Question about supported products

Hi Guys,

I just bought a commercial building and am planning on making all lighting and such automated. I plan to use the isy994 z and after reading a little, it seems it is supported by both zigbee and insteon. Had two questions i was hoping you guys can help me out with.

1. Are all products supported by the isy994 that are on this page even though the manufacturer of the product is by - lets say honeywell? http://www.zigbee.org/Products/ByStanda ... dards.aspx

2. I know that i need a modem to go with the isy994 and after reading a little, it seems the maximum distance that it can reach is about 50 feet. This building covers about 500 feet distance. Is there some kind of extender to it? How would i go about getting the entire building connected?

Thanks in advance,

The ISY only supports energy management and TSTATs with Zjgbee along with Insteon.

You're best served going with Z-Wave / Insteon at this point in time.

I don't get it. The ISY can control lighting with insteon right? I like the ISY because i can program any button on an insteon keypad to do whatever i want in terms of lighting. The only two problems i came across was 1. i need to find some kind of a repeater because the modem has such a short distance & 2. insteon dimmers cannot control fluorescent lighting. Do i have this all wrong?

Thanks

Hello Richardv24,

I was simply addressing your question about Zigbee. You can have either Zigbee / Insteon, or Z-Wave / Insteon. Zigbee via the ISY only supports energy management and some TSTATS. It does not support Zigbee HA (Home Automation) products due to the different protocols used by various manufactures.

Insteon Dimmers can't control Fluorescent Lighting as you know.

The relay modules should be able to turn them On and Off. Provided there isn't too much power line noise in your commercial building.

There is a Insteon Fluorescent Dimmer module. Designed to use the 0-10 Volt control voltage some of the commercial ballasts can be used with.

Any Dual Band Module should pass the Insteon commands to each other. With RF and Power Line signals. Power line noise and RF distances again maybe a factor.

Fifty feet? That maybe the RF distance but the power line signals should go much farther than fifty feet. Unless you have extreme power line noise or signal absorbers [signal Suckers}.

If the building is three phase. You will have to have at least one dual band module that has passed the communications tests with a module on the other phases. Access Points {now called Range Extenders} seem to have the best communications results.
