Thank you @larryllix, I confirmed this behavior. Also @TrojanHorse His Vanity Fast On is a trigger for a program, then His Vanity Fade Up is the trigger for another program. Also, I thought the Pioneer receiver network resources were global cache but it's actually eISCP (Integra Serial Communication Protocol) which is very slow. After realizing that, I think there's a good chance it is the cause of the issue. I'm going to convert these to global cache commands and I will report back after trying it for a couple weeks. But I am going to go through and use @Teken's list of best practices on my probably 100+ programs. Man, I wish I could put ISY as software on a beef-eating PC. @Teken the one that interests me most is the tight loop and I have a couple questions. Can you explain these two statements a little further? I use The Home Remote software for a whole home controller on tablets and phones. I likely have hundreds of REST calls for status and control to the ISY from Home Remote, and it's also set up for polling, so unbeknownst to me, it could be making dozens of calls every second.

@TrojanHorse interesting...I can test it to see if these network commands do fire simply by being enabled. That would be a clean resolution. I'll report back.

I find myself hunting and pecking with the KPL that I do have. Since it's usually 5am when I use this program, I wanted it to be as mindless as possible. Walk in the closet, turn light on, sound comes on.

Sure, here's what it's designed to do: I have a small TV in the bathroom and a speaker the main area, shower, and my closet. The main program is so that if I double tap the light by my sink on, it turns on the tv. The programs called "vol up x4" that become enabled turn the light switches in the main bath, shower, and closet into volume controls. The programs "showeron" and "closeton" tell it to turn the speaker on if the respective light is turned on. bath tv vol up x4 - [ID 006B][Parent 0040][Not Enabled] If Control 'Bath / Bath His Vanity' is switched Fade Up And Control 'Bath / Bath His Vanity' is not switched Fade Down Then Resource 'pioneer.volup' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.volup' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.volup' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.volup' Else Resource 'pioneer.voldown' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.voldown' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.voldown' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.voldown' bath tv vol up x4 closet - [ID 0044][Parent 0040][Not Enabled] If Control 'Bath / Greg Closet' is switched Fade Up And Control 'Bath / Greg Closet' is not switched Fade Down Then Resource 'pioneer.z3volup' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z3volup' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z3volup' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z3volup' Else Resource 'pioneer.z3voldown' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z3voldown' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z3voldown' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z3voldown' bath tv vol up x4 shower - [ID 0043][Parent 0040][Not Enabled] If Control 'Bath / Shower' is switched Fade Up And Control 'Bath / Shower' is not switched Fade Down Then Resource 'pioneer.z2volup' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z2volup' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z2volup' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z2volup' Else Resource 'pioneer.z2voldown' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z2voldown' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z2voldown' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z2voldown' closeton - [ID 0041][Parent 0040] If $BathTV is 1 And Control 'Bath / Greg Closet' is switched On Then Resource 'pioneer.z3vol30' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') showeron - [ID 003E][Parent 0040] If $BathTV is 1 And Control 'Bath / Shower' is switched On Then Resource 'pioneer.z2vol30' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

Wow, what a wealth of information. I'm going to go in and redesign using these specs. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this up!

So it sounds like I need to adhere to some sort of "best practices" way of doing program execution. Can you offer a suggestion of how to achieve that? I'm thinking that I need to make a better attempt at the order of my logic...maybe have the other programs that are enabled come after the network resources fire?

Sometimes when this program runs, it misses one of the network resource commands. The network resource commands are global cache IP2IR commands to do things like turn on the TV. The program has been used every day for a year and all commands have been tested to work separately. 3 out of 4 times, this program will run without an issue. But sometimes, it will start missing a command, and then it usually keeps missing it every time it runs from there on. If I reboot the ISY, it runs and doesn't miss commands for a week or two. Does this make sense to anyone? Are there some better practices I can do to make this run smoothly? Or should I schedule the ISY to reboot nightly? bath tv on fox - [ID 0010][Parent 0040] If Control 'Bath / Bath His Vanity' is switched Fast On And $BathTV is 0 Then Resource 'pioneer.on' Enable Program 'bath tv vol up x4' Enable Program 'bath tv vol up x4 shower' Enable Program 'bath tv vol up x4 closet' Enable Program 'showeron' Enable Program 'closeton' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'Bath.TV.On' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'Bath.Dish.On' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.inputsatcbl' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z2on' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z3on' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z2inputsatcbl' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'Bath.Dish.num2' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'Bath.Dish.num5' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'pioneer.z3inputsatcbl' Wait 2 seconds Resource 'Bath.TV.On' Wait 1 second Resource 'Bath.TV.On' Wait 1 second Resource 'Bath.Dish.On' $BathTV = 1 Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

Dennis, thank you so much for commenting. I will correct immediately.

