Issue with I/O Linc (with Somfy Dry Interface), new ISY994i

Hello All,

I'm new to the Home Automation. This Christmas I've been given an ISY-994i Pro and several Insteon devices(long waited gift from Santa) :).

I've setup the ISY-994i and trying to add my first device (which I pick up to be) IO Linc with Somfy Dry Interface (combo kit).

This is what I've done (and failed to add to ISY):

  1. [*:1d12tx6j] Followed instructions in the Quick-Start Guide and programmed the Somfy unit (connected to the be recognized by the drapes motors)
[*:1d12tx6j] Connected the green wire to IO Linc and plugged it in the same outlet as the PLM (came with ISY)
[*:1d12tx6j] ISY Admin Console -> Link Management -> Start Linking
[*:1d12tx6j] Pressed set button in IO Link until it beeped and led started flashing
[*:1d12tx6j] Selected "Add devices found in links and keep existing links" (Ok to warning dialog about time)
[*:1d12tx6j] Got the following in the "Event Viewer":
Sun 01/05/2014 11:33:18 AM : Start Insteon Device Linking Mode
Sun 01/05/2014 11:33:18 AM : [LNK-BGN ] 02 64 01 00 06

Sun 01/05/2014 11:33:29 AM : [All ] Writing 0 bytes to devices

[*:1d12tx6j] Failed!
[*:1d12tx6j] Waited for 5 mins

[*:1d12tx6j] Failed Again!

Just to give the full picture:

I've tried this on different outlet at the beginning without connecting green wire - the same result, then, after reading this forum I've repeated on the same outlet with PLM - the same result... then I connected the green wire and repeated on the same outlet with PLM - the same result...

It looks like, Somfy module by itself (when powered without green wire) is working so far...

But, I cannot add it to the ISY at all...

This is my first attempt with Home Automation and ISY, and even that I red a lot I'm still not sure I am doing it right...

Please, help!

Thank you,

Renat the Newbie

The Insteon address of the I/O Linc is not responding. There are outbound messages (02 62) but no inbound messages (02 50) from the device.

Remove all the wires from the Somfy and try adding without any attachments to the I/O Linc. Leave the New INSTEON Device Device Type field set to the default Auto Discover.

Is the LED on the side of the I/O Linc On?

Are there other electronic devices powered from the same circuit?

Try another Insteon device also plugged into the PLM plug point.

I've found another IOLinc (in the Garage Door opener kit) and tried it - the same results:

The same results with specifying "Device Type" as "IOLinc" or doing "Auto Discover"....

It can be that the 2 different IOLink Devices are broken, but less unlikely than one PLM or ISY, cannot it?

Is it still worth to try it without Somfy wires?

Is the LED on the side of the I/O Linc On?
As I said the LED started flashing after 2-3 sec (and the beep) and continue flashing all the way while I'm trying and much longer after... (until second beep).

Are there other electronic devices powered from the same circuit?
There is Philips filtered 6 outlet extension plugged at the same outlet as the PLM and IOLinc (all 3 are plugged into not-filtered 3 outlet). Like this: =wall outlet=> 3 outlets devider => 1-PLM, 2-IOLinc, 3-extention with 6 outlets.

All other devices I have is Insteon Outlets, Dimmers and Cameras... (this supposed to be a started kit for hour house: drapes, security cameras, dimmers and outlets)... Nothing to plug-in (wireless or hard wired only)...

The ISY is okay as it is sending and receiving commands from the PLM. The PLM is communicating with the ISY over the serial interface. I think it likely there is something on the powerline that is interfering with Insteon communication. The filtered outlets should not be used with the PLM and the I/O Lincs. Unplug everything except ISY, PLM and I/O Linc and do not use filtered outlets.

Thank you, LeeG!

That was the issue!

Even that PLM and IOLinc connected through unfiltered outlets, the only presents of them hides the IOLinc from PLM/ISY!

I've tried to connect filtered outlet to another wall outlet (not the same as PLM) and it is working with this setup (I guess the distance from filter is making a big difference).

Unfortunately, I've plugged in the IOLinc into wall outlet in my bedroom (where the drapes are) and now I'm back to the same problem: PLM/ISY doesn't see it...

I've unplugged all filters in the office (where my PLM/ISY are) and in the bedroom, but there is still filtered outlets in the family room...

Not, sure if they can put an big interference to the signal...

But, if I have to remove all filtered outlets, than how do I protect the TV/VIDEO/AUDIO/Computers/Modems/Network Routers from the lighting (I've got it strike in my house once already and log half of my home network equipment)?

So, I guess I am back to the beginning:

- How to automate the house if I cannot use the filtered outlets at all (can I?)

- If I can, then why IOLinc doesn't work in my bedroom?

Thank you for your help!

Sincerely,

Renat the Newbie :)

The filtered outlets do a good job of taking what looks to be noise/etc off the powerline. Unfortunately the Insteon signal looks like noise to these guys. I would try FilterLincs between the filtering equipment and the powerline. Or put a good surge suppressor at the power panel and eliminate all the individual filtering devices. I don't have one so cannot offer any suggestions. I do use FilterLincs where I have various UPS devices and they work well for that purpose.

Thank you, LeeG!

It looks like it would work for me!

One other question, what if I will use Access Point (http://www.smarthome.com/2443/Access-Po ... and/p.aspx) in the each room so they can bypass the different phases and filter issues?

Will it work for the rooms where there is no filters (by may be different phases)?

BTW, may be this is why my "office" doesn't see "bedroom", doesn't it?
