Finding Device ID through ISY99i

Featured Replies

Hello,

Probably a dumb question but here goes. I have a few older insteon toggle switches which do not have their sticker with their device identification number. I have one installed, is there an easy way for me to find the device ID through the ISY99i? Obviously, I would like identify the switch so that I can add it to scenes and control remotely.

Thank you!

It is easy. Put the switches into linking mode locally and go to the ISY admin console and click on Link Management > Start Linking. Once the ISY is done linking the devices they will show up in the device tree as their respective addresses. As I recall you can put all the devices you need to link in link mode and then hit Start Linking, as long as you can put them all in linking mode before they time out. You may have to find/read the instructions for your specific devices to find out how to link them and what the timeout is.

The technique is good. Only change is click Start Linking first. This puts the PLM into linking mode (LED on PLM is blinking) and displays a Start Linking popup with a Finish button at the bottom of the popup. Put each ToggleLinc into linking mode which will display the Insteon address in the popup window. Click the Finish button to add the ToggleLinc(s) to the ISY.

Are you certain these are Insteon devices and not X10?

Sorry about that...its been a long time since I have used Start Linking. I am glad you caught that Lee, thanks!

Also one last thing to add, it would be a good idea to factory rest each switch before linking to the ISY just to be sure any previous links are gone.

Hi Tim,

Thank you. It worked and as you mentioned, it was easy. :D

I was able to figure out how to adjust the approach as LeeG mentions below. Thanks LeeG!

Good thought. I hope I am clean as I am sure that switch was on my system previously. If not, I'll delete, reset and re-add.

Many users factory reset new modules also.

Not too common but we have seen reports of new modules. Shipping with test Insteon and X10 addresses in them from the factory.
