mschwab Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I'm trying to replace a 12-year old Stargate controller, which did have voice announcement. When I search here or on SmartHome, all I see is the ELK system. Is there any way to add voice announcements to the ISY without paying $1000 for an ELK system?
kevkmartin Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 You can set up a web server, and trigger voice announcements via network resources.
mschwab Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 You can set up a web server, and trigger voice announcements via network resources. Huh, OK. That would be two new things to learn, then. But doesn't a "web server" mean a PC, one that has to be up and running reliably all the time? I thought that was why we buy an non-PC controller like the ISY, so we don't have to depend on a PC. I was looking for something more stand-alone, like the ISY itself.
Xathros Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 This could be done with a low power Linux computer like the RaspberryPi. That would, however, be another thing to learn too. I haven't tried to make mi Pi speak yet but it is on my list of things to do when I have some extra round to-its. -Xathros
