"All Lights Off" scene messes up keypad toggle

I haven't yet received my ISY994i, but this situation is one of the reasons why I decided to get an ISY994i, yet I don't really know if ISY994i can solve it either.

Using Insteon basic linking (no controller), I created a scene to toggle the bedroom light on and off (using on/off device). On the 8 scene mini remote, this is literally a toggle. One press on, another press off.

Then I created a second scene which turns all lights off, including the bedroom light.

The problem is that if I use the "all lights off" scene to turn off the bedroom light, next time I want to turn bedroom light on, I have to press the toggle button twice, once to turn it "off" (since it doesn't know the bedroom light was already off) and another time to turn it on.

This isn't nice. If the light is already off, regardless of how (scene toggle button, all lights off, or local pushbutton) I want one push of the mini remote button to turn it on. I can see the light is off, and I want it on. I don't want to have to think about *why* it is off--what was done previously.

Can ISY994i do this, and if so, how?

I have no mini remote, and am unfamiliar with how it works and am getting too lazy to check the manual. I assume you have looked and confirmed that the buttons cannot be put into non-toggle mode?

Regardless, I think you will find the ISY can solve this problem. My initial suspicion would be to use a program that looks something like:

if

control mini remote button it switched on

or control mini remote button is switched off

then

turn off "all lights off" scene

else

nothing

I know that the Mini Remote can be switched from 8 scene toggle mode to 4 scene non-toggle mode. However that dedicates all 8 keys to just 4 scenes. I want to keep the 8 scene mode, but change the toggling to be aware of current status.

I don't think your suggested fix does what I want, which is to make the toggling of bedroom light scene aware of current light status.

The Mini Remote does not have the capability to change individual button status. There is nothing available with Mini Remote that allows a button "next command issued" to be changed. An ISY Program can be written to trigger based on either command (or both) and turn a device/Scene On/Off but the Mini Remote LED will be out of sync with the action performed by the ISY Program.

Having multiple Mini Remote buttons affect the same device will always result in either pressing a button multiple times or the Mini Remote LED being out of sync with the action performed by an ISY Program. The Mini Remote is just too limited in function to have the kind of button control possible with a KeypadLinc.

Great info (if not entirely what I wanted to hear). I guess I would rather live with LED being out-of-sync than having to press button twice though, and it sounds like ISY gives me a way to do that.

I might also convert to 4 scene, given that the "on" and "off" for each scene are can be programs and not static scenes. For example, I wouldn't want the counterpart to "all lights off" to necessarily be "all lights on". When I say lights, it's not really all lights either, just a quick way of shutting everything off except for things that need to be left alone (like the outdoor security lights).
