made it easy to do this. OSD -
Before I dive into Polyglot, I thought I'd check the depth of the waters. I found the instructions to install Polyglot-V2. Seems straight forward enough, but there was no mention of installing it on an existing RPi, that has a desktop, some existing projects, etc. I assume that I open a terminal window and follow the instructions starting at the command line interface. Right? I didn't find a similar set of instructions for -V3. Am I missing something? Ultimately, I hope do run a program on the ISY994i to monitor the wireless remote soil moisture sensors (that I am developing) to control appropriately the valves on my gravity fed irrigation system using MQTT communication. Big elephant, small bites. Ployglot with the MQTT node server looks like one path forward. Thanks for you input! OSD ps, Did I read that node servers are called "Poly's"? Shouldn't they be called "Glots"?

I was having a heck of time with this. Z-Wave in general wasn't working as expected. I did three things: updated to 5.3.4, ensured that Java was up to date, and cleared the Java cache. Now I needed a way to consistently set the parameters. There are, hopefully, better ways but this worked for me: In the UD admin console, Main tab, in the ISY section 1. Right click the ZSE18 motion sensor entry. 2. Click on Z-Wave 3. Click on Set Configuration Parameter 4. Enter the Parameter Number (e.g. 18) 5. Enter the parameter size (see documentation that came with the device) 1, 2 or 4 bytes e.g. parameter 18 is 2 bytes 6. Enter the value e.g. values for parameter 18 are 3-65548, value+3 equals number of seconds, a value of 42 would be 45 seconds 7. Open the device by twisting the two halves counterclockwise, about 15°, and pull the halves apart. 8. Click on the set button of the dialog box, immediately followed by pressing and holding for 5 seconds the Z-Wave button* of the device. (Manual wake-up mode) 9. The blue light on the device will start to flash after 5 seconds. Release Z-Wave button. (you may get error messages, which you can ignore.) 10. Click on close. *The Z-Wave button is the button bellow the battery (the only button). I agree, it's dumber than dirt, but if you have a better way that works consistently, put it here.

Need help Documenting my ISY994i configurations
Old Surfer Dude replied to Old Surfer Dude's topic in ISY994
Thanks for the input! I'd never used "generate topology" before and I think I will find that useful. The copy programs to clipboard will be a bit cumbersome as it generates XML. Yeah it's readable, once you put in line breaks. I think I'd have to write a macro to strip it down. Also, and this is a good thing, I'd have to put more comments in each of my programs. Not only do I have my data in cloud storage, but also in a local NAS. (all of that has to be documented, too.) I appreciate your ideas and I feel like I'm on the right track. It's just going to be a lot of work.- 10 replies

It is important that I document my configuration because eventually someone else will be responsible for the home automation system. I have 40 devices and keeping track of everything even gets tough for me. I envision the first part of the documentation will be a very simple user guide; the location of a device, what it does, and how to operate it. For everyone reading this topic, it's so obvious that documentation is not necessary. But, for those who enter my house, it is anything but obvious. This section is for them. There would be one section for rebuilding the system from a saved configuration. Then there would be section for rebuilding from scratch. This would have links to existing documentation, like manufacturer's docs and ISY wiki installation instructions. There would have to be a database that has location, name and ID. These latter two should be found in a saved configuration file, but I have yet to figure that out. If you have done all of this with your system, can you give me some advice on how to proceed? Thanks OSD

I agree with Illusion. UDI has yet to succumb to the temptation of forcing the customer to bear the cost of support as Illusion describes. UDI has actual documentation in the form of its wiki. It is useful and pretty well thought out. Documentation is very hard to maintain, it has to be corrected and it has to be redone with each new version. I'm showing my age here, but there used to be companies that had complete documentation BEFORE the product was released. As Illusion notes, most companies don't bother with customer support, offering just a forum with conjectures by the contributors as to what the design is. I have found UDI's responses lead to solutions. That said, I hope that UDI continues to offer great (relatively speaking) customer support. Yes, it will increase the initial cost of products but the cost of ownership will be lower.

I am basing this comment on my experience with obsoleted hardware and new software. Since you do not have any Z-Wave devices, remove the old Z-Wave board. Then you should be good to go. An opinion: I started getting Z-Wave devices when Insteon/Smarthome stopped offering the very functional motion sensor. I am not looking forward to the day when the ones I have crap out. I have since gotten a Z-Wave thermostat and a couple outlet switches and once configured (which can be painful) they work just as well as Insteon.

I did that and I still have the intermediate step of the ISYFinder. This is what I did: updated java clear java cache including installed apps http://your.isy.ip.address/admin.jnlp put an icon labeled [admin] on my desktop launched [admin] which downloaded and application, put an icon [ISY Admin Console] on my desktop, and started my UD Admin Console closed the Admin Console Opened the [ISY Admin Console] and got the Unable to launch the application error

I have two ISY994i/IR and ISY994 PRO The ISY994i/IR upgrade from 5.0.15 and It went smoothly. One Z-Wave was a little reluctant to receive writes, so I right clicked it --> Restore Device and it came back. The ISY994 PRO (which I use for reading my electric meter) I thought I should be using - ISY 994i ZW, Z, or ZS Series (Z-Wave/Zigbee and/or if you do NOT have a PLM) because it doesn't have a PLM and it is Zigbee. but I got the incompatible error. I'm a little wary about using the other firmware. Suggestions? And then I wasn't sure what was meant by: 8. To launch the Admin Console directly from your ISY, go to the following link: - http://your.isy.ip.address/admin.jnlp I assumed that it would create an icon that would skip the intermediate step of going to the ISYFinder. It did create the icon "ISY Admin Console", but clicking on the icon results in the error: Unable to launch the application. Suggestions?

PWR LED (blue) flashing SOLVED -- power supply
Old Surfer Dude replied to Old Surfer Dude's topic in ISY994
Thanks for the tip on the 500mA, I do have a Z-Wave board. I cut the cable off of the failed supply and cannibalized an old USB cable and made them into a USB power supply cable. I'm using one of my 1A USB power plugs. All seems good. I didn't realize how much I depend on the device! "Ohhhh, you don't know what you got 'till it's gone ..." [musical icon here] -
Nothing was working so I went to reset the ISY manually and saw that the blue PWR LED was blinking or flashing. I think it was the way that it was blinking that made me suspect the power supply. The LED would get brighter, but when it got near full brightness, it would shut off. This is symptoms of the over current limiter in the power supply kicking in. Did something fry in the ISY? 1. Measured open circuit voltage of the power supply: 5V. 2. Measured power supply with load. I took the back off the ISY and measured the voltage at the power supply jack: bounced up to about a volt at the same frequency as the LED 3. Measured power supply with load of 25ohm resistor (200mA) 0V. Yup the power supply was dead. 4. found another 5V power supply with matching plug (checked polarity) All is working again Suggestion. Since the power supply is 5V@500mA, why not power with USB power supply?
