k5map Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Benoit, First of all, really like what you've done with HAD. UI is much easier for the non-computer members of my family. I have a quick question about new releases of HAD. Currently I do not purchased the Network Module. Given the lack of that module, will I have access to versions of HAD when there are new releases of ISY firmware or is there a way to update my ISY with new versions of HAD?
bmercier Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Hello k5, It depends. There is an HAD version bundled with the firmware, which is not-customizable, and another one which you can customize. The firmware version comes along with each firmware releases. So if you are referring to this version, you don't have anything to do to get new versions, other than upgrade your firmware. To access this version, just start UDAjax (the standard web interface), go to the settings page, and select HAD as the default UI. Once in HAD, you can switch back. If you are referring to the customizable version, you need a place to host it. It can be the network module, or your own web server. This one needs to be upgraded manually. But in both cases, it's been a while since I released a new versions. Lately I have been working on a completely new version of HAD, which I may sell to UDI, or release at large for a fee. I still have a lot of work to put on it. Benoit.
k5map Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 Thanks for the clarification... though I'm an IT professional, I have to resist the temptation to use the custom version of HAD (time limitations). I will learn to be patient and wait for any HAD update with new ISY firmware updates. I hope UDI sees the value of HAD and continues to include the new version with ISY (fingers crossed)

Ideally I would like to see the HAD interface hosted on the ISY only. I have enough gear in the home and really do not want to add in another energy consuming device in my network.

What if you could access it from anywhere, without having to mess with a VPN to start or open ports with https? The idea would be to use a portal where each ISY's have a persistent connection to it. Authentication would be done with a portal user ID and password, with the possibility of having several ISY's and several user profiles for the family. Benoit

Benoit Hello Benoit, I might be the wrong person to ask about cloud hosted services. As this is what I have been supporting for more than 15 years. I guess I am rather jaded in the fact I have seen too many negatives when speaking about the cloud. As you're keenly aware the majority of ISY users prefer local command and control of their systems. When a company no matter how big / small decides to fold a service or change the TOS this impacts the end user. Some have tried to use tiered services as a method of pushing the cloud. I see a benefit in some use cases as well as from a business revenue perspective. But must affirm basic native control should always be available and local. The current ISY firmware offers a glimpse of the power that your HAD contributions has to offer. I believe you understand this quite well so am not too worried about how you would decide to offer features. But would add I would not be in favor of allowing any 3rd party service have direct control of my homes systems. I do however like the ability you listed about user profiles. This is one key area I along with others have been asking about for ages. Offering a VPN / no port forwarding would certainly cater to other members for sure. What I am after is having the ability to create custom widgets from within HAD without any programming skills. If this ability can only be made available via the cloud then I might consider it. I always love supporting a great Canadian company in their endeavors. So put me on the list if this is something coming down the pipe! ️ Ideals are peaceful - History is violent

Its clear things are moving that way, and therefore its potential a path to integration to the thundering herd of new generation of HA products. Solve it cloud to cloud, mashups, etc, rather than each solution trying to get jammed into every controller. Paul
