Apple Event and the INSTEON Hub Pro

I have an ISY994i running Mobilinc and have been pleased except for the interface on Mobilinc that I find displeasing and utilitarian. Still it works. And the ISY99i's powerful logic programming is important to me.

But now after viewing the Apple Event featuring the Apple Watch and HomeKit I want Siri control of everything and my garage door camera on that watch (or iPhone)! Imagine being in bed and saying "Hey Siri, bedtime".

Furthermore, first time I've looked at the Insteon Hub software, has a more pleasing look.

Anyone else slobbering over this? We'll see if the logic programming is available, that might be a deal-breaker if not, I depend on it for security, complex lighting programs, temperature monitoring, etc. Also need capability to have more than one hub for two residences.

Well if history is any indicator the HUB Pro will fall well short of what most people would consider basic features.

After releasing five generation of controllers they have not shown any real ability to listen to the customer in this important area.

Personally, I look at apple on this particular case. This is purely speculation but Apple just wants things to work. When I look at other controllers that control multiple things, logic based events normally run like garbage. (hard to deal with once you see how quickly and well ISY works). With that said, for Apple to set things up (based off their history) logic based programming would go against what they stand for. That would give users to much control and ability to go wrong. I just dont see apple giving that much control.

True on many points!

Apple has never been a fan of giving what the people want. Its more of what they believe people should have. They have over the years waited for years before offering comparable features when you look at Android. Then, there is the most famous *** hattery you could imagine.

That is stealing the idea's of others who have created iOS Apps to fill that need and void. How a company who touts to champion 3rd party Dev's at every turn. Only to take away their bread and butter is truly astounding to say the least.

I often laugh when I see people chirping away about how the Chinese steal from other companies etc. Yet at every turn this is done on a global scale on a daily basis. One only has to look at all of the court filings for patents from every industry in the world from small to large.

Apple has over the years stolen, used, and abused more ideas from others than any single business in the last 8 years! One of the most famous is the theft of the clock design. This clock design was used and in production from another well known company for eons.

Yet, Apple true to form decided they were so big no one would challenge them on this!

They were wrong and that was quickly resolved by handing over some hush money. Now, this company is stealing A123 battery engineers, wow.

In the big picture despite my personal feeling on Apple as a company. They truly have the clout, finances, and know how to make things happen. When I reflect on Googles epic failure to make their payment system work and get adopted for years. Only to be out classed and pushed into the dirt by Apple in mere months with Apple Pay.

What does this tell us all about Apple Home Kit??

The sad fact is this one single company will unify a HA Industry that is sorely needing a kick in the *** and basic and common standards even if its a Crapple one!

I do look forward to seeing what Smartlabs has to offer in this space. But, as stated previously history has proven the people making the decisions have no clue what it takes to make it right.

I am looking forward to what they have to offer. Insteon did a great job on their new Apple Watch app, but they really missed the boat by leaving out Siri integration. Once they add this it will be the way to go. Much better than Mobilinc offering a 9 dollar app for 50 bucks

I watched the video early this morning and have to say if it all operates as advertised it's a very slick App.

I too was a little surprised no Siri support but gather it's pending the HUB Pro as the HUB II is not Apple Home Kit enabled or certified.

Mobilinc does need a face lift for the iPhone for sure.

Good point about the hub. I really hope that Insteon doesn't disappoint us all with the Hub Pro. I'm kind of excited about it coming out, but kind of nervous about it coming out at the same time...

As stated I am only mildly optimistic because five generations of controllers have been released from Smartlabs.

History has proven its easier for them to kick out a new box then to refine and upgrade what is out there in the wild.

This has left the end user with a half baked product that should have never been released into the market.

The biggest problem with these App based controllers is the huge disparity of common features when you compare to iOS, android, windows.

Keep in mind it has been stated in writing many features and elements will NOT be available when the HUB Pro is launched.

I do appreciate their honesty and calling that out because they haven't been very up front about these things in the past.

It has only taken them two freaking years to provide support for some of their own products in the existing HUB v2, HUB II!

The current android app still can not control the two outlets on the latest dual band relay outlet! Yet the iOS app has since launch of the product?

Also since this is a cloud based controller they can kill off any feature they want without notice or consent as they did with text messaging.

From reading a few threads in the SH forum forcing push notification has really pissed off quite a few existing customers!

A winning product in my mind is if they finally include conditional logic, diagnostics like in HL2 software, and local access to all basic / advanced features without the reliance of the cloud.

But that will never happen . . .
