Jason Miller Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 We bought out house about two years ago and the previous owner had a Vivint home security system. A series of audible door and window alarms, smoke detectors, etc. Since, I've installed the ISY device and lots of insteon switches, etc. Could I use the door sensors/windows/smoke detector within the ISY device? If so, any thoughts? I'm told they are Z-Wave.
SteveL Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Jam583, Based on Vivint's own statement about their products they say they are fully compatible with all Zwave products which should make them compatible with the 994i. Since we are still adding more and more support to our system with every update there may be various levels of support with some devices. If you do end up integrating your devices with the ISY we would love to hear how it went.
Jason Miller Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 Thanks for the note. I don't even know where to begin on how to get the ISY to recognize them.
PurdueGuy Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Your title mentions an ISY99i? The Z-Wave add-on goes inside a ISY994i.
Jason Miller Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Your title mentions an ISY99i? The Z-Wave add-on goes inside a ISY994i. Yes, I have an ISY99i. Currently, I only use Insteon products and new to this. I don't know how I woiuld program the Vivinit ZWave items. They also still talk to the security thing on the wall, but that is not activated with the alarm company.

You'll need to upgrade to a ISY994i and then add the z-wave module. That might get quite expensive for something you don't know will work afterwards though.
Jason Miller Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Yea .. probably would be cheaper to just buy Insteon stuff.
PurdueGuy Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Also, Insteon is probably more reliable. I hated my Z-Wave door sensors. If you want a full security system, I'd recommend going that route right away, even if it isn't monitored by a service to start.
MWareman Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Yea .. probably would be cheaper to just buy Insteon stuff. Assuming you can find stuff that still works with the 3.x firmware that the ISY99i is capped at. Many newer devices won't work with the older firmware.
