haroldunger Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I'm not at my home and I would like to confirm that the lights are going on and off according to the ISY programs. I'm not sure if the PLM is working properly and actually relaying the instructions to the various switches throughout the house. How do I confirm that the switches are receiving the commands? I believe that the log merely shows the instructions that were issued by the ISY.
LeeG Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Turn a device On and issue a Query through the Admin Console. The current status is displayed. If the current status went from Off to On when device was turned On and Query result is showing the device On the Insteon network is functional.
haroldunger Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 Thank you. Now the ISY cannot see any of the devices. The PLM is toast.
Brian H Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 In the Tools Tab Diagnostics PLM Info/Status does it show connected? We have seen some PLM failure posts here and in the Smarthome Forums. I am not sure if there where any PLM failure messages on the new Insteon Forums yet. Yes there is now an Insteon Forum that does not seem to be well advertised. http://forum.insteon.com/ My 2413S failed in two years and three months. Just over the warranty period. Mine would start to work again if I let it cool off for awhile. I got a new one in the last 20% off sale but have possibly fixed the old ones power supply. Time will tell as I just have it idling with power applied and measuring the power supplies output.
haroldunger Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 Everyone of my switches was unable to communicate with the ISY even though the ISY was able to read the PLM address. So, I rebooted the ISY remotely and it started in safe mode. The ISY is now unable to read the PLM address. And, yes, the PLM was running hot. I disconnected it about six weeks ago and let it cool down. Then I reset and restored it. It started to die last week. I have ordered a new PLM but wouldn't mind fixing the old one. Can you share your fix? Thanks.
Techman Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 If the ISY starts up in safe mode after a reboot it means that the ISY is unable to communicate with the PLM. Sounds like your PLM took a trip South.
Brian H Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 If you are replacing an older 2412S. Remember the 2413S does not supply power to the ISY controller and the external one has to be purchased.
haroldunger Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 It's a 2413s. And, it is now on back order.
PurdueGuy Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 If you use Amazon, they have them in stock. It says there are 19 left. http://amzn.com/B002X8W4SI
haroldunger Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Yes, I know. I'm happy to wait since I am hoping that the newest units will have better power supplies and, therefore, last longer. Probably more of a wish than reality...
