Voice control?

Featured Replies

I love my ISY and use it not only to control my Insteon devices but also all of my IR equipment using a WIFI-IR bridge. That said, the only killer feature missing for me is voice control. I was considering Castle OS for this functionality, however it doesn't support sending http get commands. Has anyone had any success tying a Microsoft Kinect microphone array into an ISY? This would be the best of both worlds for me...

Thank you!

You can use your phone for that. If you have Android you can use MobiLinc with Tasker, or Tasker alone using REST commands. If you have an Iphone you can use the newly released version of Mobilinc for iOS with the voice plugin.

I've been using the iOS version of MobiLinc for years, and I love it. I recently installed the new voice plug-in, however it's just not practical unless you're holding the device or within hands reach of it. My objective, is to be just about anywhere in my home and be able to use voice commands without the need to be holding or near another device.

I get you. But for anything along the lines of CastleOS/Kinect, you would need to have one in every room in the house. That would cost a small fortune.

Personally I am looking forward to when Smartwatches will be mature enough to be able to accept voice commands & work in conjunction with Tasker on an Android phone. Or maybe install Tasker directly on the watch on those watches running full Android. That would be great. I think the day this will be possible is not that far away. Perhaps its already possible now with one of the smartwatches released lately.

A Kinect can be had for $79 which I think is quite reasonable. The bigger issue to me is wiring...
