Power cycle function

I see the gui has an "on", "off", "fast on" and "fast off". It would be nice to have some kind of power cycle button to turn a device off, delay for some time, then turn it on. I have the router and remote pc as a controlled devices, and sometimes either needs a power-cycle (not just a soft reboot) to get it working properly, but using "off" will disable further remote communication to turn it back "on".

Maybe there is already a way to accomplish this through command line or other?

Thanks.

How exactly are you controlling those devices? Are you using applianclincs? If so, you can certainly do what you want as the appliancelinc never loses power and communication. For the router and Of, wait 10 secs, and On would suffice. In the case of the PC you would need to do an Off, wait 10 seconds, On, then issue a WOL command over the network to wake up the PC assuming it is configured for WakeOnLan.

If you are looking for an Admin Console button that power cycles the specific device that is not possible with Insteon. There is no Insteon command to direct a device to power down. Anything along that line I suggest you posting a Product Request on the Smarthome forum. A power cycle was needed on some older devices to have changes take effect. Changes in the way options are set make that power cycle no longer needed. The problem with that type of command there would be no way to command the device to turn back On. I guess it could be a 'power cycle' command but once power is removed from the device it could not perform any action past shutting down because it has no power. Also a device may need a power cycle because it is locked up. If that was the case it would not respond to any command.

I really do not think a programmatic device power cycle is practical.

Check out your BIOS settings - there might be a setting for what to

do after a power outage. When the juice returns , turn on if the computer

was powered up when the outage occurred. But stay off if the computer

was turned off when the outage occurred. Then just kill the juice to the

computer with an outletlinc.

Something like a router just kill the juice with an outletlinc then wait

a few seconds then command the outletlinc back on.

If the OS is Linux then a shutdown -r now will produce an orderly restart

as opposed to rudely killing the juice with an outletlinc.

My equipment is on a UPS which makes it harder to kill the juice

so I use a cron job to do a nice restart once in awhile.
