Getting rid of Java? Hmm, I may have to rethink my game plan. I switched to Indigo from ISY a few years ago because I’m a Mac guy, but I missed some advantages that the ISY had. But not Java. However, I did purchase an EISY last year with the intention to switch back. I chickened out when I considered the pain of re-linking all the Insteon/Z-wave/Hue devices to the new system. There are still some integrations that I would need to be equivalent to my current system, such as using UniFi Protect cameras as motion sensors. Home Assistant might close that gap. I’ll be watching this space. Chuck

@mbking, the link you provided above takes me to a HDMI extender. I did some digging and found what I think is appropriate. I don’t know how to post Amazon links, but it’s a AV Access USB Extender w/Power Over Cable (There’s an 8% off coupon for it now). I ordered one and I’ll report back on it. But I can’t get eisy to see the Z-matter dongle unless it’s plugged directly into the eisy. I was using a 6 foot USB extension cord, so it may have to do with voltage drop. In which case the Power Over Cable feature might overcome that. I’ll have to try it and see. ‘Stay tuned…

Support thread for: PG3x v3.1.36 (July 11, 2023)
Dr. Q replied to bmercier's topic in Polyglot v3 (PG3x)
As a follow up to my original post, I ended up doing a factory reset of the eisy and started over again, which was fine since I was starting from scratch anyway. Both eisy fw and PG3X are updated now. -

Yep, tried sneaker-net reboot (pulling the power) as well. I'll try it again for longer; if that doesn't do it, I'll write up a ticket. Thanks, @Geddy. -

@Michel Kohanim Not true, PG3X shows in the upper left corner. I also can’t seem to get the fw up to 5.6.3. I should point out that this is a brand new eisy and setting it up as a blank slate, IOW, I’m not transferring from an ISY994. I also have a Z-Matter dongle plugged in, but the z-wave menu in the AC shows “Z-wave dongle not responding “. I have the z-wave box in the configuration tab checked. -

I’ve never been able to get past 3.1.31, running IoX 5.6.2. Tried all the tricks. I’m not afraid of SSH, is there anything I can try? -
Glad to hear from another Indigo user. I also like the server/client approach to administration and would like to see UD ditch Java and go with a web based method, but it is what it is. I picked up a couple of USB PLMs just before Smarthome shut down, so I’ll start with a fresh one. I’m trying to find a way to print a list of all my devices from Indigo so I don’t forget any, and go around the house and re-link it all. The FanLincs are going to be a pain, but worth it. Thanks for the good wishes.

Mr. Bill had it right, I thought there might be a way to transfer the PLM memory to the eisy but I guess not. Ugh! In which case I might as well go ahead and get the Zwave-Matter dongle too, even though Matter doesn’t matter to me (heh). My wife will be out of town next weekend, might be a good time to make the switch. In the meantime, I‘ve been playing around with the eisy, once I figured out to turn the VPN off on the Ubiquiti network. I have some Twinkly lights, so I installed the NS and got it working, even with the gen 1 lights. Nice. Ultimately, I think it will be worth the trouble to start over, as lilyoyo says. My problem with Indigo has always been the lack of an equivalent version of ISY scenes. Also, the Trigger/Schedule-Conditional-Action cadence used in Indigo makes things that are simple to do in ISY needlessly complicated and repetitive. For example, to turn a light on or off in ISY requires one If-Then-Else cadence; Indigo requires two cadences, one for on and one for off. I’ve been keeping an eye on UD since I moved on, and have seen a lot of advancements. I need to control Hue lights with Insteon dimmers, use UniFi Protect cameras for motion sensors, bring some of it into HomeKit and integrate all that with zwave sensors. It looks like eisy in combination with Home Assistant will get me there. Good thing I enjoy screwing around with this stuff 🤪 ‘Thanks for the info and listening to my rant.

I moved from ISY 994 to Indigo a few years ago, and now I’m looking to move back. I have a eisy on the network and operating. Since I already have a USB PLM linked to everything and an Aeotec G5 zwave stick also linked, can I just plug them in and pick up from there without running around resetting all my devices?

