GaryL Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I'm having difficulty linking my EZFlora irrigation controller to my new ISY-99i with 2413S PLM. The EZFlora worked fine for two years with a SmartLinc 2412N, but the 2412N died. I am getting a "Cannot Determine Insteon Engine" message when I try to directly add the device via the "Link Management/New Insteon Device" menu. I've seen similar problems posted but haven't found a solution that works for me. I have all three devices plugged into the same outlet, and I've atttempted a factory reset" (not positive it worked) on the EZFlora unit. The PLM responds to a "Start linking" command from the ISY by blinking the LED, which I think indicates that those two devices are talking. I haven't been able to get the EZFlora to respond at all. Here is a level-3 trace when trying to add the device: Sun 06/22/2014 02:22:15 PM : [1d 77 62 ] Added to list of devices to link to ISY Sun 06/22/2014 02:22:15 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1D 77 62 0F 0D 00 Sun 06/22/2014 02:22:15 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1D.77.62 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Sun 06/22/2014 02:22:24 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1D 77 62 0F 0D 00 Sun 06/22/2014 02:22:24 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1D.77.62 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Sun 06/22/2014 02:22:33 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1D 77 62 0F 0D 00 Sun 06/22/2014 02:22:33 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1D.77.62 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Sun 06/22/2014 02:22:37 PM : [1D 77 62 0 ] Failed to add device, reason 3 Sun 06/22/2014 02:22:37 PM : [All ] Writing 0 bytes to devices I would appreciate any suggestions to troubleshoot this. Thanks!
LeeG Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 The PLM blinking in response to a Start Linking does not mean the devices are talking to each other. Suggest using New INSTEON Device. Enter Insteon address of EZFlora, Name of choice and the default Auto Discover. The event trace indicates the ISY/PLM is not getting any response from the EZFlora (no 02 50 response). Is that the old 99i that is past End Of Life status or a 994i?
GaryL Posted June 22, 2014 Author Posted June 22, 2014 Thanks for the quick response, LeeG. My unit is the ISY-994i, sorry I wasn't specific. The trace I posted was when I attempted to use the New Insteon Device command as you described. BTW, I was successful in linking another Insteon device to the ISU - an IOLinc 2450 low-voltage controller.
LeeG Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Suggest moving the EZFlora near the PLM and repeating New INSTEON Device
GaryL Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 ISY-994i, PLM, and EZFlora are currently plugged into the same outlet.
LeeG Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 If the event trace was taken of this configuration the EZFlora is not responding to commands. Try another factory reset. Unplug EZFlora for a full minute. Press and hold in Set button. Plug in EZFlora while holding Set button in for a full 10 seconds. Then try the New INSTEON Device again with the event trace running at LEVEL 3. Post the trace of the New INSTEON Device after factory reset.
GaryL Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 Tried factory reset again - 1 minute + powered off, 10 seconds+ with set button held while plugging back in. I'm not sure how the EZFlora is supposed to react to a factory reset - what it did was go from bright LED Flashes with the set button held back to dim LED flashes when I released it. That's how it reacts any time I hold and then release the set button. Result of the New Insteon Device was the same. Here's the trace: Sun 06/22/2014 09:21:25 PM : [1D 77 62 ] Added to list of devices to link to ISY Sun 06/22/2014 09:21:25 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1D 77 62 0F 0D 00 Sun 06/22/2014 09:21:25 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1D.77.62 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Sun 06/22/2014 09:21:34 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1D 77 62 0F 0D 00 Sun 06/22/2014 09:21:34 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1D.77.62 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Sun 06/22/2014 09:21:43 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1D 77 62 0F 0D 00 Sun 06/22/2014 09:21:43 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1D.77.62 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Sun 06/22/2014 09:21:47 PM : [1D 77 62 0 ] Failed to add device, reason 3 Sun 06/22/2014 09:21:47 PM : [All ] Writing 0 bytes to devices Thanks for looking at this!
LeeG Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 No change, Insteon address 1D 77 62 did not respond to any of the three commands sent to it. Is the power strip supplying the PLM and EZFlora a noise/surge suppressor? If so that could interfere with comm to the EZFlora. Perhaps double check the EZFlora address to be sure it is 1D 77 62.
GaryL Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 No surge protector or filter, just a straight multi-outlet adapter. I've double-checked the Insteon ID many times.
LeeG Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I am out of ideas. The EZFlora should respond to the one of the three command attempts.
GaryL Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 Thank you for your help, Lee. I've contacted Smartenit to try to figure out why EZFlora isn't responding. Out of warranty, of course. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
