EZIO2x4

Is it just me or is the EZIO2x4 a pain in the *** to configure? I can't seem to get ISY to recognize the input 1 status. I can read the status with the SimpleHomeNet utility and it responds correctly. I have 12VAC going to the input and the utility shows off when the voltage is 0 and on when at 12 volts which is exactly what I want. Now I just need to get ISY to read that status.

Sorry, I was not correct in my earlier statement. It is wired per the EZIO instructions with +5 going to the I1+ and a relay closure connects GND to I1-. It had been so long since I wired this thing I forgot what I had done. The 12VAC actually closes a relay which is connected to the EZIO.

I do notice something that seems a bit odd. When I measure the voltage across I1+ and I1- with the relay closed I see around 6 VDC which is fine. When the relay is opened I see -16 VDC across these terminals. I would have thought the voltage would be 0. Still I can get the Utility program to read the input correctly but ISY will not read the status at all.

Okay. The EZIO2X4 has no passthru outlet. It looks like the face of a 2413 PLM. Your running ISY 4.2.1.

If either of these is not accurate please correct.

Right click on the first EZIO2X4 relay which is the first node. Select Diagnostics | Show Device Links Table. Post the displayed link table.

It now shows 5 links, 4 of which look fine and the 5th which is the same one I sent previously. However, no change in the status of I1 shows up in ISY. We know it is communicating with ISY or otherwise I could not have restored the device. I guess the next step is a factory reset and set it up again, right?

Did you then do a compare to see if they matched what your ISY information is?

The 00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00 Is the first unused link memory address not used and is normal.

A compare should show it as ignored when compared to the ISY Link Table for the EZIO2x4

I set the EZIO back to factory defaults, removed it from ISY and added it back. I connected directly to the EZIO and programmed the inputs and outputs and now I can query the device and see the status change on I1. Therefore it appears the input is turning on as it should. Now the next problem is how to get an Insteon device to turn on based on the input I1 turning on.

I wrote a quick program:

If control EZIO - 9 is switched on

then

set some light on

I don't know how much simpler this could be. The light refuses to turn on. I must be missing something terribly simply here. This seems like a no-brainer. I've tested the then statement and it executes as it should - just not when I1 is switched on.

Is there some sort of CMD modification needed in the EZIO input section of the utility program?

I used the Simplehomenet Utility and programmed the output relays for momentary on which is what I need in this case. I set the debounce inputs, set timers in seconds, broadcast status changes and enable output timers. I left the input settings as default and didn't check the actuate output or ignore on to off. Changes were written and saved.

Turn Off the Broadcast change. That would send Broadcast messages which the ISY is not looking for. Not sure that will resolve the problem as I think once a link is established that overrides the Broadcast message option. Worth getting rid of Broadcast option as the ISY never processes Broadcast messages.

The Broadcast option will not resolve the missing state messages. The links that the ISY establishes will override that option. Either the PLM link database has become full such that the Responder link records could not be written into the PLM or the EZIO2X4 firmware is expecting the links in the EZIO2X4 to be written other than at 1FFF.

For the PLM either look at the actual links in the PLM for the required Responder link records for the EZIO2X4 or simply do a File | Restore Modem (PLM) to reload the PLM link database. The Restore Modem takes a few minutes which is normally must faster than looking at all the PLM records. the Restore Modem (PLM) will compress out duplicate and no longer used link records.

For the EZIO2X4 it is more difficult to verify where the device is expecting the link records. The easiest test is to Set button link a Controller to one of the EZIO2X4 relays. Then use the Show Device Links Table to see if that Set button link was added to the end of those written by the ISY. If not there than use the Show Device Links Table to display the link record at 0FF8. The EZIO2X4 firmware may have been reflashed to a level that expects the link records to start at 0FF8.

I really appreciate all the assistance offered here but I'm growing very tired of fooling with this device. I'll try to restore the PLM and if that doesn't work Smarthome can have it back and I'll wait for a solution that works without having to jump through hoops.

  • 2 weeks later...

Turns out the device was working fine. It was my usage of it that caused the issue. I was trying to use the relay 1 (timed at 2 seconds) at virtually the same time as input 1 and this apparently can't be done. Apparently the sending signal (relay) was inteferring with the input 1 Insteon command being transmitted.

Just wanted to let users know the device wasn't at fault although I don't really understand why I can't do what I was attempting.