I have two of these and would love to use them on my two new exterior doors instead of drilling holes in the frame. I’ll keep watching this thread for updates. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I have to pipe in here and mention that I’ve decided to move my security type devices to HomeKit, which involved swapping out a Schlage 469 for a Sense (Bluetooth instead of Z-wave) and picking up a Insignia (yes, That Insignia) Wi-Fi Garage Door Controller for Apple HomeKit, $70 at Best Buy. If you have an Apple ecosystem, this is hard to beat; the only cloud here starts with an “i” and it doesn’t come with an app, you use the Home app. The Insteon Garage Door Kit was my rationale for starting this expensive hobby in the first place, after going away on a Christmas weekend and finding I’d left the door open. While I’ve never had some of the problems others have had, I’ve never really trusted the thing and I’m glad to get rid of it. Chuck Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

..plus two Ethernet ports and your choice of red, blue, or yellow case to blend in with your room decor. I need white.

Well, So in a program to adjust a scene I either have to adjust the scene 'on level' You could call sequential scenes in a program to whatever effect you're going for. If you have a 3/4/5 way and the switches are linked (as in a scene), they'll act as one and the LEDs should match across switches (you're talking about the little white LEDs on the side of the switches, right ?. There was a long philosophical debate somewhere on this forum from way back about the pros and cons of scene levels. On the one hand, it makes no sense, a scene is binary. On the other, a scene level *status* can be deduced from any devices within the scene that were adjusted after the fact, but you can't *control* a scene other than on or off. This is an option in Mobilinc, and Agave, I think, to show the total percentage of the scene that's running at the time. HTH Chuck

A scene can only be on or off, no in between. If you need a different level, make a new scene with that level defined. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Warning: Unrecognized Condition (program may not run) I just found a yada-yada...

I was seeing the yellow folders when I was futzing with the Hue node server. If a program is looking for a device that’s offline, a italicized message along the lines of ‘unrecognized something yada-yada’ appears in that program line and the program and folder icon turn yellow until corrected. A handy feature, once I saw what was happening. Don’t know about the turquoise, though. HTH Chuck

Last time I looked, UDI was selling them for half price (after I bought mine, of course). That may had been a one-time thing, tho. It was many moons ago. Check with UDI. Chuck

Hi, stilen I've been using a Schlage 469 for over a year and a half now and changed the 4 AA alkalines once, only because the motor sounded weak, the lock still reported over 60%. It plays well with ISY v. 4.6.2, very well with 5.x.x. You need a good z-wave network, Zooz makes some inexpensive plug-in on/off modules that make good repeaters. You can have z-wave or zigbee but not both with ISY. What zigbee do you have? Chuck

Enough lurking, it's time I speak up... I've been rocking ISY/Insteon for ~ 15 years, and I've been slowly adding Z-wave to the mix ever since it became available. Except for the occasional PLM flameout, a stable system, 4.6.2. But I needed some more excitement in my life, so I decided to stop being patient and load up 5.0.10. Boy, am I glad I did! The new Adjust Scene was worth it alone, major WAF scores! The Schlage 469 lock also seems to behave itself better than on 4.6.2. This weekend, I took a stab at running Polyglot on my Mac home server, since I had a stash of Hue lights I've been playing with the last few years and have wanted to control with ISY this past Halloween. I've had some experience using Terminal to log into RPis, but I was nervous mucking around in the Mac that way. With the help of i814u2 (thanks again, man), I have it up and running, and making the neighbors nervous with the porch light. Loads of fun! (As I was in the middle of this process, I saw that v2 has dropped; I'm standing by and hoping for a Hue update with special effects access and a .osx.x86_64 version). Now that I've had some time to stand back and look at all this, I'm delighted and amazed! The Polyglot upgrade cost me nothing but a few hours on a weekend, and now I have a highly programmable HA hub that speaks Insteon, Z-wave, Hue and even X-10 if I wanted to dig my old Radio Shack stuff out. There's nothing else on the market like it! It may not be pretty, and maybe you have to get your geek on to do some of this, but it's only getting better. We've only scratched the surface. Chuck
