DSC and Rasberry Pi

Hi guys I'm only about 5 weeks into this new hobby of automation and my wife thinks im crazy but I am now looking to intergrate my DSC house alarm with my isy-994i I just ordered an EVL-3 and a raspberry pi to run i_o guys DSC link on it because I do not want to leave one of my computers on all of the time anyway I just wanted to see how many of you guys that are doing the same thing and how it had been working for you and if you have any good advise. I have been reading quite a bit about the integration and i'll be honest it sounds a little overhwhelming for me because I am new to all of this but that's half the reason I now want to try it because it sounds like a good challenge I have never programmed anything before 5 weeks ago and never heard of a rasberry pi before. Thank you

I've got my DSC 1555 with EVL3 set up with io_guy's app on my Raspberry Pi. Works great - very reliable and I don't think about it much except for the occasional notification from the ISY when it loses it's connection to the RPi (always due to something I did, like rebooting my router). I did have an issue with getting alerted with a loss of connectivity every night at 3am when the ISY query program ran, I guess that would keep the ISY busy enough to miss the heartbeat. But I shut that query program off and haven't missed it.

If you have a DSC and an ISY I definitely recommend it! The hardest part is getting the RPi set up correctly with the right mono packages, but Google told me everything I needed to know. :)

Thanks io_guy for the great work!

Is this true? Does the Query program cause network disconnections? Maybe that's why I cannot get my WF2IR (Global Cache device) to maintain connection over night. ???!!! :(

No. I believe that the 3am query or any other large batch of Insteon traffic can cause the ISY to queue up other activities like network tasks until higher priority tasks are serviced.
