Reusing old PLM.

I plan to get a new ISY-994i since there's a Smarthome coupon out there and my current ISY-26 system is degenerating. Can I reuse the old PLM? 2412S 3307Firm52 Rev 4.2. or would replacing it be a better option. One issue I am having is Controlincs will not send on/off commands when programmed by ISY, ISY will not show the state, but they work fine when tap-linked. So I'm wondering if I have an ISY problem or a PLM problem rather than a Controlinc problem. Will the old PLM even work with I2CS, would a new one be faster to write links because of I2CS?

Although I currently have no use for Insteon RF, I wonder if the thing to do would be to just get a remote to clip to my sun visor rather than getting an EZX10RF to work with the Homelink in my car, considering the problems reported with them and ISY.

A PLM with v.52 firmware is very old. I think the latest 2413S has v.9B. I would get a new 2413S PLM (only one being sold). The 2413 does not provide power to the ISY because the 2413 is Dual Band. You will need an external power supply to power the 994i.

Cannot say whether the ControLincs will work better without knowing why they are not working now.

The ISY994i may come with a external power supply in the box.

Mine did.

I am not sure if the 2412S with v.52 firmware. Was the older 417 link database or the >2000 link database. The larger database had issues with more then 800 links if my aging memory is correct.

So next question:

How do I handle the transition. Do I need to decommission the old ISY and PLM immediately, or can the two coexist until I get all the devices and programs added to the new unit?

Do not run the two ISYs at the same time. Assuming the ISY-26 backup will install on a 994i, the PLM address will have to be changed in all the devices. As that happens the old ISY will no longer be operational.

I have questioned the ability of move something as old as an ISY-26 backup file into today's world. UDI response was that they try and keep the ability to role the old files into the latest hardware; depends on the firmware levels which were not identified.
