luken001 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I have two Insteon switches that have repeatedly locked - requiring a factory reset to recover them. Both are on a circuit that also includes a large exhaust fan (one controls this exhaust fan, the other controls the shower light). I have many other Insteon switches in the house - never a problem from them. Any thoughts on why these two are hanging up and how to correct?
Brian H Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Power line noise from the fan when turning Off and On. Maybe the problem. Some users have added a Snubber across the problem fan and it has helped. I don't have the part number or value of the snubber that have been used. I hope others may have added information for you. What type of lights are the problem ones?
luken001 Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 The switch that is going bad is connected to an LED can light in the shower. I was guessing it was related to either noise from the fan or some sort of power change when the fan starts / stops. I did notice the last time when I turned off the exhaust fan, the 6-button switch acted funny (it is on a different circuit - button A controls the exhaust fan, button B controls the shower light) I'll see if I can find an in-line filter to use. Does anyone have any recommendations?
ELA Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Hello Luken, Here is one I have used in the past: http://www.newark.com/roxburgh/xe1201/surge-suppressor/dp/01M9475 Ideally you would add this across the fan motor.
Brian H Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I have not see the nice small Leviton filters anymore and no other brand seems to make one. The snubber maybe what you need. It should keep the noise spikes from getting back onto the power lines.
