Hi everyone,

  Just wondering if anyone knows of a small/compact, simple switch (low voltage) that I could use for directly jumpering R and W to turn the furnace on?  I programmed a solution that reads, remembers the current Nest set temperature, then turns on the furnace through the Nest upstairs (by turning up the thermostat), closes the upstairs vents, heats the downstairs (until the old set temperature is reached as per z-wave sensor downstairs), then restores the previous set temperature to turn off the Nest.  I figure directly controlling R and W jumpering would be WAY easier and eliminate most of my code.

 

  Any suggestions?

Insteon IOLinc can do this...

Ah...very good!  I'm still new to this world as you can all probably tell.    Is there a "battery powered" version?  I don't have an AC line conveniently nearby and I don't really want to run longer wires into the furnace.

No battery powered I/O Linc.   All battery powered Insteon devices sleep to save battery life so none can be used to turn On/Off the furnace.  Not familiar with ZWave devices as to whether they sleep.

You could likely install the I/O link on the thermostat side of the connection if you have an outlet handy there.  May not look as pretty though.

Look here, bet they all require AC power though...
