Anything I need to know about Keypadlinc?

Hey everyone, I want to buy a Keypadlinc but debating on the 6 scene or 8 scene one.  Same price but 8 obviously seems better but I do like that the 6 has those 2 large buttons which would be easier for Home/Away mode, plus I doubt I even have 8 scenes I could put on one.  Just wanted to check though, with the 6 button one for example, are there limitations like those big ON OFF default buttons can only control the load vs anything else?  Or can I shift them around so that the big top button is Away mode when lit, or Home mode when off, with one of the smaller buttons being the light/load etc?  Same with the 8 button one, I thought I read the top left one is the load so not sure if that can change.  Not a huge deal it's more the 6 scene one I wanted to find out if there's limitations.  Thanks!!!

The ON/OFF buttons do not have to physically control a load.    However, they are the only buttons that can physically control the load and they work as a pair.   Cannot have the ON button do one thing and the OFF button do something completely independent..

Same with the Main/A button on an 8 button KPL as the only button that can control a load but does not have to.

Any KPL can be placed in 6- or 8-button mode. The main difference is the buttons supplied. However, you can get button sets separately in the event you change the mode. BTW, I prefer the custom etched buttons.

Yes, you can get the large ON button to function independent of the large OFF button. Here's how:

Place the KPL in 8-button mode, but use the 6-button plate. In any scene involving the large buttons, include both button A & B for the top large button and buttons G & H for the bottom large buttons.

I've also made a 4-button KPL using all (four) large buttons.

Thanks everyone!  Stu in your photo, the Fan is that the load there?  So pressing the top large button once turns it on and again turns it off, with all the other buttons doing different things?

Do they make rockers so that the on/off button appear as one larger button like the four unit you mentioned?

That's correct. What you see is a 6-button, six device KPL.

That would be a SwitchLinc.

BTW, I have 4-button KPLs that control three loads (6-button mode) and some that control four loads (8-button mode).

One of the good things about the 6 button is that it somewhat mimics a rocker switch in function, top on bottom off. Plus you can get one as a non dimming switch. I do have a couple of 8 button kpls where I am currently using only 6buttons, does leave room for expansion. You don't just need to control scenes, you can create virtual multiway switches. There really is no wrong answer as long as you have enough buttons to fit your needs.
