How to assign "scene" to a button on KeypadLinc Dimmer in ISY

Another noob question I guess. Just installed the KeypadLinc Dimmer switch and need to assign a scene to a button. I have the device listed in the Adminstrative Console in my ISY, but don't see how to set a button for a scene I created within the ISY-99i software.

First, create a scene.  I recall a couple of ways to do this, but it sounds as if you have figured that part out.

Second, add any devices to the scene.  You can click-and-drag a device to the scene icon.  You can right-click a device, choosing the option to "add to scene".  Pick one.

When adding to a scene, you must choose as a "controller" or "responder".  If you don't know what the implications are with these two options, post back.

Ok, I created a scene called "movie" and added the KeypadLinc to the scene and it shows "responder to movie". Now how do I assign the buttons on the kpl to trigger the movie scene? Shouldn't the buttons on the kpl be accesible in ISY? And can I do that from the software. I can probably do it from the device but you guys told me earlier all linking shoud be done from the ISY.

Does your KPL not show up with separate nodes for each button in the device tree?

If not, you probably have a KPL that is not supported on the latest version of software for the ISY-99, as LeeG suggested.

No, I don't see separate nodes for each button, so I assume I have an old version of firmware. My ISY About dialog shows v.3.3.10 (2013-01-17-01:38:06). Is there a way to upgrade it?

MWareman has covered the solution.   The 99i was discontinued more than a year ago and has now gone past End of Life status. Nothing past 3.3.10 runs on 99i.  Several newer Insteon devices cannot be installed on a 99i including the newer KPLs.

Need to upgrade to a 994i.  MWareman posted the link to the UDI sales page with the update information at the bottom of the page.

If its an ISY-99 you have, you cannot. It does not have enough memory capacity. You need to replace it with a ISY-994. There is an upgrade program available though to reduce the cost. Look at the 'Upgrades' section here: http://www.universal-devices.com/sales/products/

Thanks, MWareman. How is it that when I bought the KPL no one told me that it wouldn't work with ISY-99i?

Anyway, what is the difference between ISY994i/IR PRO(UPGRADE), ISY994i(UPGRADE) and ISY994i/IR (UPGRADE) and which one do you recommend?

I just found the comparisons of the different 994 devices..

When / where did you get the 99i? If less than a year-ish ago, the seller should have told you that it won't work with many newer devices. UDI 'yelled' this news to the community with lots of notice.

IR = Infra-Red capabilities. If you want to be able to trigger things on ISY with an IR remote, or have ISY control things with IR, this is the unit to get.

PRO gives you more programs and devices, as well as stronger ciphers in the SSL features (SMTP connections and network module rules). You can always add PRO later if you want - its a software license change. The hardware is the same.

Thanks MWareman, I guess I have to get the ISY994i/IR, but not the Pro. I actually bought my system about 3 years ago and just got around to installing it in a new home a few months ago. Will the IR model be line-of-sight or while I be able to use it n a different room?

The ISY IR model supports RC5 IR protocol and it is line of site.  There are IR repeaters available that would allow an IR remote to send IR messages to the ISY in another room.   Smarthome carries these repeaters.  Item # 59501 is an example.

Hi guys, I upgraded to the ISY994i, so now I need to know how to get the buttons to show up in the tree. My KeypadLinc shows up in the administrative console but there are no buttons that I can see. At the buttom of the window there are several buttons, such as "Buttons Grouping" and "Buttons Toggle mode), but I don't know what to do with these

Click on the + sign to left of KeypadLinc.

If using the device defined on the 99i it should be deleted and added back as 3.3.10 was not aware of the latest KeypadLinc device type.

Thanks LeeG, that seems to have done it. I deleted the old profile for that device, added it again and now I see 8 separate addresses, I assume these are for each button.

That is correct. Define an ISY Scene and add a KeypadLinc button as a Controller. Drag the KeypadLinc button to the ISY Scene. It will display in Red below the ISY Scene name.

Thanks LeeG, now my only problem is with the 60 watt CFL light bulbs I have. When I turn a device on at full power through a LampLinc device, it lights OK. But when I set the control for less than 100% brightness it doesn't change the brightness, or starts to flicker. Is there a solution for this or just an incompatibility with Insteon and this kind of light bulb?

thanks for your reply stusviews, they are CFL's not LED's but I'm assuming these are not dimmable. I'll try to find those next

Oops, I did mean CFLs. If the bulbs are dimmible, then that will appear on the base.
