Introducing the Insteon Thermostat add-on communications dongle
JLOB replied to TrojanHorse's topic in Coffee Shop
I know I'm missing something here. What does the dimmer module actually do? Do you trigger it regularly despite the fact that there's nothing plugged into it? JLOB -
Thanks Dennis. Not sure why I didn't get notice. Fixed now. JLOB

All of a sudden, Alexa says that the hub that device is connected to is not responding. That would be UDI Isy with the Alexa portal. If I try to go into it through the portal, I’m told that my license expired. Not at all sure what to do now, but my entire house runs an Alexa. I’m in a wheelchair with oxygen and can’t get too far without help. Any ideas would be appreciated. It was fine fifteen minute ago. There were no noticeable events in the interim. Thanks. JLOB

I've several Insteon mini-remotes programmed into my system. Two of them are programmed to just turn on/off specific lighting in a given room, using two of the keys in each row. I need to replace thise two physical remotes. I'd REALLY like to avoid re-keying all the code for the sixteen programs that need to have the only the remote "addresses" changed. Is there a way I can edit the ISY programs on a text file and copy and paste it into the program file? I can't use a keyboard as I was once able to do. I use a microphone, but often find myself spending more time correcting the errors, than I might if I just tried more slowly. Thanks for anythig anyone might offer. I have a couple of Insteon 2441th Thermostats. Both perform well, but one of them has an offset problem relative to temperature registration. If the unit is set at 70 degrees, the unit only calls for heat until the internal thermometer reaches 66 degrees. In order to achieve 70 degrees of heat, I need to have the set point at 74 degrees. Does anyone know if there’s either a manual or programmable adjustment capability? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. JLOB

Sorry, you're absolutely correct. My setup doesn't have many, if any, links that would be compromised by going back and forth. What works for e doesn't necessarily work for anyone else. Mea culpa. JLOB

From a novice, sort of. Caveat emptor. I do that frequently. I'm aging and forgetful, but I do like to code from time to time. The backup and restore are quick enough to make it convenient, and in my case absolutely necessary. My only caution would be to NOT unintentionally mix up the old and new files. I always use "old" and "new" in the naming, and store them on separate devices. Good luck. JLOB

Thanks. That willl do the trick. JLOB

In retrospect I should have spent a good deal more time investigating forum member experiences with this device, and less time culling cheap used units from eBay. This is a nit, and not worth much of anyone's time unless you, as I, are just the curious sort. My first go round with this thermostat has been mostly painless. (It's been a week - give it time!) I notice that the wall unit will display a temp value of 76 and the app in both the phone and the tablet report 74.5. Does anyone know if it's possible to tweak the 2441 to correct the anomaly? ISY 994I reports the same temp as the phones and tablets. (The other side of this particular coin is, "Which value is correct?" Let's leave that for another day. Thanks. JLOB ps: Insteon is silent on this as far as I can determine.

Is this "Show Devices Link Table" an Insteon command? I don't have an Insteon controller. I just have the 994I! Thanks. JLOB

Neither of these options seems to do what you guys suggest. Possibly I have a bad switch. More probably, I don't know what I'm doing any longer. Thanks. JLOB

I, apparently against better judgement, bought a "new, in box" Insteon 2477D switch. Everything was there, despite the fact that the box had been opened and torn, with the exception of a little label called "unique Insteon address"! Since I've never encountered this situation before, I bow before the experts and humbly ask... "Is there a way to determine the address of an Insteon 2477D switch if the label is missing? I'm quite prepared to learn that there is not. Thanks for listening. JLOB

Thanks. I’m not at all certain that I fully understand how Alexa is going to pass the x% to the ISY for processing, but I’ll code on, in the belief that all will be revealed when my lights work as hoped. JLOB

We used Alexa through the UDI portal for our ISY 994 I Pro. I have a guest room with two bed lamps and two dresser lamps. The dresser lamps share an Insteon dimmer, and the bed lamps each have their own. Each device in the room can be individually controlled to any bright or dim level by telling Alexa to turn on (light) to x%. Is it possible to group these devices together such that the entire room could be controlled at once? I set up a scene which works, but only for on/off. I’d like to be able to vary the intensity of the light at will. Thanks for any input you might provide. I once new how to produce a text version of my entire ISY program library. I use to do it on a regular basis for backup and reference. Age as a funny way of deleting knowledge byte by byte. Can someone refresh my memory? Thanks. JLOB

I'm OK now. It took me many years to migrate all the way up to Excel 2016. I can't backslide now! Thanks. JLOB

Well that got me started in the right direction. I never saw (or see) Macro warnings since I use macros all the time and have the security warning tuned off. I DID find a setting that looked like it might have a bearing, and now I see the detail in an Excel sheet (UDI-Report) just as I did before, but now I get an additional simultaneous sheet (UDI.xls) which has the greyed out area that I mentioned before. It’s no problem to ignore the extraneous sheet. I’ll go look at the other system to see what I’ve got fr security levels on those Excel installs. Thanks for getting me to where I needed to be. JLOB

Not sure where to look for that button, but I don't see it anywhere, nor do I recall ever seeing it. Is it a an Excel button, since that's where I end up? Thanks for the prompt response. JLOB

Good Day, I no longer get a good link to Excel when I try to see the ISY log from my ISY994I. Excel launches, but with a partially shaded area and no data. I also no longer see the option box that allows me to see the report ion color. I have three other systems in my home and have no on any of those. Has anyone ever experienced this behavior before? If so, do you have any words of wisdom? Thanks. JLOB

To set the record straight, I didn't write those programs. That was the work of some much more exalted than I. I just reap the benefit! JLOB

I've been using these subroutines for quite a while. They'll definitely solve your problem. Drawback might be the space it takes up on ISY, and the fact that you might need to manually reset the data if you need to restore ISY to an earlier time. https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i_Generic_Calendar_Using_Programs_and_Variables

Larry, After playing around with the carets and stuff, I got where I wanted by accident. I then went back and got there on purpose. Hopefully I'll remember this the next time its needed! Thanks. JLOB
-
I'm not sure how to achieve that coding in my ISY program. Can you elaborate? Thanks. JLOB
-
THAT'S EXACTLY what I needed to know. Thanks. My first small test worked well. Now I need to learn how to extract the data from the device. I did (not sure how I did it) see the temperature, the battery level, and the luminance all together once in the log. I also saw the luminance and the temperature with no battery level, and again the luminance by itself. I looked at your examples of data collection, but I'm still a little in the dark. I will keep trying however. Thanks again. JLOB
