Insteon Access Point #2443 LED Light not coming on

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have three SmartLabs Access Points plugged in to my home automation. I also have a ISY994ir as the controller. I have had these Access Points for about 4 years and after unplugging one of them and plugged it back in the LED light no longer comes on. I also pushed the reset button and held it down and nothing is happening. I am wondering if that means it needs to be replaced? This particular Access Point was on the 2nd floor of our house and even without this everything seems to be working.

Can someone advise me if I need to purchase a new one or is there something I need to do to activate it again.

Thanks so much,

Jim

Is it the older revision 1 model, with a White LED or revision 2 with a Red/Green LED?

If it is four years old. It may have failed.

They don't make 2443 Access Points any more. The 2992-222 Range Extender is the replacement.

I don't believe the set button on the side is also a reset button.

You can try unplugging it. Wait ten seconds. Hold the set button and plug it in. Keep holding the button for at least ten seconds before releasing it.

I would also perform a two way 4 tap beacon test. This will show you if the unit is still operational. If it doesn't respond at all more than likely the capacitors need replacement which in this product is very rare since production.

If it is a V1.? It is built on the old power transformer base board. Also in the 2412S PLM and 2442 SignalLinc RF.

If it is a V2.? it is on the newer switching power base board also used in the 2413S PLMs with known capacitor issues.

If the capacitors in question. Are the problem. They would be different between models.

I have a V1.0 Access Point get flaky. With the same module sending in a beacon test. The flaky Access Point would sometimes indicate receiving OK on same phase and other times receiving OK on the opposite phase.

I have the version 2.4 of the 2443 Access Point that I just see that is no longer being sold. I have a dual band Lamp Linc that is suppose to serve as an Access Point. I placed that where my old 2443 Access Point use to be and am having no problems communicating. Unless someone thinks I should do something else I will just use the LampLinc as an access point as a replacement.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

Jim,

Perform the 4 tap (beacon) test both ways and see if it replies.

Hi Teken,

Thanks for your help. I am not sure what a 4 tap (beacon) test is.

Thanks,

Hello Jim,

Here is the manual which explains the process and what to look for: http://cache-m2.smarthome.com/manuals/2992-222qs.pdfCompleting this critical step ensures you have confirmed proper coupling / bridging of your Insteon network.

I only ask you to perform this test because I am curious to see if initiating the test results in a confirmation its working or not.

V2.4. So it is on the newer switching power supply main board. That had questionable caps. Just like the V1.? 2413S PLM.

IMHO. No LED at all. Smells like a capacitor problem.

One of these days. I may get a fairly inexpensive. RF spectrum analyzer I am looking at.  Then look at the various Dual band Devices outputs.
