Techman Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Any idea why the Range Extender (2992-222 R3.7) has an Insteon ID address?
Xathros Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I suspect it is required component of Insteon communications much like the MAC address of any ethernet capable device. My Access Points have ID's too. Neither the Access Points or Range Extenders are linkable devices however. -Xathros

It's too bad they don't show up in the ISY so we could note their locations.
Brian H Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 You may also find the FCC ID number on it is for a 2457D2 LampLinc. Mine is a 2457D2 Lamplinc board with the dimmer components and output AC connector removed. Maybe different on the newest hardware presently being sold.

Brian H Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I am not surprised it can't be added. I would suspect it has its own firmware to make it act like a signal repeater and not a lamp module.

If they can be added to the Hub then why not to the ISY? Thank you for contacting Smarthome. The range extenders have Insteon addresses so that you may add them to your Insteon Hub and monitor it from your mobile device.
Brian H Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 (edited) It is not a controller or responder. So what can be monitored? Its not On Off or anything in between. I did try and add mine. Using both the Auto Discover and Manual Linking method. Event Viewer Level 3 did show some communications between PLM and the Range Extender. Maybe Smarthome is pinging it with a message and just seeing if it responds. Event Viewer Level 3 communications with a Range Extender trying to add it. Maybe Smarthome is pinging it with a message and just seeing if it responds. If that is the case, it would be nice to see the same capability in the ISY. I have had an access point lock up once or twice. Would be nice to check them with the 3am query or other program and fire off a notification if they fail to respond. Otherwise there isn't much value to adding them to the device tree. -Xathros
Brian H Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I have had two Hardware 2.5 Access Points with problems. Older hardware 1.? ones are on a different base board. One just locked up and needed a power cycle. The other one was dead. Power supply was around four volts on the unregulated 12 volts. Normally closer to 20 volts. They are built on the same base 2413X PCB as the 2413S. Same capacitors issues as the hardware version 1.? 2413S PLM's. Did the capacitor change just like in my PLM and now both have been running again for over a month.
