  1. Interesting. I'll give it a try... -Brian
  2. I have an Insteon Motion Sensor II device and an ISY 994i/IR Pro running 5.0.14. In the admin console I can see a battery level percentage. I'd like to get this value sent to me via an email whenever motion is tripped (along with a notification that motion was tripped of course). I've seen other posts asking similar questions but I don't seem to follow how to do it. I've tried looking at this page: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-994i_Series:EMail_and_Networking_Substitution_Variables However, I don't see anything there referring to battery status. I also tried looking at the REST options of my ISY devices here: http://192.168.2.6/rest/nodes/ But I don't see anything indicating battery status for my motion sensor there either. How can I get the battery status percentage as a network substitution variable in an email? -Brian

    Replace ISY

I just installed a Dome automatic water shutoff module that is z-wave. Other than that I don't see myself adding too many other zwave devices. But it's nice to have that option. Why do you recommend doing a factory reset?

    Replace ISY

This is great news! I thought the whole unit had to be swapped. Thanks!

    Replace ISY

I have an ISY994i/IR Pro (Insteon only) that I've been using for many years. I would like to swap it for a model with Insteon + zwave support. I would also like to keep my existing PLM. How difficult is this? Something tells me I won't be able to backup/restore since I'll be going to the zwave/Insteon model (but hopefully I'm wrong). I'm running v5.0.13A and I also have the ISY portal and ELK modules installed.
  6. You can always put a device in "do not disturb" mode to disable it from announcing callers.
  7. For anyone else looking to go down this path, here's something to consider... If using Echo Dots connected to external speakers via Bluetooth, when the Dot announces incoming calls, that announcement goes out of the Dot's internal speaker rather than the Bluetooth connected speaker. If using Echo Dots connected to external speakers via physical audio cable, when the Dot announces incoming calls, that announcement goes out of the externally connected speakers. This may or may not be a big deal for others but I thought I'd point this out.
  8. Ah, I think that will do what I want to do! I tried this tonight and noticed the Alexa group only turned off the lights (and not the ISY scenes) in the Alexa group. But, I think if I change the ISY scenes in the Alexa group from scenes to lights I think that should do the trick (according to this posting: ) It's hard to keep up with all the changes/enhancements to this Alexa craze.
  9. I looked at this briefly last night. I don't think voice profiles work this way. For starters it looks like if you want a user to have a voice profile, that user needs an Amazon account. This rules out my use case where I wanted my kids to be able to have their own voice profiles to control their lights (and I don't want them to have Amazon accounts). -Brian
  10. Are you asking me if I was able to get voice profiles to work in general (for shopping or messaging)? If so I haven't tried that yet. -Brian
  11. I was recently looking through some of the options on my Alexa mobile app. I noticed under settings that there's a place to create voice profiles. It looks like these can be used for Alexa calling and messaging along with voice shopping. This got me wondering...Is it possible to create voice profiles to use with smarthome devices? In other words, can I ask Alexa to "turn on my bedroom light" and have the service turn on the bedroom light associated with my voice profile? Of course this would be different than my daughter asking Alexa to turn on her "my bedroom light". -Brian
  12. I think this may do exactly what I'm looking for then. And it's a lot less complicated and less expensive than I thought it'd be. Thanks again! -Brian
  13. With the Echo Connect...If someone calls that isn't in your address book (associated with your Amazon account), what does the Connect announce? Does it read out the number and name displayed on the landline phone's caller ID? -Brian
  14. Cool. This is exactly the type of information I was looking for. I haven't heard of Echo Connect before. That sounds interesting. -Brian
  15. Thanks stusviews. I should have mentioned that I do have caller ID service on my line. (My cordless handsets display the caller ID information for incoming calls.) I no longer have the Spectrum TV service, though. I dropped it a while back since the family seemed more interested in Hulu/Neflifx/YouTube instead of live TV. I'm left with their phone and Internet service. I may end up calling them to see if they have anything (application) that could work. -Brian
  16. I'm looking for ideas on how to configure whole home caller ID announcements. I currently have a HTD 6 zone Lync system which is fully controllable through ISY. I also have a dedicated PC connected to one of the Lync audio inputs. Furthermore I have the ISY configured to change all the household zones to the PC audio input based on a configurable event, then put all the household zones back to the zone they were previously set to. Oh, and I have the phone line run to an input on my Elk security system (connected to ISY) so the ISY "knows" when the phone is ringing. So I feel that I'm 75% of the way there. I just need a way for the PC to announce who is calling to complete the setup. I have Spectrum home phone service so technically my home phone is VOIP. However, I don't think Spectrum supports or provides their VOIP caller ID app any longer. So I'm thinking of just getting a modem to connect to the PC and run the phone line through the modem. I just don't know where to go from there. Ideally I'd like to use something like AWS Polly to speak the caller ID information, but I'd be happy with any type of voice making the announcement. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to get me started? -Brian
  17. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Ideally everything would be controlled via the Elk. Unfortunately I didn't run wire to any place in my house that would need a water sensor so I'm left with wireless water sensors as my only option. I figure that's better than no sensors at all. So, I've been reading through this thread a few times and I think I understand how to connect the Greenfield valve up to an I/O linc. But if I wanted to hook it up to the Elk instead how would that look? Right now my Elk has a M1XIN (16 zone input expander, completely used), M1RB relay board (using 2 outputs to control garage doors) and a data buss hub for my 3 keypads. Oh, and of course the Ethernet module as well. I think I will be able to run new wire from the Elk to the location of the valve without too much hassle. -Brian
  18. I would like to add one of these to my house as well but I wanted to get some opinions first. I have an Elk M1 and an ISY 994 with the Elk module. I am thinking of purchasing some Insteon Water Leak sensors to place throughout my house to detect water leaks. So my question is, would it be better to connect the Greenfield cutoff valve to an Instion I/O module or to the Elk? (I'm thinking the logic to control the valve would come from my ISY since it has direct communication with the Insteon Water Leak sensors). If it would be better for me to connect the Grenfield to the Elk, would it make more sense to buy the Elk version of the valve? I realize there's probably different ways of doing this but I just wanted to get some feedback. -Brian
