How to use ISY 994i with Insteon Devices at 220V/50HZ

Dear All,

First, i am using Insteon Hub but want to switch to ISY994i due to its advanced functions.

I am looking for a way to use ISY 994i with Insteon Devices but unfortunately it seems that the PLM will not work at 220V/50hz. I've read many articles on this forum that indicates it's impossible event with Power Converter as well.

I am still wondering if anyone here could solve this problem or has the solution. Here are a few ways i am thinking of :

- If we can use ISY 994i with other devices instead of PLM to make ISY work with Insteon Devices

- Firmware Update or others Power Converter.

- Using ISY 994i with Insteon and Homeseer, how it works or can use Mobi Linc software?

- Other ways

Or event if UDI and SmartLabs have any plan/development on this issue to enable ISY 994i/PLM works at 220V/50Hz, i would be grateful to know.

Many thanks

MrBudin,

We are working on a PLM for 220v, as it is still in production / development I do not have a time frame yet.

It is currently possible to take PLM from US and HUB from 220v and 'mash' the parts together to form a 220v PLM. I personally cannot condone this activity so at this juncture I cannot tell you how it is completed.

As we are interested in developing products for all countries - which country in particular would you like a PLM produced for?

Even if you drop the 220 VAC to 120 VAC. The 50 Cycle line frequency. Will mess up the timing. As the PLM is 60 cycles only.

I am newbie here, and many thanks for your answer.

Since Insteon does not support international so much, I am still looking for a way to use other DIY's Smart Home with the following functions:

- Lighting control with dimming

- HVAC Thermostat control

- Garage Door Control

- TV/Audio Control - or Multi room music

- Curtain, Blind, motor control

- IP Camera intergration (Foscam...)

- Energy consumption display

- iOS and Android control

- Motion sensor....

Do you know any DIY's Smart Home system can do above functions, i am thinking of Homeseer but still not sure it work well at 220V/50Hz or not, and i am wondering Homeseer can do the above functions.

Please give me your advices.

UDI is currently in a holding pattern until such time as Smartlabs is ready to sell Insteon chips to them.

damn, this potentially puts the hand break on my entire Insteon home automation project ...

Using a step down converter, will that not allow the plm to at least send wireless insteon commands to switches ?

The North American PLM is designed around the 60 Hz frequency which is timed for the zero cross over. Since in the UK its 50 Hz that cross over would be missing.

As far as I can tell the RF and Powerline are tied into one chip and operate together. If the RF portion operated on its own than I could see this working via RF.

The 2413S has two Microcontrollers and two programming pad sets. One for the PLM functions and one for the RF Chip control.

I believe they both still time from the Zero Crossing.

The 915 MHz frequency we use in the US is not legal in the UK.

The two frequencies for other parts of the world. Are 869MHz or 921MHz depending on the country.

I believe the UK uses 869MHz.

So you could also not mix US and UK modules and expect the RF frequencies to be the same.

I have seen some references to a beta Insteon Power Line Modem. Built on a HUB chassis. Over on the Insteon Forums.

The HUB was able to do 120-240 volts 50/60Hz. Maybe that will be their answer someday.

Personally I would have got rid of any RS-232 signal serial port interface as soon as I could. Ethernet has become a huge standard and if SH drops the serial PLM and they appear to be able to stop UDI from making their own....then what? We all go home crying?

Other bridges could have been developed on the Ethernet cable protocol and ISY could have spread it's wings into all kinds of new toys coming out, and the rest of the world with 240v & 50Hz, bulbs without further hubs or even come with Ethernet hub bridges. I had HS2 working with a beta driver into a SH Hub in 2013 before getting an ISY for it's better logic and hardware format.

Mike, I'm based in New Zealand, and would also very much welcome a 240v 50Hz PLM. We do a LOT of integration with the M1 Gold, and not having a PLM makes the INSTEON product line a non starter for us. Do you have any timeframe on go to market with this product?

From what I have read here recently. The UDI PLM is on hold for now.

I have seen one beta user asking about a international HUB based Serial PLM they have. Over in the Insteon Forums.

Since Smarthome or Smartlabs very rarely provide advanced information. I would say anyone's guess when or even if it  will it go to production.
