Blackbird Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I have an isy and a insteon hd camera but cant find a reliable app to view it on my phone. I thought maybe I need to by the hub and only connect my camera to it and nothing else. Would this affect the isy? Is there a better solution? Thanks

In the interim if shelling out $39.99 for the little HUB is not too much this might be a stop gap method. Nothing wrong with going that route for remote access and viewing. Since this is a IP camera I am unsure why you don't simply port forward the camera so you can access the feed? Does the camera not have mini hosted server inside? Edited February 14, 2015 by Teken

You can try on your internal network before adding a port forward for outside your network. I have the old version and they had dynamic dns configuration in them as well, but I didn't use it since I have a different way. It seems like a lot to setup port forwarding and dynamic dns, but it's not hard and there are lots of good post ls about it on here, and maybe a wiki article. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

MikeD Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Pick a port up in the Dynamic Port Range of 49152 to 65535 and use that port on the external side of your router. The camera uses HTTP port 88. Once your router is configured you would connect to your camera using the external IP:port and your router will point it to the correct IP:port you configured. Say you use port 61500 for the external port, once configured it would look like this. http://extIPaddress:61500> Router > http://intIPaddress:88 ~Mike

Is it safe or secure to port forward?Yes, to access the camera from outside your network. You can test tinycam without port forwarding using the ip address inside your lan. MWareman Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 The foscams (and smarthome variants) don't do SSL, to if you port forward you are sending your password across the internet without encryption. Personally, I setup an SSL reverse proxy behind a wildcard certificate (with SNI enabled) to securely access my cameras.

Thanks Yes, you can use a Hub on the same network as the ISY. If you use the Hub only for the camera, then it will not affect the ISY. But, if all you need is an iPhone app to view the camera, then you have many choices. Some free apps have been mentioned and there are other apps that are a few dollars.

MWareman Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I use Tinycam monitor on Android with good results (9 Foscams here). Just be aware of the lack of security if you port forward the camera for remote access, unless you invest in some other solution for secure remote access.

MWareman Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I use a reverse SSL proxy based on Apache running on a Linux system. Its 'free', but there is a fairly steep learning curve and you need a running (Linux, probably) system. Commercial solutions like Blue Iris may be able to help, but also need a running (Windows, in this case) system. Alternatively, hardware like Swann NVRs can receive the can data on your LAN and make it available to your mobile device with encryption. Cameras with SSL built into them can also be used securely without needing an external system to provide the security, but they tend to be much more expensive than the Foscams and clones.
3gdigital Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I believe you can use the camera option on the ISY web page and access that through an ssl connection. I am still configuring my ISY so I have not tried it yet, but it works from inside on the local lan. I generally run all my cameras through zoneminder, which provides an ssl connection.
