How to best re-establish linked SwitchLincs?

Featured Replies

I had to replace my INSTEON PLM and just restored my ISY 994i Pro from a backup.  Pretty much everything looks great but I have a number of two-way and 3-way SwitchLincs that are not functioning as one.  They can be individually controlled but I need them relinked so they mirror switch and LED functionality/status.

What's the easiest way to get the ISY software to properly relink them?

Thanks a lot!

Right click, select Restore Device. You may also want to follow that with Write Updates to Device.

When the new PLM was connected to the ISY and the PLM and then the ISY powered up, was a File | Restore Modem (PLM) issued? There is a step by step procedure in the Wiki for replacing a PLM.

Yeah I did a Restore PLM too.   Honestly I think a few of my light switches had come unlinked independently of the PLM failure as manually turning the lights/on off often didn't operate them in unison.   I tried stusview's technique and it rewrote the switches I tested but didn't link them.   For example I have a Basement Top of Stairs and a Basement Bottom of Stairs SwitchLinc pair.   When I turn the Top of Stairs switch on using the ISY console, its LED bar goes up but doesn't turn on.   If I do the same thing to the Bottom of Stairs Switch, both bars go up and the Lights properly go on or go off.  I can go and operate the Top of Stairs switch and can manually get those lights to go on.

I only have 1 two-way and 1 three-way set of switches I need to fix, can I just take care of those small issues and relink them from the ISY console?

Thanks,

  Rick

A quick test before attempting diagnostics. Click on the scene and click On. What is the result, both displayed and at the actual devices?

What is the result of a scene test? (Right click, Diagnostics)

I double-checked the wiki and realized I did the Restore PLM before Restore ISY Backup.  I went and did Restore PLM and that fixed the 2 scenes I was having an issue with.

I did find another 2-way pair where one switch is not operating the lights and the other one does.   I did a diagnostics on that scene and see one switch succeeds (the one that works manually) but the other SwitchLinc plus a KeyPadLinc (8-way) button and a RemoteLinc2 button in that scene get a Failed error.  When I do a manual On from the ISY console for that scene the KeypadLinc button and the 2 SwitchLincs show they turn On/Off.

That reminded me since its been quite a while, does adding devices into a Scene link them together?  If so should I remove and add devices into the scene to fix them up?

Thanks!

Yes, that is correct. If the devices are already in the scene you can certainly remove them and try again.

This will restore any associations (scenes) that were supposed to be listed in the new PLM but we're not written when you replaced it.
