Insteon Homekit Hub is now available! implications for ISY users?

Your going to have to decide who is going to be the master in your home. Having two controllers with direct links to one another is a recipe for disaster waiting to happen.

Several clients asked me how I would do it in their homes.

I told them they would need to decide what aspects they want Siri to control and trade off any conditional logic the ISY may have in place. The easiest route I have pondered is enrolling all the Insteon devices into the HUB Pro and using the iOS devices to control various devices and see how they like it.

Keeping in mind the ISY may very well not be able to see or tell a switch was turned on/off from the HUB Pro. In my mind this is not ideal when a large install is in place. For someone who has a small and modest install I guess you could take a roll of the dice and see if it works for you and others.

I personally don't think its something a person should take lightly.

I am going to wait for a bit and see what Wes/InsteonNut has up his sleeve (if anything). If Mobilinc is improved and has Siri integration then not sure what else the HomeKit SmartHub brings to the table that the ISY doesnt already do. I still see hope with the ISY and Mobilinc.

Interesting times ahead. I would love to see The Internet of Things (IoT) become the main protocol and everyone else interact with them, but we all know thats not going to happen. Each company (Apple, Google, Smarthome) wants you locked into their system, but who knows Im not a dev so it maybe possible down the road.

I put this out there and if the future holds any possible inclusion of Apple Home Kit perhaps this company can assist UDI in speeding up the process: https://www.elgato.com/en/eve/eve-core
