Variable brightness

I am running 2.6.4 in an ISY-99. I see that the keypadlinc has a setting for variable brightness. And I see that the Smarthome site has info about this as well.

I have tried changing the brightness and do not see it working.

Is this a feature that has yet to be implemented? Or do I have a problem with my keypad?

I have only tried this on one of my keypads, and it is one that I just had to restore, so not sure what to expect out of it.

Clark,

The feature is implemented within the ISY. It may or may not be implemented on your KPL depending on the version.

KPL Revision

V1.0 to V1.4 : Not implemented.

V1.55 to V1.6 : Implemented, but requires an "Air Gap" of the KPL to register.

V1.65 : Fully implemented, backlight is completely controllable with the ISY.

I do not have a V1.5 KPL, it may respond the same as the V1.55-V1.6 units. I suspect that it does, but don't have first hand experience.

Hope that helps,

IM

One of mine reports at v.2c and the other reports as v.31. This feature does not work on either of them. I had tried the one in my master bedroom (v.31 relay keypad) last night. I just tried the one in my family room (v.2c dimming keypad) and it didn't work there either.

On both keypads, when I check the brightness level the first time, it reports as 63. Smarthome literature shows 32 available levels. I try a level of 10 so that I should be well within the value capable. I do this only to the On/Off button. I see that the brightness can be set on each button. Should I try each button to the same level?

I have not tried setting it locally on the switch yet.

I thought it was pretty well established that Smarthome had not implemented KPL LED brightness yet, even though it's in the technical documents they provide to developers (like UD). http://forum.universal-devices.com/viewtopic.php?t=983&highlight=led+brightness

Or are we talking apples and oranges?

ResIpsa,

I believe I'm talking "apples and apples".

I have one (one) V1.65 KPL that I can program the backlight level with the ISY (no intervention required).

I have 3 V1.6 KPL's that will accept the backlight programming "after a 10 Sec air gap".

Please note that the V1.65's weren't plentiful when I purchased mine (SH is purging stock). The V1.65 that I received was one unit in an order of four (2 - 6 button, 2- button). I purchased the KPl's on 4/8/08. The V1.65 was a 6 button unit. I have no guess as to when "only V1.65's" are in stock.