I'm sorry, I should clarify that it wasn't faulty, but I assume I damaged it prior to this post where I had wired it incorrectly and tripped the breaker.
-
Brian, thank you for the response. A replacement confirmed it was a faulty unit.

I'm trying to install a new light fixture and use a micro dimmer in the fixture box so I don't have to install a light switch. I'm getting power from a nearby electrical outlet. Here's a diagram of how I have wired it. The light comes on and when I turn the micro module on and off, the light stays on. Can someone please help? Have I wired it incorrectly, or is the micro module faulty?

@palayman if you look up the phrase "christmas led" in the forum, others have had similar problems and reported being able to get the lights to turn off by plugging in another device that draws a small amount of power, like a cell phone charger.
-
Ok great. Smarthome order has been placed and I went with the outlets. Excited for the upgrade. Thanks!
-
@lilyoyo1 thanks for the reply. I just saw that smarthome.com is having their black friday sale and everything is about 50% off, so I think I'll go ahead and do what you did and buy an extra set of devices for the Christmas lights. Follow-up question: if I do buy an extra set of devices, while my devices are unplugged that aren't being used for the Christmas season, can I just "disable" them in the ISY admin?
-
Every year, I repurpose about 10 lamplincs and use them for Christmas tree and garland lights. I will create scenes and programs that differ from the scenes and programs that are used the other 11 months out of the year. It becomes a nightmare trying to remove, and then recreate these scenes and programs. Are there any options for an easier way? It's like I need a "Christmas Configuration" for my ISY and then a "Main Configuration".

Thanks, this worked for me.

Can I Use A Micro On/Off Module Behind A Fan Speed Wall Control?

Thank you a million! That worked! -
You both might have made a new customer out of me...this thing is cool.

Good news - looks like the good folks over at www.fireboard.com have the full array of BBQ accessories you're looking for as well as an API. Whatever status updates or control they offer via the API can be integrated into your ISY!
-
Well if that's not just the coolest thing ever. I have no doubt it could be done. The uphill battle would be finding a variable speed fan to fit the grill (I'm not sure how you would control it) and smart meat thermometers that had an API or some sort of json or xml status page that you could query to get the values into your ISY. Then, unless they already sell them, you would have to fashion clips to mount the fan to the grill. And this wouldn't include the LCD screen that one has or the fancy-pants app with charts and graphs.

Can I Use A Micro On/Off Module Behind A Fan Speed Wall Control?
gregkinney replied to gregkinney's topic in ISY994
Thank you for your help. I believe I just corrected the wiring and hooked it up as a latching switch. I can toggle the on/off module successfully now regardless of the state of the in-wall fan switch. When I adjust the in-wall fan switch, it turns the fan on and off. However, if I put the in-wall switch to low speed, it does not turn on at low speed. It is either high speed or off. So each time I change the in-wall switch, say from low to medium, it just changes the state of the fan to off if it was currently on, or vice versa. I understand now that the micro on/off module is operating as Insteon intended, and so it doesn't seem possible to have the fan speed set to low and then use the micro on/off module to toggle the fan state on and off, with on being the low fan speed that the in-wall switch is set to. -
Can I Use A Micro On/Off Module Behind A Fan Speed Wall Control?
gregkinney replied to gregkinney's topic in ISY994
It's not a remote. Just that in-wall switch in the picture. If the in-wall switch is at full power, I can toggle the fan on and off with the micro on/off module. If I set the fan speed to low using the in-wall switch, then the micro on/off module loses its power. I didn't know if I had it wired incorrectly or if it wasn't possible. -

Unfortunately, the fan will only operate on high when I do this. I would like to use the fan on low. Here's a picture of the wall switch that came with the fan. -

I have an existing ceiling fan that is controlled by the 4 speed in-wall switch that came with the fan. Is it possible to use a micro on/off module either in the fan canopy or behind the in-wall fan speed switch? I only use the fan on low speed so my goal is to set the fan speed to low on the in-wall fan switch and then I can toggle it on and off with my phone or KPL through the micro on/off module. -
I have read a few different questions on this forum about compatible thermostats and haven't found quite the answer I'm looking for. I use iRule and ISY for home automation. I want to get new thermostats and am trying to explore my options as to what is compatible with ISY. If I have the Z-Wave ISY hub, will absolutely ANY z-wave thermostats work? I can just pick one and go? Also, I see that there is some Venstar compatibility with ISY, specifically the 1800 and 1900. What about other models, specifically the ColorTouch 7850?
